    Following on from this thread

The majority of people decided that Saturday 12th December is the date we should have beers on

All that's left now is to organize it and book a location

So if you have any input or ideas, and can come along on the night, please share

We'll try to have a sing-along in the Green beforehand and a bucket will be passed around for you to donate what you can to go towards the SSF

I'm sure it'll be a great night for all who attend

    Which venue? 29 votes

Capitol Bar (with the chance of a glass of champers)

    Karma

Who is to be in charge of the SSF Bucket?

It will have to be someone people trust!!!

I will throw money in anyway! But some people would be skeptical!!

Who is to be in charge of the SSF Bucket?

That's a fair question. I think that someone known to other boardsies in real life and that has attended a Beers before, should hold it

Though I'm confident that all the people there will be more than trustworthy anyway :)

    :)

    How PC of you!!! :P

I agree on someone who would be known, a pretty person would get more money though!!! (I'd put myself forward, but I'm not going to!!! Never been to a beers!!)

    Location then.

    Who knows Dublin?

I have heard good things about Karma and the Capitol (TLL beers is on there, as we speak someone is probably being kicked out!:P)

You are point man on this URL, it's your baby!!

I'd suggest Sinnotts for ya's as I was a member of a group that used to meet there and it's a grand spot. Right beside the Green also.

Or The Dawson Lounge for the laugh ;)

I'd suggest Anseo on camden street. I doubt it would be packed to the rafters on a Saturday.

    Well, excuse me.

You make the place sound like a tip and it's easily the most plush club I have been too.

What's so special about that Karma place? There'd be nothing wrong
with starting off in the subpub (€3.40 pints).

Sub Lounge is good. And very central which would be handy for most people. Karma is a bit of a hike from the Dart stations which I presume a lot of people would be coming from. Always enjoyed any time I went to Sub Lounge anyway.

    Two places.

    The Woolshed

    OR

    The Gin Palace

Two of my favourite places to drink in town.

Seen the match in The Woolshed .. about as close to been at it as you could get. The crowd was amazing. Lots of French too and they didn't mind the handball so much as it goes :P

I do love that place. Really friendly people in there, nice food and they have a great DJ in there too.

Watching a match in there is great.

If I'm going to go, this definitely is a requirement!

The Sub Lounge is ok, although the bar staff could do with a kick up the arse. I was in there one Friday night and there was an endless list of people wanting bloody cocktails. They'd order about 10 in a go as well which took an eternity to make and they had one or two other barmen who looked like they were asleep. Would have been quicker to go brew my own beer. Drove me insane.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Dord

Sub Lounge is nice however it doesn't really work for big groups.... same for T.P. Smyths. Both nice places but not too big.

Karma is ok but despite people saying it... I haven't had a 3 euro pint in there in about 5 years. The prices are much the same as everywhere else. Music is fairly ****e too.

That Capitol place might be good as you can book a section I think... or maybe the Woolshed.

Sounds good :) haven't been myself but have always wanted to go in for a pint while tottering along into the cinema :D

Will a poll be set up on this between top 2 or 3 suggestions? :)

I should really start multi-quoting lol

I'll put myself forward for this - the powers that be know me, and I'm one of those responsible type people. I'm quite inclined to make an idiot of myself with strangers too so I'll have no problem bullying strongly suggesting that people make donations :D

If your doing busking/carol singing you need to get a permit.

Think it's just bottles and spirits that are €3, not pints.

This should be relatively straightforward (or at least it used to be), just need to go to the local police station (Pearse Street?) and ask there.

What about The Long Hall or The Long Stone?

I hear they are very long.

They're probably the shortest places ever.

You know one of those misleading nicknames like Tiny, except they're huge.

I'm still putting forward my selection of The Woolshed and also The Mercantile. Pretty decent place actually. Set foot in there over the weekend. Good music, lively and big enough.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,239 ✭✭✭✭WindSock

The Woolshed is over the other side of town. Not very convenient if people are meeting in Stephens green to sing. The Mercantile is the devil. May be ok though for a crowd. Just remember the music sucking A LOT, but I guess that's the same in most places in town.
I think a good place would be upstairs in Messrs. There were a few boards beers in the basement a while back but it was too cramped. The upstairs part is quite spacious.

Which is why I was suggesting the places arround The Green like Sinnotts. No way everyone will be happy about going to far after a sing-song .. the thirst will be on ya's bigtime then :D

Plus, Grafton St is always a picture a in December so you may aswell pick somewhere close by to soak up the atmosphere. The Dawson Lounge was a joke. Smallest pub in Dublin I believe :)

O'Neills on Suffolk ST is a big old place with many levels and you can always find a little room and enough people go upstairs they will send a barman up and open the little bar for you's.
