No but there's no way I'm playing the non japanese version of Castlevania 3! Haven't any carts but when I do start buying games a few will be US and Japanese.

Thats fair enough, there are adaptors you can get which I'm looking for now...no mod needed. The 60Hz thing won't happen though, you'll need an NTSC NES for that. But seriously, given the cost of a NES...

Also forgot one other minor detail. My mam said that if anymore videogame 'shit' arrives in the house she'll throw me out for wasting my money. I've got Mass Effect 2 and 4 virtual boy games all arriving seperately. I think a NES will be the be pushing it too far especially after she flipped over the Virtual Boy.

Tell her the stuff thats arriving is lab equiptment for college. Tut tut, never tell women the truth if they ask...its asking for trouble :D

Get it all sent to the distribution centre or get a PO box.

Or just hit the mother a few belts with a wavin pipe

Can you mod any NES to take US and Jap carts?

Why am I looking for an adaptor? Cut pin 4 of the bloody region ic & it runs import carts duh (I'm getting old)

You can run Famicom carts on the NES with an adaptor, thats what I was thinking of I think. Its a 72 pin to 60 pin downsizer, & is actually already in some early NES carts.

At least when Catherine arrives you can claim its clothes :P

My parents I think have learned to accept my habits. I don't tend to get many games delivered to the door (or not at the moment, while funds are limited) but it's a rare week when a box full of Amazon DVDs doesn't arrive. You just have to get £25 worth of stuff for free delivery ;)

It comes in a pizza box so I'll tell her to put it in the fridge and I'll reheat it when I get home :)

Or to just leave it on your PS3, I hear they're good for that kinda thing. Cidey?

Vertical Force is indeed good, Red Alarm is the most impressive I reckon, even if it does melt my brain after about 10 mins.

So far I've got Mario Tennis and Red Alarm. Red Alarm arrived this morning so not got to play it. I have Vertical Force, Galactic Pinball, Teleroboxer and Warioland on the way. So it has to be Mario Tennis by the virtue of it being the only game I've played on it. It's a damn fine Tennis game though.

Warioland can go for silly money, i want to get it at some stage.

    heres what i have

Got my Black Gameboy Advance SP today, in good nick. Was hoping it was an AGS-101 but it's a plain old AGS-001 :) Now to go find cheap games...

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,276 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Well I'm not concerned with games being boxed. Only that is arriving boxed is a japanese vertical force, the seller had a few boxes full of brand new virtual boy games. I got warioland for 18 euros including delivery. Seller seems a bit weird, was messaging me afterwards asking me to take his other VB games so hope it arrives ok, he does have good feedback.

Are the Virtual Boys region locked?

By virtue of only being available in JP & US format only I'm afraid. Afaik there's no region locking between the available regions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭ghostchant

They definitely not region locked, I've a couple of US games that play perfectly on my JP one.

Just picked up OoT in Smyths, as all Zelda games just have to be bought brand new...that be how it is.

Looked like a fairly senior guy behind the counter. No Hello, just a patronising comment about "You DO know this is for the 3DS only yeah?". No 'please' when giving me the total, no 'thank you' upon recieving the cash. A begrudged thank you when giving me my change.

What an ignorant, patronising toss pot whoever the bloke was. Smyths, you need to invest more in some basic staff to customer interaction training.

It might be that they had quite a few clueless parents or people buying OoT thinking it's a DS game and getting returns. Nintendo really haven't done a good job distinguishing the 3DS as a new system to the lay person, same with the WiiU.

Re: VB, I have the following,
    Red Alarm
    Vertical Force
    Warioland
    V-Tetris
    Baseball
    Mario Tennis
    That Bomberman puzzle thingy
    Galactic Pinball
    Golf

I had the Flashboy for it but found there was precious little I wanted that I didn't already have and the homebrew scene is not great. So I flogged it for over 100 on ebay, which is nice!

Oh I can understand the reason for asking. There's no excuse for the lack of basic common courtesy though.

I really want a flashboy now just to play bound high, supposedly it's really good.
