Dunnes Stores 'True love' t-shirt

I was in dunnes a few minutes ago and standing at the checkout noticed a t-shirt on the stands which said true love above the picture of a woman who appeared to have a black eye. It is in black and white with a sort of over exposed look to the picture so its not entirely obvious first glance.
What do people think of Dunnes marketing spousal(?) abuse in this way? Does it bother you? (trying to find a pic online atm but not much luck.) Thoughts please.

Interesting. I wonder are Dunnes involved with some sort of CSR initiative (ie, against Domestic Violence etc), or is is just a "fashion statement"? Will be in Dunnes later, will take a look.

Any sign that it was being sold to raise money for charity or was it just in with the regular t-shirts?

It was just a regular t-shirt from what I could tell and it definitely didn't look like an advertisement against Domestic Violence. tbh I found it extremely crass and cheap.

Did it say "True Love" or "True Love?"

If it had a questionmark it could be taken as a PSA kinda think, whoever bad an idea it was!!!

Sounds very crass to me in that case. And certainly not "edgy" if that's what they were aiming for. Whatever they were aiming for it sounds like they missed.

Due to extreme laziness I have not yet made it to Dunnes.

I saw no question mark. I see what you're saying but even if they had one I don't think it would improve the shirt. I should point out the image (even though over exposed) was of a very pretty done up girl, which is part of the reason the black eye didn't immediately register. It definitely didn't appear to me as if it could be interpreted as a campaign against domestic violence (obv everyone has to take my word for it til they see it though!)

It's times like this I wish phones had cameras... Oh wait. :p

Only a thick man would not see it was to raise awareness against domestic violence and raise funds at the same time

Rude and uncalled for - furthermore reverse sexism does nothing to solve the problem. Infraction given.

Explain what you are talking about "furthermore reverse sexism does nothing to solve" !!! is that calling the first guy Thick is a harsh word, guess that would be in the pubs and clubs of Galway!!!

I didnt think it looked like that at all! It just looked like a black and white picture really, well to me anyway!

See that's what I'm thinking! I'm wondering it is meant to be just one of those "artsy" photos ... but it just happens to look like she's got a black eye?!

Will have to wait til I see it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

Are you sure it wasn't heavy eye make up?

I'll have to see the tshirt before I comment, but if it is what the OP described it is in quite poor taste

    Maybe it was "satorical." ;)

    No? :(

Do not buy "A kiss with the fists is better than none" by Florence and the Machine.;)

Looks like Dunnes is going to have a fair few people down there tomorrow. Darn capitalists, and their morkeshing....

Bad photograph, but from what I can see I don't think it's a black eye and just heavy makeup.

Not exactly the clearest picture, but TBH I think it looks like a black eye!

It's only on one eye, with a facial expression that is quite somber!!

I don't know what it's supposed to be though and TBH, it's not something I would lose sleep over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,420 ✭✭✭Lollipops23

It looks like a shadow and make up...if they wanted to have her with a black eye they would surely make it more clear?

    I think it's quite a nice top!

She was the watermark on the old pound note, wasn't she?:pac:

Doesn't look like a black eye to me...looks "arty farty, lets put eye shadow on one eye only" type thing. Or just the lighting from the original shoot.

    Alas, it's probably too late.

The males-against-retail-misogyny strike force mobilisation is probably at Alert Stage 3.

Perhaps they can divert their fire-power to the enslaving, subliminal ciphers of the household utensils section?

My ... Dunnes have come a long way since the Anti-Apartitie protest of the 80s .It's all so cool and shexy now

i saw it on saturday and took a picture meaning to put it here but had to delete my photos :( anyhow, i didnt think it looked like a black eye at all, its eye makeup with a strand of hair from the long fringe.

lot of fuss about nothing :)

I think it does sorta look like one. Under the eye. Why would they have just make up run under one eye if it were to inidicate crying over a true love? (or whatever it is supposed to indicate)

It looks like a black eye. But it isn't. It's just hair from her fringe under the eye, not make up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,883 ✭✭✭shellyboo

I would imagine it's kind of a shadow - her hair is coming down over her eye so it would have been darker in the original photo than the other eye.

    Mmm, +1

I only have to look at my Iron to feel oppressed...

I do think it looks like a black eye. Not sure what Dunnes were thinking. Yes, her hair is coming down but apart from that there's black under her eye. Unless she was interrupted before she could put eyeliner on her other eye, I don't believe it's 'arty' make-up..
