    Resubbed for a month.
Just sorted out my hotbars and killed a few goblins last night. Also walked passed some big clan advertisement (ANG) just outside a starter city. Think this is one of the perks of holding the sea fortresses.

Interface is allot better... Chat seemed kinda dead but I did log on at 2am.
Going to start leveling up today.
    I left with 1.01 Pole Arm Mastery , 50ish 2 Handed Axes, 30ish Archery , 25 Fire Magic.

The EU1 Clan recruitment offical forum seems to be missing
Anyone recommend a cool bunch of guys to join up with ?

You need to go to your account settings and tie in your game account with your forum account in order to see the subscriber only forums. I think thats why you couldnt see the recruitment forum.

Yeah the ANG thing depends on what guild owns what fortress. They took the fortresses last time at like 5am with little to no resistance as far as I know.

Not been on in a week or so now and wont be back till thursday probly.

Glad you resubbed. I would recommend you stick with archery and melee for now. If you dont have any elemental magics or arcane etc, then pick up Destroyer or some other Melee specialisations asap.

    What race are you?

Polarms had a speed nerf with the expansion (since they hit the damage cap almost naturally). They are still good in the right hands but most people will probly tell you to drop it. Infact, 95% of people I'd say have picked up a new melee skill because of the speed nerf + the knockback effect still being as annoying as before.
Its your highest skill though, so for PvP you might want to buy disabling blow for polarms, you can still use the starter polarm afaik. If you're Alfar you might wanna think twice about Greataxes. They have the shortest reach but arent totally redundant.. .they're just not the best choice and only having 50 means its not too late to switch to something else.

If you want a nice hint, you could try farm and train on Oak Lords. They might be the most profitable in the end.

They drop and skin for a lot of wood/timber + can drop steedgrass and can skin for Quality 1 Quartz. They might hit too hard depending on how done you are, but they are great.

Archery them from a distance dodging their shots as best you can and then finish off with melee if there is more than 2. If its just 1 spawned you should be able to solo it down. Even use Fire Transmuted weapons to speed it up.
They dont drop gold but the other stuff sells for it nicely. Quartz wood and timber is always in demand.

Im Ork. Was thinking about doing the Title quests are they any use ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 925 ✭✭✭KoKane

Well I guess so, since you're gonna be out killing some mobs anyhow, might aswell make it something from a title quest too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 578 ✭✭✭neilk32

I wish I was an ork :( The title quests are definitly worth it, one of the guys in my clan started them out a few days ago with 252 health he's now on the last part and he has 270 hp and nearly 50 polearm mastery from 1 so I think it's definitly worth it for less developed characters.

You should take all of the title quests except the wisdom ones. You can do the wisdom quests later on if you are in to crafting but when you are starting out it's not worth it as the stuff you craft costs more than the rewards atm.

Don't do the skeleton quest until you have two title quests asking you to kill skeletons. I think it's the second part of the dexterity quest that asks you to kill a bunch of skellies aswell.

You may aswell do the title quests as you'll be killing plenty of those mobs anyway starting out but try not to get too focused on quests. They are really just a side to the game and are mostly fluff. I still haven't done the majority of the quests I had when I started out playing.

Normally you should be aiming for a mob where you can level a particular skill quickly or one that drops something you need. Like if you want to level melee then make sure you are going to fight a mob you can melee down at a nice pace without getting your ass kicked every time. If you want to level archery then pick a mob that drops enough arrows so you don't have to buy them. The same goes for mobs that drops regs for magic.

If you want a mixed clan with both newbies and vets you can check out http://darkfall.luxarcana.org.uk and mention my IGN (Fionn).

so is it still near impossible to buy this game, back when it came out you had to do a rain dance every week and hope to god you were around when they decided to release keys for sale

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭Da Bounca

Hahaha, jesus that was some state of affairs, spamming f5 for literally hours on end to try get in.

I think it's easy to get an account now, in fact i'd say they're dyin for players. You thinking about giving it a go Jag?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭jaggeh

yeah just downloading the client now

    **nm im impatient

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭Da Bounca

    Good work to you sir.

Not in it at the moment, PC isn't up to scratch. Plan on getting back into it asap though. I will say this; It's good to know people in the game before going into it. It's a beast of a mistress to master on your own. I'd say hook up with some of the posters from here if you can. It is a harsh enviroment. If you're unafilliated, then your everybody's prey.

Hope you enjoy it man. In my opinion it's the #1 mmo out there. Your heart is in your mouth every combat situation you get into.

I hope you bought from somebodys link on here xD Maybe join NEW if your brand new or fionn's guild takes new characters I think. If you are having trouble just pm me ingame neilk bergane :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 111 ✭✭nin2010

Same goes for me for any Irish newbies. Give me a tell on my IGN Fionn Lachlaenn and I'll help you out with any questions you have. The game seems very different in the beginning and you'll be right clicking to swivel your camera and end up with the UI on screen and spawning your mount a mile away from you when you first get it. The game doesn't really help you out with how to play it so you'll need to talk to people who have been playing a while to get your info.

ive got most of my combat skills up to the late 20's early 30's now

gotten ganked once, although almost twice except the guy chased me into the guards and got wacked

i got some nice gear off him.

    Wow I hope you're joking :)

    You dont have the game.

You buy the game and give AV the money.

    or

You buy the game giving AV the money and AV giving a % to the dude you bought it through.

You'd have to be seriously bitter to not want to choose that option, just because someone benefits from it :P

Glad you've joined. Anyone else joined without saying anything?

Getting Melee and Archery up would be my first recommendation, since the higher they are, the easier the mobs get to a certain extent.

When you get 50 melee and archery, try out oak lords if you can. And ALWAYs bring a skinning knife. Oak Lords are really profitable. I just melee them down in about 10-15 seconds. Need to do good dmg though and wear scale armour or better.

hahaha welcome to darkfall. I'd say he was pissed :D

Lesson in that too. Dont get tunnel vision just because someone is low on hp. And NPC zap towers rape your ass.

It's been a while for me, but I remember that while consciously I'm thinking living is more important than a kill, subconsciously and invariably in actual fact, a kill is greater than dying. Gear was so easy to come by if you are in any sort of decent Clan and dying so meaningless (other than the embarassment) that I took more risks than I should. The skill (and luck) being that you kill more than you die. But the wins where you could just have as easily lost if you didn't do something better than the other guy, were the most exhilarating. God I miss Darkfall. :)

I'm sensing a resub in my near future. :p

  • Registered Users Posts: 925 ✭✭✭KoKane

    Cool, you should.

Its a shame they released it so early. If it was only released now with its current form, it'd be doing far better. Most people are returning anyhow, its just slowly atm.

Alright. I resubbed and reinstalled last night. Time for name dropping, if anyone has a decentish Clan please send me a PM or post here and I'll try get in. ;)

Get in touch with Neilk Bergane or Sir Forgotten in game. They live out of Bloodscar at the center of the map. The Liandri Mining Corporation is their name. Them and a few others.

They farm Devils a fair bit so that would be great for you to get back into the game.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 4,560 Mod ✭✭✭✭Ivan

Neither are available in-game atm. I'll try again in an hour or two. Bloodscar is pretty close to where I used to operate out of. Really like the area and know it pretty well, so this would suit me perfectly. ;)

So now we know where they live and where they go to farm lots of cash and nice loot. Good thing I'm not evil enough to use this information. :P

If the referral scheme gave players game time i would be ok with that, but giving cash in hand brings out the worst in people and im against that kinbd of thing.

its not about being bitter i just disagree with the practice.

Anyhow, going is slow. i dont really want to follow a video on how to get from A to Z in as short a time as possible, wheres the fun in that?

i mis-spent about 1000g but im starting to save cash now to fix what needs fixing. is there a better way than farming goblins to get cash early on?

is it a lot better now yeah?
The things that turned me off before were:
The biggest concentration of players were afks being beaten to raise stats in a clan city...I saw they increased skill gains for hitting mobs, but did that get rid of this?
Hackers...I got the impression certain hacks would be undetectable, thanks to them being on the clientside (radar for example). I saw a couple of people who definitely were hacking (super fast speed)
Exploits: Wallkicking...there were places where a drake could kill high level mobs with loads of loot by bashing them through a wall, or the sid eof an upturned boat. It was also clans that were going on how this was unacceptable and they'd never do it that I saw doing it...They then changed their stance to the others are doing it so we have to...
There were a lot of twats in the game too...plenty of nice people, but the twats tended to be more vocal.

Do people still see these sorts of things..?

People are mostly out fighting mobs now as skill gains are much quicker that way. Some spells are levelled in cities like confusion etc which can't be used on mobs but otherwise its very minimal.

They changed mob AI so mountkicking doesn't work anymore, mobs don't bug out so often anymore either so difficult to exploit them afaik.

Hackers are banned pretty quick nowadays, a guy I know quit playing and apparantly he says tried out some hacks for a day before he did and when he decided to come back discovered his account was banned. I'm not sure how detectable radar hacks are etc, no one I know uses them or at least admits to using them.

More money to be made with a group really.

Solo I dunno, maybe hobgoblins or revenant mobs.
AI was updated so you cant really perch any more.

If you have enough arrows and food though you can do any mob close to your level (unless its almost immune to them).

Really though, join a guild that has some PvE groups going out.
