J,
I am lost a bit , so many posts about different things ?

What are u trying to do exactly ?

Tell me these things :

Iphone 2g or 3g ?
Current firmware version ?
What sim do you want to use ?
When was the last time you used iTunes(officially to update your firmware)
Did you ever jailbreak your phone before.
What is the current state of your phone ?

Hi,

Apologies for the confusing posts. I am finding hard as I have a wee bit of knowledge but I wouldnt know that a .zip file or a .ispw file made a difference and things like that.

I was trying to just update from 2.1 to 3.something just to use PING as it wouldnt let me download it unless I had 3.0 or more. In doing so I have mistakingly read or have been mistakingly lead into blocking my iPhone.

Iphone 2g or 3g ? 2G

Current firmware version ? I bought my phone at version 1.1.1 in the states in Dec 2007 already jailbroken. I have updated to 1.1.4 and 2.1 in recent times. Last week I tried to get from 2.1 to the latest version but I got confused and mistakingly thought it was ok now to plug into iTunes and hit restore and then try a jailbreak. I think I was following a post and I think the poster forgot to say do shift restore.

What sim do you want to use ? I am a Vodafone costumer.

When was the last time you used iTunes(officially to update your firmware) I have never officialy used iTunes bar the latest when i blocked it!

Did you ever jailbreak your phone before. Well, I used pwnage to get to 2.1.
using cydia etc..

What is the current state of your phone ? At the moment my iphone has iTunes logo with usb cable and 'slide for emerency' phone calls only on the front and I cant do anything at all other than make emergency call. Absolutely nada!

When plugged to iTunes it gives the message
'The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported'
'Only compatible Sim cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visits the supported Carrier's store to receive a replacement SIM card'.

Appreciate the patience guys

Jamegg,
You said you done a restore (iTunes) just 2 weeks ago , this would have "officially" updated your firmware .
You are more than likely now running 3.1.2 which would have also upgraded your baseband to 05.11.07 .
This would have rendered your jailbreak and more importantly your unlock useless .
The information iTunes is telling you is the give away "invalid sim" etc"

OK if this is the case , Whats your options......
There are 3 things that spring to mind but its important you try them 1 at a time . otherwise it can get confusing .

1.)You said you have a 02 sim , have you tried this to see if you get past the first screen.

2.)You could jb with[URL="http://blackra1n.com/
"]Blackra1n and try Bootneuterto unlock (blacksnow unlock is not an option cause you have a 2g) , I have never seen nor used bootnauter but its worth a try.

3.)If your 02 sim gives the same results as you vodafone you could be in a "recovery mode loop" and you can try [URL="
http://ttapple.net"]iH8snow and use the "recovery mode loop" fix

Try the 02 sim first and let me know .

The information iTunes is telling you is the give away "invalid sim" etc" I mean officially as in buying an iPhone from an O2 store and using the iPhone the way apple wishes everybody uses the iPhone! I thought that was your meaning of officially. In that case, I did officially restore through iTunes

OK if this is the case , Whats your options......

1.)You said you have a 02 sim , have you tried this to see if you get past the first screen. I use vodafone and I only bought an O2 SIM card last week after I blocked my iPhone hoping and O2 could would activate the phone. This did not work

2.)You could jb with[URL="http://blackra1n.com/
"]Blackra1n and try Bootneuterto unlock (blacksnow unlock is not an option cause you have a 2g) , I have never seen nor used bootnauter but its worth a try. I did use blackra1n and it did not work for me. Would doing blackra1n with firefox make any difference , do you think?? I will try the bootnauter now

3.)If your 02 sim gives the same results as you vodafone you could be in a "recovery mode loop" and you can try [URL="

it does give the same results so will try this also

Try the 02 sim first and let me know .[/ does not work. same results as vodafone sim!

Cheers mixed nuts, hope I have some luck now!

EDIT: link for iH8snow does not work .

Blackra1n basicly ran and gave the 'make it rain' pop up etc and then when it finished i got a pop up in iTunes saying something like, 'iTunes detects a phone in recovery mode. you need to restore it to continue'.

I just noticed this on iclarified......... The BlackRa1n jailbreak will work with the latest 3.1.2 firmware; however, it will not hacktivate your iPhone. This means that if you are not on an official Apple approved carrier BlackRa1n cannot activate it.

I will try suss out iH8sn0w now thanks

Followed instructions here http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4302 to upgrade from 2.1 to 3.0.1 on a 2G iPhone.

Shift + Restored using the 3.0.1 firmware.

Now getting "Unable to recognize specified IPSW" when using redsn0w.

Where to from here?
