Hey guys I was reading around but got kinda lost ! So I'll throw my phone info
up here and can anyone tell me what to do ?

Everynow and then the phone just hangs, lets say I have it charging then when I unplug it the "slide to unlock" screen appears but it just hangs, then I have to hold the power off button for an age to turn it off any ideas on whats causeing this ? The issue also happens if the alarm is used the phone will hang as well, lead me to think I need an up-date, Phone was got in the USA when the iphone was launched  and has been unlocked.

Version 1.1.3 (4A93) Model MA712LL Modem Firmware 04.02.13_G, I can't recall what software I used to unlock the phone it was a good while ago !

In short Im looking to update but unsure how to, I dont really mind if things get lost bar contacts.

Hi mate, for starters no need to be afraid unlocking the iphone is a simple job. I would say you should back up your contacts onto your pc/laptop either way to have them safe.

You can find all the information for unlocking on: http://www.iclarified.com/tutorials/iphone/index.php

DON'T UPDATE TO 3.1 SOFTWARE AS THIS CAN'T BE UNLOCKED YET!!!!(possibly not for a long time as it changes the baseband)

Is it 2g or 3g??

Any Questions shout there will always be someone to help on boards!!

Hey thanks for the reply, the phone is 2g, tbh I dont know which one to pick, do I update from itunes then use and unlock ?

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

NO.

updating from itunes is a sure fire way to turning your iphone into a ipod touch.

what i'd do if i was you would be...

google for a 3.1 firmware that is custom built - i.e. has been built using pwnagetool that's a program that's mac only.

once you have that you boot up itunes, hold alt and click restore, point to that custom firmware and install it.

and then there you have it you'll have the new firmware on your phone.

This thread was started literally 20 mins after I turned my phone into a useless piece of crap

I posted on another one of the iPhone threads here and got no reply. I got confused reading through all the pages and mistakinly gathered you could now just update through itunes and re-jailbreak.

I dont even have an ipod touch from it now. Just a picture of a disk and an arrow pointing to it with a USB cable. On itunes it says this sim card is unathorised, it is an O2 sim too :(

Never have I been so angry !

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭anoble66

You must of done something wrong because if your using an O2 SIM then there should be no problem upgrading to 3.1.2. And yes, it can be jailbroken again even though you upgraded via Itunes. Download www.blackra1n.com, run it and it should jaibreak it for you. Google search for instructions if your not sure, plenty of help out there.

I opened up this and didnt release i had my iphone connected now its locked again I was on vodafone how do i unlock this now crap anyway

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 736 ✭✭✭darsar

I was on Vodafone when the lock happened. I got that Steve Jobs cartoon with the russian speech bubble so I restored via itunes. Then it just locked so I bought an O2 sim for €10 today and still wont budge.

Only thing I can do is make an emergency call.

How do I apply this www.blackra1n.com if the iPhone is a brick?

EDIT: Sorry Anoble66 just realised you mentioned to google instructions.

I doen the same thing but got it fixed tho just run black ra1n on your desk top make sure the iphone is connected to the pc just double click black ra1n it will tell you its finished unlocking your iphone that should be that, just to note mine was light up with a picture of itunes and a usb on the front so might be different tho try it ya cant do any more harm.Good luck

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭anoble66

ah right....sorry but you could be screwed. If you updated via Itunes the baseband will have updated mean you can no longer unlock. You can still jailbreak using Blackra1n but not unlock..

This is what I am getting. I run blackra1n and then after it reboots my iphone the same USB cable and disk come back with just the option of emergency calls.

After googling instruction i'm pretty sure I should be just greeted with an option to install cydia again?!

Hi Mate is it coming up with "different sim detected" or "sim not detected"

I guess its not different sim detected as you should have been able to get going with the o2 sim.(try the jailbreak/unlock from the start again )

If its sim not detected you will need to ssh into your iphone and change the lockdown folder.

Also use http://www.iclarified.com/tutorials/iphone/index.php.
Its the best site out there for instructions etc...

Final questions:
Model 2g or 3g
last software update? 3.0 etc

Hi Fridge,

It is 2g and I had updated as far as 2.2.1 the last time and was trying to get up to 3.0.1 when i locked it by mistake!

It says 'The SIM Card inserted in this iPhone does not apear to be supported' but excuse my stupidity I do not know what 'ssh into your iPhone and change the lockdown folder' would mean I have to do.I think ssh is something you install on the iPhone but the phone won't let me do anything bar make emergency calls. I just shows usb cable and itunes logo on the front screen. Double dutch to me :(

Remember I pressed restore in iTunes without holding shift and then i got the smirky Steve Jobs cartoon (http://www.perivision.net/wordpress/?p=248). I assume i updated to the newest version and apple copped my phone was jailbroken so they blocked it...

Thanks for your patience

I have used the hole making a pwnage folder with downloads before but I can only get as far as step two on the link provided because when my itunes finds my iphone connected i just get the message 'the SIM in this iPhone does not appear to be supported' so I have no option to hold shift and restore!

Unless downloading redsn0w give me this option?

hi jamegg/tack. was in the same boat...managed to accidentialy upgrade my 2g phone to the lastest firmware 3.1.2(same day as it was released) a month ago and locked itself. couldnt find anyway to unlock via iclarfied...back then.

You'll have to downgrade the firmware first....best to use 3.0 even.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWQeJpibTfY

From there use redsnow to unlock
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EthSLEOUzmQ

Should work, sounds like i was experiencing the same kinda issues as you, would only allow us to make emergency calls.

Hi Tack. If your still having issues, could try pm me......i live in vancouver.

Hi Newbie,

I am in the middle of doing the QuickPwn. On the 'browse for firmwire' step in am getting a message 'The corect IPSW will have a name beginning with iPhone1,1_3.1.2' .

However when it loads this it comes back with an error saying 'Firmwire error string' ??

I have iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Retore.ipsw in the slot

EDIT: realised its what you want to download in felixbruns not what firmwire your phone is on. so i need 3.0!

I had the same problems as you. Decided one day to update my unlocked/jailbroken iPhone 2g which was on 2.0 firmware. Plugged it into iTunes to upgrade to the 3.1 and halfway into the restore kept getting an error. Now the phone wont boot up or restore, so is now a useless paperweight on my desk :(

Will end up throwing it in the bin.

Im trying at the monemt to QuickPWN mine but the quickpwn wont search for anything less than 3.1.2 in my computer even though I have 3.0 downloaded it wont let me quickpwn my iphone with it. getting the 'firmwire error string' message

jamegg - to downgrade your firmware, there should be no need to use quickpwn(though it does say it on the vid). No error messages appeared for myself. Just hit shift & restore in itunes and choose the 3.0 software.

download the firmware from the felixbruns website on firefox, as it downloads it in a .ispw file. while explorer downloads it in a zip file.

:mad::(:mad::( :pac:

Just did this and was really hopeful. Was restoring and extractiong software and then after 5-10 mins of this it popped up
' your iPhone had been restored to factory settings.....' then back to the same ituneslogo with a usb cable on front and slide bar only letting you make emergency calls.

I dont know if I am being stupid or jst my iphone is locked and nothing can be done because I have tried alot!

Im on itunes 9.0 and downloaded 3.0 software through firefox. it is an .ispw file.

Somebody mentioned new baseband that cant be downgraded from yet. Do you think this is the case?

It was Octoer 25th I plugged in my iPhone and hit restore that all this happened!

J,
I am lost a bit , so many posts about different things ?

What are u trying to do exactly ?

Tell me these things :

Iphone 2g or 3g ?
Current firmware version ?
What sim do you want to use ?
When was the last time you used iTunes(officially to update your firmware)
Did you ever jailbreak your phone before.
What is the current state of your phone ?

Hi,

Apologies for the confusing posts. I am finding hard as I have a wee bit of knowledge but I wouldnt know that a .zip file or a .ispw file made a difference and things like that.

I was trying to just update from 2.1 to 3.something just to use PING as it wouldnt let me download it unless I had 3.0 or more. In doing so I have mistakingly read or have been mistakingly lead into blocking my iPhone.

Iphone 2g or 3g ? 2G

Current firmware version ? I bought my phone at version 1.1.1 in the states in Dec 2007 already jailbroken. I have updated to 1.1.4 and 2.1 in recent times. Last week I tried to get from 2.1 to the latest version but I got confused and mistakingly thought it was ok now to plug into iTunes and hit restore and then try a jailbreak. I think I was following a post and I think the poster forgot to say do shift restore.

What sim do you want to use ? I am a Vodafone costumer.

When was the last time you used iTunes(officially to update your firmware) I have never officialy used iTunes bar the latest when i blocked it!

Did you ever jailbreak your phone before. Well, I used pwnage to get to 2.1.
using cydia etc..

What is the current state of your phone ? At the moment my iphone has iTunes logo with usb cable and 'slide for emerency' phone calls only on the front and I cant do anything at all other than make emergency call. Absolutely nada!

When plugged to iTunes it gives the message
'The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported'
'Only compatible Sim cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visits the supported Carrier's store to receive a replacement SIM card'.

Appreciate the patience guys

Jamegg,
You said you done a restore (iTunes) just 2 weeks ago , this would have "officially" updated your firmware .
You are more than likely now running 3.1.2 which would have also upgraded your baseband to 05.11.07 .
This would have rendered your jailbreak and more importantly your unlock useless .
The information iTunes is telling you is the give away "invalid sim" etc"

OK if this is the case , Whats your options......
There are 3 things that spring to mind but its important you try them 1 at a time . otherwise it can get confusing .

1.)You said you have a 02 sim , have you tried this to see if you get past the first screen.

2.)You could jb with[URL="http://blackra1n.com/
"]Blackra1n and try Bootneuterto unlock (blacksnow unlock is not an option cause you have a 2g) , I have never seen nor used bootnauter but its worth a try.

3.)If your 02 sim gives the same results as you vodafone you could be in a "recovery mode loop" and you can try [URL="
http://ttapple.net"]iH8snow and use the "recovery mode loop" fix

Try the 02 sim first and let me know .

I thought that was your meaning of officially. In that case, I did officially restore through iTunes

Just read your edit try this for ih8snow ..http://ttapple.net

Blackra1n basicly ran and gave the 'make it rain' pop up etc and then when it finished i got a pop up in iTunes saying something like, 'iTunes detects a phone in recovery mode. you need to restore it to continue'.

I just noticed this on iclarified......... The BlackRa1n jailbreak will work with the latest 3.1.2 firmware; however, it will not hacktivate your iPhone. This means that if you are not on an official Apple approved carrier BlackRa1n cannot activate it.

I will try suss out iH8sn0w now thanks

Followed instructions here http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4302 to upgrade from 2.1 to 3.0.1 on a 2G iPhone.

Shift + Restored using the 3.0.1 firmware.

Now getting "Unable to recognize specified IPSW" when using redsn0w.

Where to from here?
