Not to give this anymore publicity than it already has, but if you have missed it so far over on C4, it starts tonight on TG4 at 11:25 bit late but a good start to the Halloween week.

Also if you just want to get into it straight away from start to finish and you haven't been able to check it out yet you can rent it from XtraVision for a week for 10euro.

Or go out and buy it on DVD for 50euro in any DVD retail outlet.

Or just go on to Amazon

Just after switching on to it, it's worth watching just for the theme song. I've seen all 2 seasons and would highly recommend it for anyone else.

The show of 2009. Brilliant. Not slow I heard a few people suggesting that it took a while to get into it, but it got straight in there. Great characters. Fantastic setting. Sookies character is a brilliant idea I wasn't expecting her to be a clairvoyant. "What are you?" I liked that question from Bill. The final scene in the bar with all the customers looking at them worked really well.

Scary, haunting, exciting and interesting. I might just go out to Xtravision and rent it out.

Too much nudity for my taste.

Yeah TBH there is but this is a show about Vampires and so with out the sex it would be quite pointless, it adds to the whole look and feel of the show.

I think if you can stop watching WIKABY :D and take some time to get into this you will like it even with the nudity and sex.

It's VERY talky and ponderous at times though. I've watched season 1 and 2 but the eps don't really lend themselves too well to rewatches, the talky scenes really drag and the episode length (nearly 1 hr each without adverts) is far too long. Looking back over the seasons there have been some fantastic moments and cliffhangers, but not too many episodes where I could definitely say my interest was held throughout the entire episode. The character of Tara is lumbered with two of the worst storylines I've ever seen in a scripted drama - an
exorcism in series 1 that lasts 4-5 episodes and a storyline with a crazy lady that somehow lasts the entire season 2
. It's still good though, and has some very memorable characters. But 11.45 on TG4? No hope of anyone watching that

    Also
anybody else think Season 2's cliffhanger should've centered around the incidents in Dallas? The Mary-Ann character's behaviour every week was incredibly repetitive and was a huge anti-climax for the season- once the egg appeared in Ep 11 I could not stop rolling my eyes.

MOD EDIT: Spoilers for season 1 are necessary too!

TG4 only have 2 ad breaks so that could lend to the charm of the show on TG4 unlike C4 which while showing it an hour earlier have tones more adverts. The shows is made for TV without adverts i.e. HBO, most HBO serials are either 30mins to 1hr long.

However they should really have just replaced Nip/Tuck their other Cable series on Monday nights with this, i.e. have it go out at 10:30.

Just watching LOST on DVD, the US networks have reduced their hour longs to 40 mins, 20mins of advertising during one show

I didn't think it was talky at all, perhaps the first episode is doing this show more justice than I expected.

I thought it introduced each of the characters really well, and didn't just rely on the Vampire storyline with Sookie's clairvoyance.

Is it repeated on TG4 another night?

Seems to be repeat on the 31st as they had initially put it down for Saturday nights, 23:10 this Saturday Halloween.

WOW I was thinking the same thing when I finished watching Season 2.
    Far far too talky

A question for those of you who have seen this series as its annoying me not knowing
is the bar owner a werewolf or something?

Was really sad at the end of last nights episode on Ch4
when Sookie's grandmother was found on the floor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

Really enjoying the series so far. C4 seem to take allot of ad breaks I was going to start catching up with it on C4, but it looks like I will stick with TG4 for the moment.

I don't think that the bar man could be a werewolf since I don't think they exist in this series I could be wrong but Sookie made a joke about them in the First Episode after she rescued Bill.

I didn't think much of the ending on TG4, it didn't really put Sookie in danger IMO. Episode 2.

Just started watching my "Box Set" of Series 1. The first episode was pornographic, which I thought was trying to make up for lack of content.

But on watching episode 6, I have to say, Jason cracks me up as does Tara and Lafayette, but I think the show would be good without the vampire connection. Seems to me like the show could be written without vampires... the main vampire, the curiously named "Bill", is more like a bad Elvis impersonator with fangs.

But still, the shows works somehow. Gonna keep on watching.

Oh! I missed last night. If it is going down that road then I think it won't be as good as I thought it would be.

Yeah I missed it the first time I seen it on Ch4...hmmmm.... probably nothing but just thought it odd...

Finally got my telly sorted (moved recently) & saw episode 5 on C4 last night. I really love this show. There is some graphic sex scenes but I don't think it overwhelms the program & it's sort of part of the story & the grittiness of it.

I'm nearly through the books, Lafayette & Tara weren't big characters in them but I like how they've fleshed them out in the show. Great acting for all characters so far me thinks.

I'm glad it's a couple weeks behind on TG4 so can catch one or two I missed. Can't afford the box set at the moment & I've been dying to see this series since got into the books.

I really love the Sookie character from the books so I hope she develops more as the show goes on, Anna Paquin was a fantastic choice to play her as she's kind of quirky herself.

And the atmosphere of the series. It wouldn't be much of a Vampire story without sex.

I don't know if the series goes into it but the books are full of all types of supernatural creatures - werewolves, shape shifters, witches, fairies, demons etc. Of course, they are done with a total modern & integrating twist so it really adds to the whole story & underworld of it all.

I hope this all shows up in the series somewhere as there are some cracking characters involved in all that in the books.

I am guessing the Girl that Jason thought he had killed is a shapeshifter? But we didn't get to see where or how she died? Only on episode 2.

I watched the first show on Channel 4 then defected to tg4 because of the endless breaks on c4, just a pity it clashes with Rescue me on Monday nights:rolleyes: It is repeated Saturday nights on tg4 but its on really late! Slow to get going though.

I missed it on Monday again. :(

Really liking this series regardless of how slow it is moving. However I am looking forward to see the shape shifters and werewolves if they start appearing.

The Sheriff and the Detective are great.

The last 2 episodes haven't be that great, The Funeral and Sookie's brother goes to the Vampire Bar. They both have been a bit slow. I am guessing it gets better from the other posters here. But I think it has gone the other way.

Glad to see a thread on this show, I've really gotten into it over the past few weeks and it's not normally the kind of thing I'd watch.
I don't think it's that slow moving at all.

I didn't either but the last 2 episodes that aired on TG4 weren't as good as the first few.

I assume the werewolf was around in the last episode but that wasn't really explained.

The exorcism seemed a bit rushed. I did think that Tara's mother was excellent in the show.

I just finished watching the Two Series of this. It's good enough, some holes in the story but it's entertaining. Have to say Ryan Kwanten is hilarious in it. Cant believe he's the same guy that played Vinny in Home And Away.

From a quick Google, it was indeed!

12 episodes.. standard length for a HBO series. Said it once and I'll say it again, these 22 - 24 episode series are for the birds - too much filler. Every series should be 12 - 16 episodes tops!

If you have FX (on Sky), it'll be on from February. Nice teaser trailer here!

    12 episodes from HBO = 12 hours
22 episodes from Network TV = 14 to 15 hours (they only run for 40mins)

Cable TV Drama/Comedy is just far better than the networks.
Sookie I don't mind.. Tara on the other hand!

True. But Tara isn't supposed to be liked.

I thought that either C4 or TG4 would just run series 2 straight after series 1.

I hear FX is coming to UPC next month :)

Good thing I have Sky so!
I like Tara's character on the show, she's nothing like that in the books & features very infrequently. I guess they wanted another strong female character who has story lines. The actress who plays her mother is brilliant - mad as a brush.

Can't wait to see more of Eric in Series 2, definitely one of the more interesting character - in the books at least.

Tara is one of my favourite characters on the show; I like that she's so loud and obnoxious, makes her a fun character.

I've missed the last 2 episodes on TG4 but I'm probably gonna end up buying Season 1 on DVD some time soon so hopefully I'll catch up before TG4 shows Season 2.

    Is this worth sticking with?

My girlfriend borrowed this from a friend who said to watch a few episodes before giving up. I've watched 6 episodes now, and I'm just not warming to it at all. I'm struggling to think of anything I really like about it tbh.

Will I end up liking Sookie (worst name in TV history) at some point? Because I have no empathy for her character, the scene where she sat at the table and ate that pie just seemed like a bunch of pretentious crap.

I'd say my taste is diverse, so that shouldn't be an issue. The last two shows I really enjoyed were Glee and The Wire.

So, should I stick it out till the end of S1?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

6 episodes in you may as well. I think season one started out well (I seem to be the only one) and finished well. Most seemed to think that they just got into it after the 3rd of 4th episode. Some of the reveals are a bit slow in coming.

I think Tara's and Scookie's Bother's storyline are better than scookies, well they provide the most comic relief. Even as annoying as Tara can be, I have met people like Tara.

I think they should have used the Sheriff and the Detective more, and really investigated the murders, I felt that most of the detective work was left to Sookie and Bill. And it should have had more clues during the series as to who the murderer was, I know it wasn't a Whodunnit but the final reveal made it out to be that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,943 ✭✭✭Burning Eclipse

Finished the first season, don't think I'll be coming back for more. There are better things to be watching tbh. Not the worst thing I've seen though, being fair.

Also, I thought of a few things I like about the show. Eric, who you see more of in the 2nd half of the series, Sam (although his jealousy grows tiresome) and the theme song, which is just excellent.

Still have absolutely no interest in Sookie, and that's probably why I won't watch S2.

I'm addicted to this show! Love Lafayette, Eric and Tara!
    TBT2_Shelter_Seconds.jpg
Season 2 is back on FX 26th Feb so TG4 might be after that cos FX showed S1 way before TG4 or Channel 4.
