Ladies, I was wondering if your OH will watch your favourite shows with you. Like Sex and the City, Grey's Anatomy, the Soaps, etc?

I'm not saying these shows are just for girls, but my OH usually will not, foot down, no way!

On the other hand, I don't mind watching the footy or one of his 'manly' shows.

Male input greatly appreciated too, just wondered if anyone else in the same boat

(Thank god for internet TV) :P

Yep, would watch them even I can't stand them, keep the woman happy lol!!! I'm male!

Yeah! we kind of have the same taste anyway but to be honest....he's worse than me for programmes that are usually more girly. He watches soaps, loves Hollyoaks (I let that one go because its got gorgeous girls in it) even when it comes to movies he loves a girly type film just as much as a Horror/action "boy" film.

i slag him something fierce over it, hehehe.

Don't watch any of those shows

    Infact I don't have a tv!

I do watch things on the internet like south park, family guy, heroes, house and at the moment I'm going to watch the episodes of bones with stephen fry in them (I don't think any of those shows would have a certain gender following them, except meybe bones for david what's his face)

I much prefere to watch documenterys and not crappy american reality ones.

If I did have a guy I don't think he would mind watching those but I would have a problem watching football (rugby's my game)

Orla K: Ah you watch all the shows I watch!! But I'm a big fan of Grey's...has everything I look for in a show. Perfection at its best:D

He'd watch what I watch no bother. He might even admit to liking "girly" shows. We both like the likes of 24, The Unit, The West Wing etc as well though so it's certainly not all girly stuff. In fact, I probably prefer the more "blokey" stuff!

What can I say, I'm a sucker for mindless TV!

Together, we'd watch a lot of documenterys, love Planet Earth, Blue Planet (Anything with Attenborough's voice!)

My missus hates, and i mean hates all soaps, and i cant stand football, the perfect tv sharing setup :D I'll watch the x-factor and the like cos she likes them but we have pretty similar taste in tv

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,226 ✭✭✭taram

I guess I watch mostly ''manly'' shows like Dexter, sci-fi, Heroes etc. but he does admit to enjoy watching Ugly Betty with me and loves watching cooking shows with me :)

My brother bought me planet earth dvd, I love it I just keep watching it over and over (even if it's just to see the dogs reaction to the polar bear cubs, they try to look behind the laptop for them)

I can't watch a full episode of that, the characters seem to self absorbed, it bores the hole off me.

I've just one question, now I can tell which shows are girly shows not so much with guys shows but what makes a show girly or blokey?

Meh, I don't watch soaps myself, the only programs I watch that he won't is Strictly come dancing and X Factor, and at a push he will watch SCD.
When I'm watching these he plays the Xbox, otherwise we watch the same stuff, CSI, Bones, Fringe, Criminal Minds, Deadliest Catch, Mythbusters etc...
He like Stargate, I hate it but I'm trying to watch SGU and get into it for his sake.

    SGU= Stargate Universe

    Fringe
    Criminal Minds

See I love Stargate, but SGU so far is pretty rubbish! Watch the older stuff instead :) apologies in advance because it's like 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1 alone :)

    Yes and no.

    Mostly No.

You would have to read the Wiki tbh!!!

It's class, but if you don't like Sci Fi you wouldn't like it much!

I find www.imdb.com far better than wiki, it just gives you enough info to decide if you want to watch it or not and doesn't spoil things as much as wiki, it also has stills from the show which can be good when there's someone yummy in it, (wish the writing could get even smaller now) you can also click on the actors name and find out what else they were in and then watch those.

I usually watch Corrie on OnDemand when I'm alone, which is about the only thing I watch that he doesn't. But he's home more than usual lately so he's been on his laptop while I watch. Occasionally annoyingly interjecting with "who's he?" "why's he doing that?" "isn't he shagging the brunette, why is he kissing that blonde?" Which is the main reason I prefer to watch alone.

Tonight he was pretty quiet until the end when he yelled out
    No, they can't kill Roy!

He will watch a lot of my programmes, but he has his limits. Like myself, I will watch the soccer for him, but I get to watch my CSI Miami too!

Is like that a test? If a boy doesn't like twilight it's vamoose :pac: I've never seen it actually I have it on my phone so it's not like I don't have access to it.

Tbh I'd watch anything with anyone just as long as I didn't have to take it seriously. Like the effect xfactor and other reality tv shows have on people is insane it's a popularity contest always was always is it gets way too serious when you read the reality tv forum and hear that some "contestants" have recieved death threats.

Gimme top gear, myth busters, south park, family guy, big bang theory, the US office over the ultra serious xfactor :D

I'm not in a relationship, but if I was, I'd expect that we'd both watch ... what each other wanted to watch.
If he agreed to watch SATC with me, I'd watch whatever he wanted with him. It's only fair - has to work both ways. I wouldn't expect him to happily sit through all my choices of TV programmes without getting to watch something he wanted himself.

If I was watching something "boring", I'd happily let him do something else. I wouldn't force someone to watch a programme they hated ... they'd only complain through it and ruin it for me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,150 ✭✭✭✭Malari

We both watch the same kind of stuff. Fringe, SGU, House, Bones, Modern Family, Burn Notice, nature documentaries. Absolutely NO soaps or any of that X-Factor, Dancing, Singing or "talent" shows!

I used to watch soccer before I met him, but he hates it. We watch pretty much all other sports on tv, apart from GAA.

The difference between us that when a proramme I'm watching finishes I'm likely to turn off the tv. He'll flick around watching eye chewing gum for ages.

my OH is brilliant :) he would watch anything that I wanted to, even tho he hates it. Watches the xfactor with me, sex and the city.... whatever I want to watch unless there is something he really wants to watch and then we will watch it.
I think if he "put his foot down" about it, i would literally laugh in his face hehehe :) when sex and the city the film came out, i loved it so much that I wanted to see it again, and he came with me. he is too cute

There's absolutely no way I could sit through even a minute of some of the programs my wife watches - X-Factor or whatever that Gok Wan one is called.

I used to happily watch SATC with her though which I quite enjoyed.

The husband and I have similar taste in TV so there's never too much of a conflict.

I do watch Beastenders, but don't mind missing it, also watching the X-factor, he'll usually read when these are on. He watches a good bit of footy, I enjoy it too but probably wouldn't watch as a first choice mostly.

Stuff we watch together? Long list, quite the telly addicts. Lots of sci-fi, the odd sitcom, HBO stuff. We absolutely love sports on TV and watched shed loads of olympics, athletics, tennis, snooker. So looking forward to the Winter Olympics being on when I'm on maternity leave. It's funny because we both dislike playing sports.

The only split in TV tastes we have would be her liking Xfactor, but she's given up on that now thankfully.
Tried to watch it with her a couple of times, but just found it too painful, so ended up sticking on some headphones and drowning it out...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,853 ✭✭✭messrs

we watch most things together, he will watch eastenders with me but he draws a line at corrie!! but we would watch X factor, Big brother, Im a celeb - most reality shows , but then id watch shows that he likes with him so works both ways :)

I LOVE Pushing Daises. I can't believe it got cancelled so early on, it's a beautiful little work of art, it's so dark but at the same time so fairytale-esque. Every little detail is perfect, and I miss it. The series finale was crap though.. but I guess they got cancelled on short notice and had to do something to wrap it up.

Wish more people had heard of it, it's absolutely class.

And yes, Arrested Development is another gem that got cancelled way too soon. The movie has been in the works for the last.. however many years! I'm not holding my breath on that, unfortunately, though I'd love to see it.

Unfortunately, I think Pushing Daisies's own darkness defeated itself. I don't think people were really ready for a show that was so unapologetically true to itself. Every little detail, down to the Pie Shop being CGI was a fantastic nuance that made the show really stand out. But to the casual flicking observer, it probably looked 'silly' or something. The very idea for the show was amazing and the application worked perfectly. Bryan Fuller is ridic talented (and apparently has a new show in the works!).

As for the AD movie, IMDB reckons 2011. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0901469/ I shan't hold my breath either but I do remain hopeful....!

Aaaaaaaaaanyway, sorry for flying wildly off topic there folks... I don't know many people who've even heard of Pushing Daisies is all! :)

I LOVED Pushing Daisies, it was my favourite show last year! So upset it was cancelled. I loved the way the dialogue sounded like it had to be fast in order to fit in all the witticisms.

I still think of it every time I hear a Toblerone ad...sniff...:o

A wee bit OT but I heard a while ago that it kept getting delayed because Michael Cera wasn't keen about reprising the show - something along the lines of not wanting to ruin the show by making a film that wouldn't live up to its expectations.

I hope it does go ahead. IMO Arrested Development has probably the best show on TV in recent times. Well, that and Trailer Park Boys.
