I am looking to buy a good .308 win rifle for target shooting. I like the Remington 700 action. I am tied between the Remington 700 Target Tactical or XCR Target Tactical. The 700 Target Tactical looks nicer but is more pricey. Has anyone any advice or maybe recommend another rifle in .308 Win. in the €1,000 to €2,000 price range?

    Regards,

    Seamus

you could buy a standard rem 700 and customize it say aics stock or other, trigger, bolt ,the options with the 700 action are endless.or go for a savage .308 with accu trigger which are the bis so I'm told hearing good reports on the savage

Can't speak for the Remington (although it looks very much like a Sako) but for the prices you are quoting i'd agree with MS and suggest the Savage .308. For out of the box rifles they are the business.

i bought the 20moa split picatinny bases for the savage and nightforce rings
    a harris bipod up front

(it is my aim/ambition to try and shoot out to 6, 9, 1000 yards in the ftr discipline)

Seamus Im goin to be selling my unique remy 700 in 308 if you interested. want to make room for new project. As i say it unique as it has a 1/10 twist remington barrel which is unusual as most are 1/12.It has an aftermarket hs prescision stock with wide palm swell, timney trigger and badger ordanance bolt handle installed by Fergal White of Irish custom rifle. She ll shoot less than 3/4" groups at 300 yards with 168gr hornady match. p m me if you interested

Have the 8-32X56 and 12-42x56 in NXS. Both have NP-R2 reticle and i'm looking for another Nightforce for the new Savage .308 but wanted to try a different reticle/model but with the price of the nightforce its not exactly something you buy to try.

Out of curiosity which make of picatinny rail did you get and off who?

The model I have on my savage ft/r is the 8-32-56 with NP1-RR reticle , simply because its the only nigtforce ive got, I use swarovski on my other yokes, However if I was buying one for dedicated long range target shooting I would be buying a Nightforce precision Benchrest model with the NP-2DD reticle. ITS the preffered reticle for 1000 yard competition, due to its optimum dot subtension, and the unobstructed field of view allows you to watch the wind flags to detect changes in the wind direction.;)

The rail and mounts I used are ken farrel with a 20 moa sloped rail and matching rings

what sort of money is it to have a centrefire rebarreled ? i have a heavy barreled .308 sako made in the late 60's , i bought it for dual use , hunting and target work , i no longer hunt and as the barrel is on its way out i'd like to have it rebarreled next year with say a 28" or 30" heavy stainless steel barrel .

will i need a lotto win to fund it ?

........I would be buying a Nightforce precision Benchrest model with the NP-2DD reticle.

I've sourced a second hand one but with the NP-1 reticle. I'd prefer the NP-1R but the BR models aren't available with this reticle. The NP-1 is similar enough to the NP-2DD except it has a fine crosshair compared to the suspended mil dot. Either way i think your right. Was speaking to a few lads this morning and they said the BR models have that finer adjustment the NXS lacks so i reckon thats next on my list. Cheers.

Was thinking along this line myself, but I was thinking of a CZ varmint in the Kevlar stock, since it has a set trigger perhaps a little recrowning and the action blueprinted would be a decent option.

    Any views or opinions??

Yes a bit of a CZ freak!!
