    Girl: Anna, Shiobhan

Boy: I'd love to say Sebastian (Like in Cruel Intentions) But it would be too strange a name TBH.

Of course I don't want kids.

But that's what I would name them!!

Ooh, you like my name, OP! :D

I don't have a child, but if it was a girl ... Eva or Poppy (shhh, it's cute!)
If it was a boy, Dylan or Sebastian.

Girls: Sadbh and Aoibhe (I don't care if no one else can pronounce them! :D) Or else Amelia and Sophie. I didn't plan for those initials to be the same by the way!

    Boys: Conor and Aidan

    I think Poppy's a cute name :)

Has anyone ever asked their parents what their name choices were, before they made a decision on your name?
I was going to be called Eva, Rosie or Abigale!
I don't think any of those names suit me as much as my real name (
    Andrea
    )

Yeah, it's a cute name!! But it would freak me!!! :P

I was gonna be called Mark :( What a horrid name for me!!!

Then I was called Gavin. But I have basically changed that so Everyone knows me as Mini. Only my family call me Gavin.

I really like the name James but I'd be afraid the child would grow up to be called Jimmy.

Like Charlotte for a girl. (although found out last night the name just means 'man'. That's not very nice).

Ah I think I've a few years yet to be worrying about these things.

    Girls: Olivia, Emmeline, Siobhán

My granny was called Annie as well. Its one of my middle names. :)

Just found out my Dad's granny was called Molly so I've been thinking about that as well. He apparently loved her (he never talks about his past).

I had a lovely patient called Martha who died so I was thinking about that name as well. Or are they all a bit granny-ish?

    Eh, no.

Everyone actually calls my granny Nancy, but her given name is Ann, or Annie. Don't think I could inflict the name Nancy on a kid!

You'll find out in January. :D

My Nanny was called Molly, but her proper christened name was Mary. I think names like Martha are enjoying a comeback now.

I love Molly I already used it for a dog though :(, and Martha would be nice if I didnt associate it with the character in Home and away.

I really like James too. My other grandmother was Lena, I think that is really preety.

I used to work in a nursing home and jaysus, half the patients had 3 different names. Visitors would come in looking for a certain patient and it was like, "eh who?".

    Nancy is just awful though.

I like most names, but only after someone is called them, if you know what I mean. I mean....you know when you hear an unusual name and you think "that's bleedin' rubbish" but then if you get to know a person with that name it just becomes grand, or even good.

Classic example for me is River Phoenix. If I named my child "River" people would lol at me, but actually it's a grand name when you've heard it enough.

edit: For what it's worth, our kids are called Jack and Róisín. I love both names.
Jesus, your getting them out like a vietnamese sweatshop!!! :P

    ROFL. :D

This will only be number 3. After that it'll be just 1 more, 2 at most (unless it's an accident :D). Sure if you have 3 you may as well have 5. Only thing stopping us having a massive number (like 7 or more ) is that pregnancy is a pain in the arse.

Judging by most people I know, it should be a name (preferably Irish) that "goes against the grain" (that is: impossible to pronounce by anybody except their parents) and that will date the child so effectively to future generations that they may as well wear a post-it with Celtic Tiger Generation on their forehead.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,700 ✭✭✭✭holly1

What do you think of Emma,I love that name.Eva or Ava?
For a boy Jack,Paddy,Billy or Brian.
My Nanny's names were Catherine and Hannah.
    Grandads names Louis and Joseph.

Any examples? I don't particularly like any Irish name. Shame on me. :o

Aifric is the worst Irish name ever. Sneachta is another bad one.

    I love Irish names. :o
Fiachra, Ciaran and Beibhinn are favorites but I used up my quota of potential babies in the last post.
So I'll have to make do.

  • Girls: I really like Emme/Emmy but it sounds like it short for something else (and I think JLo's kid is called that) so I'd probably go for Alexis (Lexi) or Naoise.

    Boys: Dylan or Matthew

Emma is a nice name IMO. But only suits people who "look" like Emma's.

My nan's name is Catherine too, it's my mam's middle name!!! But Hannah is the prettiest name I have ever heard. I love that name!

Just a nice sound to it.

I really like old-fashioned informal boyish names like Johnny, Sonny, Harry, Tommy and the like.
