Sky News - Baby Buggies Recalled Over Safety Risk

This caught my eye today - Children having their fingertips cut off by the hinge mechanism on a Maclaren pram.

It hasn't been directly pointed out that it hasn't happened once over this side of the Atlantic, and all instances of it happening was due to the parents having the children in the buggy while it was being folded/unfolded... Is my paternal ignorance missing something here? Is this common?

I bet "Remove child from Stroller before folding" wasn't put in the instructions and they're all after a lawsuit.

I heard once that there is a model of hoover that they had to put "Not for anal use" into the instructions after somebody won money for trying to suck his insides out.

where does it say the kids where in the buggy at the time?

I believe it was, at least in the UK instructions, so the mouthbreathers won't be able to sue.

Apparently the US side is distributing "hinge covers" to those who purchased the buggy. Wow.

Having a baby of my own I don't find that one bit funny actually

This is crazy, the hinge is designed to shut on things when the buggy is being closed / opened. I do hope the parents who allowed their children to poke their fingers into the hinge do not have doors at home otherwise they may find it surreal when their child crushes their remaining fingers!

It's easy to take your kid out of the pram while you're operating moving parts also.

I cant really find where it says which hinge is affected? This is an Umbrella Stroller with a Canopy. Perhaps this is the hinge that Opens and Closes as you open and close the canopy?

    "Oh shoot here comes rain,

/Put 3 Mo. Old son on ground
    /Deploy Canopy
    /Return Mud Baby to pram"

edit: did find Maclarens site - http://recall.maclarenbaby.com/faq.php

Ok, theres a good chance this is Darwinism at work.

Try putting your kids head in the buggy as described in the picture and see if you laugh then.

If it's the usual, the sense of humour is erased after sleep deprivation and psychosis, both resulting after bring little sh1ts into the world.:(

Years afterwards, when the feckers have left home, the sense of humour returns, only a lot more vicious than it was before:D

No need to get personal. Was just reading a story just before that about a child been killed up the country that's all. I probably would have found it funny on a different day.

    You're a funny guy though!

I think this proves that Irish & European babies are far smarter than Americans ones. I put this down to our quality baby makers. And high levels of milk delivery in previous years. :D:D:D
