Wow! Love the look of that. The CD drive looks brilliant. (that is a cd drive, right?)

I take it the OS is all in Japanese?

Steve I think you'll have to post an "FM Towns stuff" thread when it arrives!

I'm just looking at how seriously superior a lot of the ports were for this computer:

As a common rule the best Tech is usually the least credited in history!

Ah SteveSI, you underestimate that FM Towns, it is a gem, I'd say your one of few, if not the only person in Ireland who owns one.

Marty-shmarty, the FM Towns PC is the ultimate machine in the Towns line-up. What a system! Glad you went for the PC version, was afraid you'd gone for a Marty. They are just not worth it because of the reliability issues, plus incompatibility with games the Towns PC can run.

What a grail though. Truly a biblical purchase sir. I cannot stop gushing, although I do feel somewhat crushed knowing I'll likely never own one (let alone find one for sale).

Credit where credit is due though, you took a chance and bought one (and found one for sale). You lucky, lucky man!

Did you get anything bundled with it? The Towns OS? Games? Controllers etc?

I agree. This is an epic pickup well-worthy of it's own thread. Hope the mods agree and hope SteveSI starts a thread on it.

Definitely keen to follow progress on this one. Such an epic GET! :)

Yep, the OS is entirely Japanese. Not that difficult to navigate though, just chuck the CD in and it should autoplay.

Got a bunch of stuff with it, controllers, the OS of course, all cables and some other bits. All original and has been checked.

But if anyone ever wants one I could have it in a few weeks to a month in Japan and then you'd just need to sort out your shipping. I passed on 2 of them looking for this one.

There has been some serious amount of kit got in here since January.

Excellent. Make sure the monitor is working properly too, the PC monitors are known to be a bit temperamental, mainly due to the age of the system really, nothing you can do about that. Is yours a Towns or Towns II system?

Dale Parish, this is your callup to action sir!

Definitely will look you up for one in future SteveSI, once I can justify the shipping cost. What a treat it would be to have one. If enough folks bought them as a group buy we could save on shipping and you'd also have an instant FM Towns Ireland community. :)

For Pyongyang, I think his rather emotional response to Steve's purchase warrants this video more than any that have gone before, please, get a hold of your feelings Sir!

Not ashamed of it Adultappleflavouredbeveragemale! :)

Finding, let alone buying an FM Towns PC is more monumental than if it was a Marty console. Epic purchase that deserves to be lauded.

Plus I want to have a shot on it. :D

Small items are reasonable but get anything heavy and it can be very expensive!

Is this a sign Dale Parish might succumb and add an FM Towns system to his collection?

Mate was in tokyo and paid a visit to super potato
He came back with a pretty good haul , including this for me :)

    th_IMG_20120422_175849.jpg
    th_IMG_20120422_175906.jpg
Plays perfectly on the famiclone I got last week .
Its not as good as the PC engine version but its better than the C64 one!
Plus it kept the original arcade controls (buttons to run , and jump is using any direction on the pad).

Here's a whole bunch of FM Towns for sale, or am I missing something?
They don't seem that expensive, if they are as rare as they (Pyongyang) say.

400 quid for a 23 year old PC is expensive

    FYP.

Nice to see two for sale though. Those games are at the lower price scale because they are nearly all porn. Have a look for Castlevania or Image Fight etc. Not cheap at all. :(

I'd be keen to see the shipping cost on those PC's though, and some actual photos of what you are buying.

Not really retro but finally got Donkey Kong Country Returns for a non-rip off price of 33 euros. Arrived today. Also got my first 3DS games, shinobi :)

Few bits arrived today. I had put my work address on the paypal thing but for some reason they showed up at my doorstep this morning, on my only day off so I guess that's cool.

Myth is the first real game I ever completed fully as a kid.

The all important Judge Dredd map.

    dsc1110ih.jpg

Lost my original version of this somewhere in the attic, easier to buy again than go up there.

New in box DC(box is a bit ratty but not to bad).

Not a bad haul, few duplicate items that I'd already got but they came with the games I was really after so no harm to have a backup or 5.

Minty Monty Python! And Turrican. Nice

Look at all that C64 goodness!

The last ninja 3 is a bugger of game, definitely the hardest one of the series.

Never played it as a kid, only on an emulator a few years ago.

But these days I'm far more easily distracted and not as persistent as I was during my c64 days.

Yeah, nice and mint except for the stickers. But I guess that adds character to it or some nonsense :)

Pity about the NES. It looks well inside a wooden case if you decide to go down that route. I picked up an an Analogue Interactive consolized version last year for the collection and it looks very sweet indeed. The wood is a little darker than it looks on the website but I think it looks better for it.

    Like this but slightly darker:

I should point out I didn't pay full price for it, contacted them directly and we worked something out.

I'm surprised you didn't hear it more often on here!

Especially when a certain mod has teased us by asking if we saw photos of his collection, that he hasn't posted since! :D

Well, this mod really doesn't have a particularly extraordinary collection at all, and there have been enough witnesses now to negate the need to post pictures...
Unless I'm not the mod you're talking about, in which case.. I sorry :(
