Google in hot water over "Michelle Obama" image search results

Google appear to be in trouble over This, but a spokesman says Google have no control over what a search engine turns up.

    http://searchengineland.com/offensive-michelle-obama-image-returns-google-buys-ad-30381

    from article
“Sometimes Google search results from the Internet can include disturbing content, even from innocuous queries. We assure you that the views expressed by such sites are not in any way endorsed by Google.

Search engines are a reflection of the content and information that is available on the Internet. A site’s ranking in Google’s search results relies heavily on computer algorithms using thousands of factors to calculate a page’s relevance to a given query.

The beliefs and preferences of those who work at Google, as well as the opinions of the general public, do not determine or impact our search results.”

I'd hate to be the person in Google left to deal with this one :pac:

Imagine Obama rolling up in the Chevvy in Moyross for a visit. I'd pay good money to see that.

I just did the search there via the link (safe search off) and I can't see anything offensive. Have the sites with the images been taken down or something?

It has racist undertones. Linking to it from here would be close to endorsing it.

Just click on the link in the OP's post and switch to 'Moderate' Search .. it's the first photo.

I wouldn't mind being in hot water giving Google a Michelle obama.

No wait, I've clearly messed that up.

You had the same problems of 'Google-Bombing' when Bush was in office.

Computers were set to run programs which repeatedly hit certain links, to rank them higher in Google's system. Of course, these links were not complimentary to the subject.

    NTM

It was called Spitting Image, not Spitting Images.

Also Spitting Image didn't run racist caricatures of prominent figures.

But then again this is Ireland we're in so I suppose the "Ha! Ha! Black people are monkeys" attitude is tolerated here is it? F*cking moronic assh*les that inhabit this country make me want to puke up a lung sometimes.

That sort of ignorant sh*te is always followed by "Sure I'm only having a laugh! Lighten up" Racist idiots.

Insulting and Racist aren't the same thing.

Maybe you should go and purchase a dictionary. You might have heard of them. They're big books with lots of words in bold followed by more words that teach you what the words in bold mean.

There's a little project for you.... go find yourself a dictionary. Good lad.

Racism and an insulting comment are the same thing to you?

    Really?

So if my black girlfriend was called a 'f*cking n*gger' on the street and I was called a 'baldy f*cker' you would think those two insults were exactly the same and there's no difference between them?

Really? That's what you'd honestly think?

This sort of tolerance for casual racism is the sort of sh*te I'm going on about. You don't see a difference therefore you'd happily engage in racism and say 'stop your whinging and get on with life' if someone complains. But throw in a smiley face cause that makes it ok?

    That's pathetic. It really is.

Its no way the same thing for a million different reasons. And that image is disgusting and I don't see how Michelle Obama could be classed as whining about it. That image is an example of the pure hatred some people have for Africans, do you think someone just did it because she was in the public eye. They did it because she is in the public eye and black.

Throw that at someone who wasn't best friends with a black girl all her life and didn't defend her from comments such a black slut by Irish guys before political correctness came about ,

I won't ignore racism and let people carry on with it if I can do something about it. Sorry. Not going to happen.

I realise that you can't do something about everything or even half the things wrong that you see but I won't abide racist morons, especially the casually bigotry that is becoming more and more prevalent in Ireland.

Da te de da :D theme music

It only from what i have seen comes out when people are annoyed(They are not judging by skin colour even if they say Black whatever(Even if i don't agree with it) People will get angry when not respected back. And even stil will not feel animosity towards all Black people. The small few that are truly racist in Ireland is at a minimum compared to eastern European countries and continents.
I heard a black guy shout at a man on street, you racist white trash, because he asked him to move his car politely from the path outside his house. And another black guy nearly running over a 6 year old girl as he reversed on a path outside a school. And when the mother approached him he spat in her face you white slut.

Again, there's a huge difference between racism and general insults. Racism goes beyond the individual and has wider effects.

Strange, one of the most popular images doing the rounds over the last few years was a montage of George W Bush being compard directly to a monkey but that was never flagged as racist or anything more than having a laugh. Why should the incumbent president and his First Lady not have the right to the same treatment? (granted, this does assume that the photo captures the subject in a humorous pose comparable to that of a simian, which this particular image clearly fails to do).

It's like referring to a bouncer as an ape because of his physique and implied lesser intelligence - fine unless he's black, at which point the original point is obscured because of a ridiculous perceived notion that his skin colour alone makes him an ape. He should be allowed be called an ape like anyone else.

They can't remove the photo - that is true. However, they can drop the website from Google like a hot potato if they wished.

I listed my website in a business 'link directory' last year and as soon as it was next crawled by Google, my website became invisible. Nowhere, not just a worse ranking - but actually totally unfindable.

They have complete control over which websites are crawled and which aren't. Can't understand Google not doing to this site, what they did to mine.

If he's comparable to an ape and it's not being used in a racist context then that's fine.

However if anyone can point out how Michelle Obama looks like an ape they win a bright shiny penny.

There are historical racist connotations of black people as apes. Think of John Barnes having bananas thrown at him while playing. Totally different IMO.

    BTW, Michelle Obama, I would.

What has this got to do with anyhing, such a lame arguement, "oh black people can be racist too". When people use that arguement it kind of implies that person is trying to justify their own prejudices.

Meaning when people are attacked with such comments making a comment back towards said person with you black whatever a comment made under anger towards that one person. And not to a whole race ;)

My prejudice is towards any black white Asian whatever green alien who is rude.If i said about the girl who hit me in face white trash, that is towards her,if i say to black person comment on said indiviuals skin with insult is towards that one person due to anger,That is not racist that is angry comment.
Same as kid i know who a black girl called him white trash,And he responded in anger black b****.He got expelled she however still is in school:rolleyes:

Thats because it wasn't racist, it didn't have racial connotations, it was funny because George Bush looked liked a monkey and was thick, whereas the thing with Obama relates to a whole race of people based off an offensive stereotype.
