Licence granted !

Having read several posts here about the ridiculous delays some people faced in getting licences granted, just wanted to say that I have been pretty impressed as to how quickly mine has been processed , even though its was just for an unrestricted firearm.

I put in an application for a licence (first time application) for an o/u
12 g shotgun to the local Garda Station on 25th September , then got an acknowledgement from the Superintendent on 8th October saying that the application was received and that that it would be evaluated within a maximum period of 3 months i.e. by 7th January 2010.

Was a bit pissed of with the prospect of waiting for 3 months but was pleasantly surprised when a letter came today saying that the licence had been granted. I shot down to the local Post Office immediately with my 80 Euros , only to be told that they couldn't accept payment over the counter and that I would have to post a cheque plus the Certificate Grant Notice Letter to An Post FGN, P.O. Box 60, Kilrush ,County Clare and that my licence would be sent out within 7 days. I'm in Cork so really don't know why it has to be sent to Clare but under the circumstances I'm not complaining...

Then I found an information slip (which I had miseed earlier) which was in the same envelope as the letter from the Gardai ,which says '' The possibility to make payments at post offices (accross the counter) will become avilable on an incremental basis from early November and details of each post office that is in a position to accept payments across the counter will be udated on www.garda.ie or can be obtained via the Firearms Licensing enquiry line 1890 333 555.
