Suprised there hasn't been a thread on this yet.

Looks like game 3's about to get under way thankfully.

I have to say I'm LOVING ozzie commentating on fox atm :D

Well that wasn't a good inning at all :(

Looks like Pettite is really struggling to get the righties to chase anything outside the zone. The lefties are obliging...pity they're not all lefties :D

    a-bomb......from a-rod :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

    I <3 instant replay....

    ..well for now :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Gdep

    typical a-rod...hr followed by error

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

His defence has been a bit sloppy this series. I thought it was an error on him for the run scored in game 2 of AJ.

that was a definite error...it went directly under his glove.....swish got a hit...now wer talkin :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

LOL pettitte looked stunned as he was leaving the box after that hit!

Credit to victorino, at least made it a close play at the plate.

They gave it as a hit i'm pretty sure. Bit of a hometown scoring decision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Gdep

the way they batted in the first two games i did not see this coming...good hit by pettitte.....if he goes seven with the score as it is...does mo go 2 innings again??

o i know they scored it a hit...i was just saying i felt it was an error...definite hometwon decision...if a-rod had 6 k's and an error they would have been all over him

Yeah its about time the hits came. Up till now its been scrapy scoring.

I dunno, Joes capable of making that call but I'm not sure if he should, we can't keep running him out for 2 innings. Depends on whos due up I guess. If the top of the order is up in the 8th I'd go to him and if he gets worked hard then I might change it for 9th.

We need to hold the lead first though :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

I hate looking at pitch counts but he's at least in decent shape to get through 7. Seems to have settled down a bit and is hitting his spots a bit more.

Would like to see another run or two tacked on so Mo isn't needed for 2. Haaps a tough nut though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Gdep

poor ab from jorge...no need to swing there....he should get through 7 ok....robertson then mo i would say....might add some runs here so mo night be required.

what do you think about CC on short rest tomorrow?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

I like it! much more than Gaudin on like a months rest thats for sure :D

I think CC had 7 days rest before game 1 so he should be plenty rested and has been superb in most of his 3 day rest starts (baring one against the phils last year :P)

I like the call for roberston in the 8th. real swing and miss stuff.

OH AND BOOM GET OUTTA THERE SWISH!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Gdep

he got a hold of that one. girardi looks like a genius again for going back to swish and leaving matsui out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

This game could work out well for yanks tomorrow too.

Blanton has an 8+ era against the yanks and will be on an almightly tight hook with uncle charlie if they can get at him. Haap would have been the obvious choice to be the long man for them if needed. With him pitching here he won't be that guy.

This could be our chance to get into that pen

    Edit: damn you werth! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Gdep

it seems to be one guy every night that the pitchers have problems with.....i like coke and robertson up...no mo for 2 innings if girardi is to be believed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

If thats the case coke and marte could be the keys to this game.

Big K there for andy on Feliz. I was starting to fear this inning would get away from him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Gdep

interesting that durbin is up for them...you would have thought he would have been another relief option for blanton tomorrow. Wouldnt think it would be in a managers mindset but it seems they may be counting tomorrow as a loss already and concentrating on winning this one...........on the other hand i am probably completely wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

I reckon andy's done now. Either way 9 huge outs for the course of the series.

OK which version of Joba will we get?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Gdep

is it just me or has cano the worst attitude ever at the plate???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Gdep

    im praying for 07 joba...

before the midges got him of course

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

Ah 07 joba, how I miss thee!

Nice effort by him there. Was afraid Joe would go straight to Marte with Utley up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

Matsui in the hole so Joba's done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Gdep

why o why is phil hughes pitching the 8th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

    A thrilllllla from Godzilla :D

I reckon phil will be on a short leash. 2 guys reach and mo's coming in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Gdep

who am i to question girardi tonight haha...joba perfect...godzilla pinch hit homer... to think i wasnt gonna stay up for this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

Excellent work from Marte! He's really got that slider fixed.

Ironic that Hughes was the lights out guy during the regular season and then the wheels came off but marte was a dud in the regular and is now pitching out of his skin.

So Hughes for the 9th and try and save Mo me thinks.

lack of faith in hughes i think shown there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

Yeah I don't think he's the automatic 8th inning guy now. Im ok with that in a way. Just go with your best guy at the time in a short series.

He can get his confidence back this inning :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Gdep

    dear god no

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

wow, I thought he'd give him stairs and worst case scenario go to mo with a 2 run lead. Come on mo!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Gdep

thats got to be the end of his post season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

I think he'll get more work. We're really trying to win this thing with just CC,AJ,Andy and Mo though.

    YES! Great win.

Nice win. one more win in Philly and i think the series is ours. with CC goin tomorrow i can see it happening. Roll on tomorrow night!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

wow wow wow. What a game..

I'm gonna be rotten sick tomorrow with so little sleep but for that 9th inning alone I will gladly take it.

Johnny Damon might have earned a contract with one AB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,577 ✭✭✭lord lucan

What a 'mare for Burnett, retired in the 3rd.!!!! Phillies are hitting everything tonight, looks like it'll be back to the Bronx if the Yanks want to win it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

Utley deserves MVP even if the Yanks win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

    I dislike chase utley :D

Yeah there hasn't really been a standout performer for the yanks so even if they did win Utley would have to be in with a shout. Maybe Mo for the yanks if they win other than that no-one else has done much consistently.

Same thing happened burnett against the angels. Once they decided to jump on his first pitch they had great success. There's such a big deal made about him and 1st pitch strikes that you know he's gonna try and throw a fastball for a strike. Utley never swings at first pitch but was coming out of his boots at the first pitch he seen. Thought molina should have called some more offspead stuff for 1st pitch to keep them off that fastball.

Problem is Burnett on any given night can have great trouble getting his slow stuff over the plate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

Might have been better than throwing cookie fastballs to fastball hitters.

I was hoping they'd have started Gaudin yesterday. I know it would have been a risk but against Lee I expected a lose anyway(Although 5 runs off him should have been enough to beat him!).

Then AJ on full rest in NY and if needs be CC on short rest again. I'm worried about andy on short rest and wouldnt give it to Gaudin now in case he coughed it up big time and gave the phils the momentum.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70 ✭✭JohnHenry

Pedro back in the Bronx baby!!! I cant wait, what a character. Utley could hit one out onto the Major Deegan!

I think we will see a game 7, great world series so far, unbelievable tactics, excitment, huge moments, its got the lot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Gdep

I think the Yankees will beat up on pedro tomorrow. Problem is the phillies will do the same to pettitte. Down to the bullpens. And they both seem to be so up and down I reckon Yankees win 9-7. Johnny Damon to steal home for good measure hahaha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 Boomer08

Pettitte to win tonight and retire a Yankee hero.

Who gets MVP, Utley is the only one to stand up so far.

It'll be Utley unless someone else has an outstanding display AB in game 6(or 7?). Jeter is the only one i can think of that could give Utley a run for his money.

I would a agree now but before game 5 I thought if Lee had another strong game pitching that he could possibly get it should the Phillies go on to win.

If the Yankees win the series tonight with Jeter having a productive AB then he will get it but IMHO Utley deserves the tag MVP. He has single handedly kept the Phillies in this while the bat of Rollins, Howard, Ibanez and Victorino have all been relatively cold. Jason Werth is playing well but Utley is the star of the Phillies and franchises future.

Any idea if Victorino is playing tonight or will his right hand injury keep him out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 Boomer08

Victorino says he is avaialble and ready to play. Its a must win game so they will probably use him, the Phillies need all the bat they can get. As "The Munky" says if Utley has a cold bat tonight I can't see where else the Phillies are going to get the hits.

How much of a difference to both teams will having a DH make tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,577 ✭✭✭lord lucan

With Jeter beating Gehrigs record and all i'm leaning towards a sentimental MVP for him, though Utley deserves it both for regular season and WS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

If yanks win tonight pettite might get it. If they win in game 7 id go for damon (.381/4 rbi/ 3 SB and that big AB) or mo if he closes it out.

If phillies utley will get the MVP, the keys to philly, drug tested, a shed load of money etc etc :D
