Modern Warfare 2: The Initial Verdict

This game is really cooking my graphics card. Had to stop playing the single player last night the card was stuttering at temps of 95+ degrees.

Can't get a good connection in multi player at all, it might run ok for a few seconds then becomes completely unplayable. I don't see any of these bar things or any kind of connection information anywhere.

yeah im getting a stuttering effect at times, i dont know what causes perhaps the high video settings i have. it happened in both single and multiplayer

They did a really good job in selling us Cod4 again, hats off to them.. i mean for awhile there they had me thinkin it was gonna be all fresh and new and would be worthy of game of the year...:rolleyes:

Mine is running great, I have no problems so far and that on the old 2005/6 dell dimension

The multiplayer showed a bit of lag there after 12 hours of play. It was in the deathmatch express that i found it lagged a bit.

My friend who has played with me and pro's in years gone by saw his first blatant aimbot last night. That didn't take long.

And with no admin's there was nothing he could do but quit. GG IW.

I have the game pretty much maxed out and playing at 1900 x 1200. It was running perfectly up to that point it didn't even seem totally action related. It wasn't until I shut the game down and checked the temp of the card that I saw what the problem was. It's a supposed to be a passively cooled card but I pointed a fan at it when this started happening before due to high temps. MW2 obviously puts it under more pressure than other games I have.

totally unbiased opinion, I've never been into FPS games on any console (bar wolfienstein way back in the day :pac: ) and im enjoying it, MP is good for me cause theres no waiting around, its just sign up and shoot away. looking forward to try some co-op stuff if i can find people to try it but other than that, I find the game quite good

I played the multiplayer for a fair few hours over the weekend, and even as one of the so called 'casual gamers' that its aimed at, I can safely say it is as bad as everyone predicted.

Its just way too laggy to play with any kind of precision. I brought up the lagometer and changed the ping bars and it was not a pretty sight If my ping went over 100 in COD4 i'd just go to a different server, or call it a day. But in this, you could have 200+ ping and its giving you 3 or 4 green bars as though everything is great :rolleyes:

Not to mention all the sitting around between matches waiting for it to find other players, and half the time after waiting ages for a match it disconnects me and throws me back to square one. Plus the host migration takes way longer than the 5 seconds they said it would, more like 20+ seconds. And the maps are crap, they're mostly just a big jumble of buildings with millions of windows for campers/lurkers.

Im done with it already, compare to COD4 where I must have gotten hundreds of hours out of it. The singleplayer was alright but the multi-player is useless.

Haven't played MP yet - I tend to complete SP before I try MP.

Just finished SP there, and it was pretty good, some awesome set pieces. But I was getting kinda sick of the player character

dying all the time. When they did with the American soldier in the nuclear blast in the first Modern Warfare it was brilliant because it was so unexpected, but jesus it just seems to happen an awful lot in this one. In particular Roach getting done after the defending the house really p*ssed me off.

Finished it on the weekend and all I can really say, is it was like getting a visit from jesus christ himself. Loved every second of it, and it left things open nicely for a Modern Warfare 3. Started my second playthrough last night. Reading the reaction from some very immature PC gamers across the net has had me laughing my ass off, you lot are only depriving yourselves of GOTY.

Yeah, I had no basis for wanting of dedicated servers and anti cheat support. The games been out now for what? A week?

Great gameplay but the single player was way too short!
For someone with no broadband for multiplayer that sucks.
Still some nice touches and again the SAS missions were way better than the American one's.

To be honest, I think the game is pretty poor. It feels like a United Offensive to Call of Duty 1. I'm just glad I didn't pay for this game and borrowed it off a friend. When you strip down all the shiney-ness and 'splosions, it's just 'run there, dodge that, shoot him, run there, dodge... etc' While this was all fine and good in MW1, what that game had going for it was it was fresh. This is just a skinned version of that game with new locations.

As for that 'controversial' level, I didn't find it shocking. But I did find it enormously irritating. It existed for no reason other than to shock. And when...

your character gets double-crossed and murdered at the end of the level

, I did nothing but roll my eyes.

Final thought- more of the same, shineyer, the lack of lean is frankly infuriating as it completely cripples you at some points. And a ludicrous, laughably stupid story. Great graphics though.

VAC bans mean nothing to me considering you can sign up a new account and be back online in under five minutes. This game has garnered some very unwanted attention and at this stage there is nothing IW or Steam/Valve is going to do that won't be ripped to shreds in days.

Right , I relented ... too many guys on teamspeak playing it , so I feel after 3 nights of playing I can comment now .

My Initial verdict is ..... as a pc player of all the other COD games plus CSS Battlefield DOD and others I think it is much faster and very arcadey . Bouncing around the place with dual P90's I wasn't worried about him killing me I was worried about me have an epileptic fit . The multiplayer finding a game thing seems for the most part to work out fine , not what us PC people are used to but for a game like this that is just for a laugh then it's fine . It reminds me of the mods that were made for the last unreal game 2007 ? . Kill cam makes the hit boxes look massive , no idea whether they are or not . I reckon I will be owned by kiddies for the most part but sur it's only for a laugh the faith of the world doesn't rest on it .

I think it is time for a new thread for the guys that have been playing it since it came out to give an opinion on the game now that they have played it for a few weeks .

very short even on veteran but less stupid levels from MW1 so that's a good thing; bar one or two semi-stumbling sections.

silly on-the-rails sections were pretty poor tbh.

very Micheal Bay over all - lot of style and whatnot.

hopefully it was just a lull before an awesome end to a MW trilogy.

I think it is time for a new thread for the guys that have been playing it since it came out to give an opinion on the game now that they have played it for a few weeks .

Well ive been playing it and nothing else since release and still enjoying it.
I play team based objective modes mostly and to me this is where the game shines.
I stay well clear of hardcore just like i did in COD4, its just too easy to kill in so called hardcore.
Domination,Demolition,HQ,Sabotage are all good fun when played correctly.
A few things are just plain stupid in the game however.
My biggest gripe is the akimbo shotguns, especially the ones you get at lvl 67 or so are just ridiculously stupidly overpowered.
Ive killed guys 40-50 feet away from me with them.
On some of the smaller maps ive racked up 60 or 70 - 10 kill/death ratio when using these things.
Its just stupid and ruins the game imo.
The javelin expolit has been fixed on pc version.
Another totally stupid thing is the commando perk which magically extents your little dagger into a 10 foot long spear, absolutely silly idea from iw.
Sort the akimbo shotguns and comando perk out [not gonna happen] and MW2 will be a truely great multiplayer fps time killer.

Got the game last week.
Cleared it yesterday it was short but good i enjoyed it a-lot. Will clear it again but this time i will play it at the hardest lvl.. cleared it one down from the top.

As for MP im not sure if i will play it all that much. Only time will tell...

Like Cully I'm still really enjoying it. Been playing either Demolition, CTF or FFA. FFA on some of the maps is just mayhem. Its a decent bun, dedi would have been the cherry on top, but its still decent.
