    Tekken for 95c - nice!

I think my PS1 controller is due to arrive tomorrow. Quite nervous as I'm not 100% certain it's one of the analogs. I'm about 96%, as the long handles in the picture just jumped out at me when I seen it. Could just be fancy camera work though :D

Brought to life by a "super smooth animation running at a TV scorching 50 frames per second" apparently :D

Disc's in great condition and no booklet. I saw ISS there too but passed on it.

Oh damn, some high-tech sh*t right there!

I'd pass on ISS too TBH...

I remember getting Tekken 1 back in the salad days of the PlayStation, and even by that point it had a distinctively quaint favour to it, but the most memorable thing was that the original release of it was one of those early PS1 games with hard cardboard cases. Oh, the joy.

Still can't find my fecking camera, so moar crappy phone pics!

Just some of the stuff I've gotten over the last week or so.

    Japanese Gamecube + Mario Kart:

    A PS1, nothing special:

    And then this arrived today:

Quite liking the longer handles so far. Not sure on the analog sticks though as there's no grip on them. I'll have to get a flight stick compatible game and see what the special flight stick mode is like :D

As a matter of interest Atavan, do the analog sticks rotate like mini steering wheels?

I have four of these. On two of them the analog sticks rotate, but on the other two they don't. They're just like dual shock analog sticks with indents.

It's not just some being old and seized up, because one of my non rotating ones is absolutely mint.

It's nice to have as it's part of the feature, but it's a pain in the arse for playing games. I was trying to play Gradius V the other day with it and I just couldn't as the stick kept rotating all over the place! Had to plug in one of the non spinning ones instead.

Checked there and they do rotate. That's kinda weird that some roate and some don't. Something interesing aswell if wiki is to be believed. The jap ones have model number SCPH 1150, Us ones are 1180 and Pal ones are 1180e. This one is just 1180 so I'm thinking it could be American (if wiki is to be believed that is). Maybe check your model numbers? Who knows, maybe the American ones rotated and the Pal ones didn't.

I was thinking that so check yesterday ;)

All of mine say 1180 and all came from within Europe. It's weird. I don't think the 1180e models have an e on the back of them.

I actually managed to break one of the non rotating ones before I realized there was a difference :(

'WTF, this one doesn't rotate, maybe it's stiff' /snap.

Luckily for me it was the one knackared controller I had. It didn't seem to work anyway so it's no great loss.

I opened it up to see if I could fix the stick and it seems like they used the same shell as the Japanese model 1150. The 1150 had a rumble feature. These seem to have a little spot where the rumble thing fit, it has just been removed.

What I might do is take apart a standard dual shock and see if any of the analog stick bits that broke can be swapped. While I'm at it I'll see if I can add the rumble feature too.

They're the exact same as the jap ones apart from the vibration. If you do try add in vibration just remember that the jap ones only had the motor on one side. Although you could try make a dualshock one :D

Yeah I was wondering when I opened it up. There was a spot for just one vibrating motor thing. Will see if I can fit two :)

Might also see if I can put standard dual shock analog sticks it in. Frankestein pad!

Christmas nights into dreams for Saturn. Found it in a charity shop. have not played this since about 1996 when it came out. Played it a lot back then for about 5 to 6 months.

I want to get one of those controllers.

Were there many of them around? Was there a decent supply in Ireland ergo is there a chance some will show up in a charity shop?

Not sure. They were released mid 97, sold poorly and discontinued and replaced by the dualshock in 98 so no not many are around. Mine came from adverts from Waterford and o1s1n may have gotten one of his from Ireland too. Best bet is to search ebay often. It's how I came across a few.

I've only ever seen maybe 3 or 4 controllers in a charity shop so it's unlikely unfortunately.

Congrats! Nice to see three copies of SOR together like that.

Have you played Alien Soldier much? I've been playing it every day the past week. It's absolutely brilliant. It's one of those games you need to give a bit of time before it clicks.

Some of the bosses are really tough to crack at first. But once you get the feel of the controls/special moves/knowing which combination of weapons to use for what, it just works.

I havnt played it at all yet, I never got a ROM for it ( since i didnt own the cart ) and I said I'd wait to play it the way its meant to be played.

Its bittersweet though because I just got an email about my refund for gunstar heroes

I agreed the sale on sega-16 forums, emailed the fella and he was even throwing in a few ps1 games for me too. The package didnt arrived after 2 weeks so I emailed him a few times, got no reply so went to a paypal dispute and he didnt reply to any of that.

So its £20 back into my paypal but I was looking foward to a gunstar heroes, he even sne tme pics of it so I'd say he might have goten sick or somthing because he seemed like a grand fella

Two important things to remember about Alien Soldier. (If you don't know this you'll throw the game across the room in a rage and never play it again)

Pressing down and C makes you dart across to the other side of the screen. When you do this, you can't take any damage.

If you do this when you have full flashing health, you'll do a phoenix attack. This is really really important for bosses as it takes off chunks of their health.(Normal weapons do very little damage)

Once you do this attack, your health is no longer flashing. So you'll have to top it up again with some that the boss (may) drop to do it again. This can be tough as the boss is taking reams of health from you. And he may only drop one tiny health. Or none at all.

Also, pressing down and A lets you switch between fire modes. Use the green fire mode most. It locks your weapon in a position while you move around. Kind of like strafing in an FPS. I didn't figure this out for ages and kept having reams taken out ofme.

That sucks about Gunstar Heroes. Always dodgy buying thing from a non boards.ie forum. I've only ever done it twice and have been freaked out on both occasions that the items wouldn't arrive.

Yeah I can see it getting a bit of stick from people as it doesn't have the instant accessability as say Gunstar Heroes.

It's definitely as good as it though. The combat is a bit deeper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭Jack burton

well i was watching some gameplay footage and it looks a very different type of combat but I cant wait to play it.

and of corse the one day that theres noone here to take the bit packets off the postman is the day it arrives!

Art of fighting is there too, I dont really care about it though, I only got it caus it was mint and complete and €11

Heh, more or less the same reason I bought it myself. It's not a very good game at all. But it's an interesting one to have.

I hate postmen delivering stuff to another house. I'm sure I've told you all about the time my 5 year old neighbour arrived at the door with a boxed airsoft rifle for me.

    'Dis is for choo'

    /Hands o1s1n a machine gun.

I also had another postman stop into my other neighbour with some animation cels. The postman asked if they knew my name, they said no :confused:so it was sent back to a hub without any notification to me. There it sat and only turned up two months later when I frantically tried to hunt it down. What made matters worse is that animation cels need to be treated with care so sitting around like that can ruin them. Plus if they were lost, they were one off items gone forever.

Yeah, as much as I love postmen for the goodies they deliver..sometimes they worry me like nobody else can!

The postman in my area never worries me, because it's me. So I always get things on time hahaha.

Was at a garden fete/jumble sale type thing today and got a little bit.

Fat PS2 + 2 controllers, 2 memory cards, all cables, buzz buzzers and 2 eyetoys (???) for €5 Also had spiderman in the disc tray so win! Everything on it is caked in dust (fans, vents etc..) so I'll open it up and give it a good clean tonight.

Boxed GBA for €2. For some reason the GBA itself is white but the box is for a purple GBA. Not a problem though as I have a near mint purple GBA that will go along nicely with the box.

About 6 PS1 games, nearly all sports. I only wanted 1 but the lady said just take them all for €1.50.

Boxed GBA for 2 quid! Niice! I love the GBA boxes and if I had more money than sense I'd get a couple of different colours.
