Which pram?

    HI,

    Hope everyone is well today.

Just looking for some advice. Have started looking at prams systems and soooo many to chose from I getting pretty confused. Quite taken with the Silver Cross 3D Pram System but would prefer a straight across handlbar rather than the two handle grip that it has, also would like a lighter colour alto the dark prob is more practical??

Has anyone bought this or another pram?

We have bought the Quinny Buzz 4 travel system, Haven't had the baby to road test it yet but have been playing with it and so far seems very user friendly!

It comes in so many colours that you'd be sure to find one you like.

I think it cost us a little over 700 sterling, but that included the car seat and isofix base and should be the only pram/buggy we need until the child is walking!

We got the quinny as well, and now have the baby to road test it. So far, no complaints, I find it great.

+1 for the quinny buzz, very simple to use and if you have a car the car seats are the best ones imo

    HI,

Thanks a mil for all your replies...will get googling on the Quinny, it looks great!

I would definitely recommend having a look at the Icandy Peach. Great pram and takes a maxi cosi carseat on the frame so you can still have the best carseat without having to buy the Quinny. Advantages would definitely be the carrycot which folds flat for storage and is lighter than the Dreami carrycot. I would definitely advise against buying from an English website at the end of the day if it breaks you have to pay to get it send for repair and they are not required to supply you with a replacement while you wait.

Haha, that's what I said! Three buggies later and I still haven't found my preference!! A light stroller is great for bunging in and out of the car!

I don't like the quinnys for many many reasons.
The icandys are lovely but expensive.
I have a maxi cosi mura 4 and love it,baby girl is 10 nearly 11 months old and it is the best hting we ever bought.
I also love my baba sling, the maxi cosi is brilliant but a bit heavy.

a cheap and cheerful one. everyone gets sick of the big prams and gets a nice light umbrella buggy as soon as baby is old enough (around 6 months). a lot of people i know waste a lot of money this way.

im sick of telling people this and they dont listen, then do exactly this.

    just my experiences :)

I wouldn't call getting a good pram wasting money, epsecially for when the baby is really young.

    Hi All,
Have a super little guy who is 23 months old, he will be having a little brother late January / early Feb..
We have the Quinny from number one, but need to buy a pram that will do them both from Feb onwards.
Don't want a side by side, so a front and back type, that folds easily (an preferably be brought on planes !)....
    What recommendations please ?????
I'm away a few nights a week, and herself, although she has a car, likes to walk to toddler groups/ town etc, which is about a 15 min walk each day.

Would like to buy it soon, but will wait for Jan sales (if they apply to pram's ??)...

    Any help much appreciated !!:)

i didnt say get a bad or dangerous pram. i said cheap and cheerful.

there are plenty of good prams that dont cost a fortune for example when i was expecting my youngest i got his pram half price because it was "last seasons colours"

I'd definitely recommend a Phil & Teds sport. The advantage would definitely be that you can easily switch between a single or double buggy with the double kit. your getting 2 buggies for the price of 1 although some people dont like the look of them it will definitely last you longer than any other double on the market as it will return to a single buggy when the toddler grows out of it. Eurobaby tend to do some good offers on them even out of sale time when your getting a few pieces together. Most Nursery shop will have sales in January anyway.

That is true you can get some nice prams for a discount if they are last seasons colours or the colours will soon be changing. Most manufactorers will change their colours yearly so theres always bargins to be had.

    Hey,

My son has the Mothercare MyChoice, it is costly enough but it does from birth until 3 and a half, not really compact but very comfy and safe. It can also take the MaxiCosi infant car seat!

Its a nice pram I have to say seen a few around. Personally I still prefer the likes of the quinny Buzz or a silvercross 3D which would be quite a resonable price. The 3D is reasonable obviously not the Quinny although there are some good bargains out there at the moment.

The MyChoice is actually made by Quinny! It is big and comfortable, but it is bulky to say the least. Yes there are some amazing deals around, I am getting my fella his Maclaren to go in and out of Dublin City because they are falling in price the whole time!

The Neo Nato Multisport or Synchro sport are definitely also worth having a look at. As far as I know they come as a complete set carseat changing bag & the rest. From what I can see they are quite easy to use along with being good value too. Colours are also nice!:D

Neo Nato Zeta is also one to look at. Comes with Carrycot, car seat, rain cover, changing bag and pushchair. Had one for a while. Pushchair a bit bulky though, way bulkier than a McLaren pushchair.

I didn't really like the mychoice,
I also didn't realise maxi cosi made it.

The petit zia system is worth looking at.

Yeh the my choice wouldnt be a favourite of mine. Liked the link the info is very interesting. Didnt think the safety 1st would do so well with buggy overloading. Just goes to show the most expensive are not always the best thats why I like the Nurse prams they dont cost that much but are nice and sturdy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 506 ✭✭✭gowayouttadat

We didn't bother getting a travel system because to be honest I think they're a bit mad price wise especially when you're only going to use the pram part for a small while.
We bought the maxi cosi car seat and base for ds and then got the out and about nipper buggy. I adore the buggy. It's so light and I can't wait to get to use it next summer when we're by the beach.
The only pain is that the car seat doesn't attach but it's not a huge problem with DS as he'd sleep anywhere.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 99 ✭✭themysteriouson

Thats true some people arent into prams. The phil & Teds is a good walking buggy that can take the maxi cosi carseat aswell. You dont need a pram bit because they do a little cocoon. Advantage would be keep it and add on an extra seat for baby number two! At a later date of course. saves money especially in this recessionary time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,960 ✭✭✭Moomoo1

I was wondering, where can you get just a simple traditional pram (like they had them when we were young) where the baby lies flat facing you? Preferably one that's relatively cheap and folds up too. Or is that impossible?

Most things in stores seem to be those swanky combination thingys, quite heavy and very expensive (not to mention the fact many of them either don't become properly flat in the 'pram' phase, or don't become a proper seat in the 'buggy' phase), but it seems more straightforward (and cheaper) to get a pram and then just get a basic buggy.

Have a look at silver cross prams.
They were the type most of us were in as kids and have smaller modern buggies and prams these days and are still a great brand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,960 ✭✭✭Moomoo1

thanks. Silver Cross do seem mighty expensive though...

I work in the nursery/pram industry. (Unlike themysteriousson, I'm not afraid to say it!)
To be honest, get the pram that suits your lifestyle.
If you live in the city and have to use public transport get a compact lightweight easyfold buggy, maybe a maclaren techno xt or techno xlr.
If you use your car a lot make sure the buggy you buy fits your boot along with everything else you need.
If you plan to walk a lot get a sturdy air filled tyre model, like a mura/phil&ted/quinny
regardless of whether you live in the country or the city. The bigger the wheel the easier it is for you to push and it's more comfortable for your baby rather than being shook around.
Bad footpaths in new estates are boneshakers just as much as country roads.
It's not the end of the world if your car seat doesn't fit onto your pram/pushchair. Babies are only meant to be in the rearward facing infant carriers for max 2 hrs at a time.
If you are getting an infant carrier that sits on your pram, go the whole hog and buy a base, belt in or isofix if your car has the fittings. It's one less thing to worry about and takes the risk out of installing the car seat incorrectly.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you Borderline-plain English at last! Most of the baby sites have my head wrecked and many are geared at city living and/or shopping.

I'm impressed with the MaxiCosi Mura 3 and the MyChoice, but am planning on having another babs within 2 years so Phil&Teds seem to be the best bet without buying a twin one.....agh......

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 18,986 Mod ✭✭✭✭Moonbeam

I have the mura4 and love it:)

I am not really a fan of the phil and teds, there is a lovely icandy that can do double and single too,it is expensive though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,346 ✭✭✭borderlinemeath

I personally love the phil&teds, although I do like the dash and the sport versions over the vibe.

Its a very sturdy buggy and the fact that it takes up to 2 toddlers to a combined weight of 44kg is brilliant. It's easy to fold and very easy to push (which can't be said for most twins/tandems)
The weight is only around 10kg for the buggy, which compared to most twin buggys is very light (most twin buggies weigh in the region of 14/15kg)
All the fabrics are replaceable so if you're just starting out it will last for years.
It can be used with the maxi cosi infant carrier and also has lots of other little quirky things like the "lazy ted", a frame that you can turn your double kit seat into a bouncer.

A lot of people dont like the fact that one child is "below" the other, but this way there is good sideward vision, also the centre of gravity allows ease of movement for the parent pushing it.

The whole ethos of phil&ted is about making life easier for the parent on the move, everything is designed firstly with the parent in mind and then adapted to make the childs journey safe and comfortable.

There are a few brands you may like to consider :
Silvercross Sleepover Deluxe, Babystyle Lux, Neo Nato Multisport / Synchro sport, Icandy cherry. They all have the pram part but unfortunately will also come with the seat unit aswell. Not many brands just sell the pram and frame on their own without the stroller part. Starting price would be neonato for value and the most expensive would be Silvercross. Its worth your while having a look at a few models in the nursery stores to see if anything suits you.

well, we went for the Out n About Nipper 360 in the end, bought it in the UK (180, plus 6 pounds for the pump). Felt we couldn't really afford the whole shabang with a carrycot and the like. However, the Nipper combines lightness with an ability to go on bumpy roads, and it got rave reviews everywhere.

The child will be facing away, but I guess you can't have everything...

Has anyone here bought a Britax Vigour 3+? I bought this after Christmas for my baby who is due in April. Obviously, I am very happy with it but haven't taken it for a test drive yet :). I'd love to hear anyone's stories, good or bad, about their experiences.

This is the travel system I bought (We bought the Mars Red fabric option):

I really love it as it has everything I need and so i'm not going to change it at this stage ;-). However, it is always nice to hear about other people's experiences with a product.

Hi all I have the iCandy cherry and it is so light and easy to use!
you get the lie flat pram part the car seat and the stroller seat for when the baby gets older so it does you until baby is out of buggy..
I am now expecting another and I bought the graco tandeum duo it is also very light and it has two proper sized seat one in front of the other which both recline and folds easily

sorry for hijacking the thread but my partner and i are due our first in September :D:D and we have been looking around at buggies/travel systems, so we have chosen either the Silvercross 3d or Hauck Condour. Any one have any advice or reviews of either?

I got the Mamas & Papas Pliko travel system for my little lady & used that for the first month.
Its great because it can be turned 4 different ways; lie flat pram for baby, click the car seat onto top either facing toward or away from you and as a stroller when baby is older.
Its a really sturdy pram too& easy to maneuver.

The only problems I had with it (well that my daughter had!) was that she hates lying flat when out for a walk so the pram bit was wasted on us.
Also, my car doesn't have the correct mounts for the isofix base & the second base I bought (the surefix) didn't make matters much easier as I had a 3 door car at the time.
It also was a squeeze fitting it into my tiny hatchback so I ended up buying a second hand Quinny Buzz as it was one of few prams that would fold up into the minute boot I had. (LOVE it, its turquoise!:D)

I also had to buy a Graco car seat as they have the autobaby base that you seat belt into the car and can release the car seat with one click.
Other than that I had to click the car seat in, then climb in the other side of the car to fit the seat belt around

What can I say, I'll know better for next time! In the end I changed the car to a 4 door, my poor back was in bits after just a month of wrestling the car seat in and out of the 3 door!
When I was pregnant my car was a Ford Capri (hence my user name, love them!) but I sold that so I could get a 'sensible' car. In hindsight the Capri would've been perfectly practical and I would've fit 3 buggies into the huge boot on it! :(

The M&P Pliko was bought for me,with all the bells and whistles they're €700+
I have it advertised in adverts.ie now if anyone's interested ;)

    Thanks!!

Pretty sure the apple transforms to the pear.
My only problem with it is that it is perfect for twins but not so much a toddler and baby.

Have you tried the OBaby Apollo Plus & also the tandem that's a little like the P&T's one - it's quite nice light weight, i know there's a shop in Terenure that stock it.

was looknig at the xi sport myself in a shop a few weeks ago.
I was quite impressed,it has nearly swayed me towards a tandem and was only £199. Have a few months to go but preferred it to the standard Phil and Teds.

get a cossatto cabi. Smith's are doing a great deal on them. We've had ours for just over a year now and are very happy with it. There really is no need to spend more than 350 on a buggy stroke pram. All the extras are included like rain cover foöt cosy. They also take maxi cosi car seats by using convertors

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 18,986 Mod ✭✭✭✭Moonbeam

The handle height isn't adjustable on them is it?

Otherwise if it is the one that I am thinking of, it is a lovely light travel system but not suitable for tall people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,898 ✭✭✭✭ted1

no, its probably the only draw back. i'm 6ft and its ok for me, the misses is about 5' 6 and its perfect for her.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 18,986 Mod ✭✭✭✭Moonbeam

I am 5 4 and found it a bit low but know people shorter that have no issues at all.
It is what took it off the options list for us.
It is lovely though and light and everyone I have spoken to with them is very happy with them.
