What is After hours raison d'etre?

Well folks we are currently knocking around a new charter. As such we're looking to come up with a way of describing just what After Hours remit is. What do you think After Hours is for?
    How would you synopsise it?
Please don't take the piss too much and if you're just here to take a swipe at after hours then kindly GTFO.
    All help appreciated.

You should make 4chan memes and horribly over used catchphrases an offence.

"Please don't take the piss too much and if you're just here to take a swipe at after hours then kindly GTFO."

    Or

After Hours is the light-hearted "General" forum on boards. Discussion of most topics is acceptable here, but please stick to the charter.

It's a bit disrespectful to be using French there Doc, you know.. after what they've done

After Hours is a general forum. The forum for sensible discussion on topics that don't fit anywhere else, with a good few laughs here and there.

In summary, better than the other forums.

Oh yeah. The usage of the phrases "bleeding heart, pinko, leftie, liberal" etc whenever anyone disagrees with someone. That's another good one to get rid of.
    Hmmm

After hours consists of the type of chat you have with your mates after a few pints at a lock in. You might disagree and argue your side, but if you get rowdy, the barmans gonna kick you out, so keep it civil. Typical subjects are anything thats in the days news, a funny story you heard, and terrible jokes and puns. Sometimes the debate can turn serious, but remember, the barmans watching, and you're gonna wanna come back, so don't get so loud that the neighbours kick up **** and ye're all barred.

"AH is what it's members make it"

That might sound vague and hippy-like, but it's true.

If people want to talk about something, they will

even if it fits in another forum, AH is not about other forums

It's about those posting in it

    No more downer threads

e.g 'Dog set on Fire', 'Puppy stamped to death by thugs', 'Man executed for raping kids' (cant remember original thread titles)

They always have the same angry responses....not much to make fun of

Perfect. Clearly I hijacked his account. When he regained control he edited 23 paragraphs out of my effort.

Please don't let killjoys shoehorn the forum into humanities-for-slow-learners where some topics have to treated with 'seriousness and respect', but, conversely, do continue to allow this kind of topic to blossom of its own accord.

I'm at pains to not censor anybody. The rules of the new charter will be largely the same as the current construct and we will continue to have feedback threads from time to time to make sure things are going well. Right now things are going well here IMO.

A thread soup where the cream rises to top, the junk goes to the bottom (without being moved or locked as much) and is moderated as little as possible.

I'm not a big fan of soup. Any chance you could make a similar analogy except using chicken burgers?

it should be part of the charter that if a thread is started here that the OP must not take offense when they get a few smart ass responses.

raison d'etre of AH is to have discussions of all topics without taking the particular topic seriously.

Definitely. I've even noticed an improvement of some sort over the past few days.. I don't know what it is, AH just seems more.. comfortable? I don't know.

I've probably just been less miserable than usual :pac: But yeah, AH is good at the moment - good mods, good posters. (<-- Ooh, that could be a line for you :P)

It's a bit totalitarian but we could just assign profile badges to identify us politically. Pinko commie stars (with a vagina variant), Wehrmacht badges and the like.

I would disagree, there is room for serious threads in AH and there have been plently of them. If someone wants a serious discussion let them at it. There are a million and one other things to take the piss out of, if thats what you what to do.

I think After Hours is about threads like this, where the true AH comes to life, smart arse replies with real life stories :)
Also the Cork one, that was the right mixture of humour and seriousness.

Suffice to say, I would like AH to be a place of humorous discussion. "News" has no such place in this perfect world

But current affairs is probably the number one catalyst for AH threads.

Not for discussing things that in other areas of boards would require an Access Request.

The videos or pictures of the event happening may infact be rather funny, but applying some vapid unfunny catchphrase to that event has about the same level of humor and wit in it as a Chuck Norris joke. It actually takes from the humor of the thing it's being said about.
