    Counter the argument, don't ban the discussion. Its the approach we've adopted and its worked well for years. Pointing out the flaws in an argument has value. LookingFor is right, we're not removed from the arguments in some nice ivory tower, its personal for us hence we don't allow these "debates" in other threads, but this thread was aimed towards discussion.

    The thread started as a direct question, it was dragged to discussion by those that wanted to "discuss" it in a different way.

    Maybe in cases like that the thread could be split, with derived discussion permitted in a branched-off thread and the original left for its original purpose.

    by your argument, i should demand that in every sunday school/religion class/communion and confirmation class, each sentence uttered should be followed with "but many people feel that there is absolutely no scientific basis for a word of this...". you know, in the interest of things not being biased.
