  • Registered Users Posts: 4,946 ✭✭✭red_ice

I just found out today that i've been accepted into year 3 in september. Im coming from BCFE's digital media course and im ecstatic! How many people are in each year? I've a feeling im going to get lost in the place.

What areas does interactive design/development focus on?

also, whats the story with getting into a sports society?

    Thanks!

There were no exams, however it was continual assessment. Personally, i found the work easy, and i got it finished long before it was due. Then again, there were some very important lessons i learned there regarding working with other people and organizational skills. I learned alot about 3d and design for corporate and web.

Theory shouldn't be something to put you off an interest.

Hey red_ice, congrats on getting in.

I'm going into 4th year myself, there'd be in or around 30 or less people in each year. You'll know everyone by name and work with most of them at some point. People are pretty laid back, it's a cool course, there's some really cool people in it. Lecturers are dead sound too. I know some people going into third year, I'll be sure to tell em to steal your lunch money ;)

And don't worry about getting lost, it's all in one building. Room numbers on all the doors, and aside from the media lab and radio studio all the CDM classes are downstairs. Will you be in for the first year introduction and orientation? I should hopefully be working them so grab me if you've got any questions.

Interactive design/developement focus on a primary goal of a building a website and some motion graphics as an intro movie to the site and a second class project.

    Thanks misa!

When is the orientation? All the info i have is from marian (nice lady), "if you dont hear from us by the first of september, give me a call".

Orientation is in September, yeah, sometime in the first few weeks :) it's really handy, I think they do try to include everyone who's incoming, it's the best way to introduce everyone to the system. But yeah, you'll either hear from them or you should hound them. And then hound me on the day :)

Something like that. You'll find me I'm sure - that's if I get the job! Haha

Just heard word the inductions will be running from the 2nd of September onwards, so you know to call if they forget to contact you before then!

I have it as my first choice, hoping to get 300 points in my fetac, not sure if itl be enough. I haven't been called for an interview tho? is that just for mature students ye?

  • Registered Users Posts: 147 ✭✭Misa-san

I wouldn't worry. There were people getting calls the day before induction! Don't give up hope - there's still plenty time :)

I applied as a mature student alright. Have the points for the Leaving Cert and Fetac as well, so I'm confident. Anyone know what the story with a language is?

  • Registered Users Posts: 147 ✭✭Misa-san

Generally (unless something has drasticly changed) language is Fresh it German or you can take AV Technology instead. They don't make that very clear in the syllabus "graph". I hate that thing. Anyone who met me at the RDS this year got one with my drawings in it ... fixing it, of course.

So I don't have to do a language? I was hoping for Spanish if I did. I studied French and German and I still speak more Spanish than both of those combined.

  • Registered Users Posts: 147 ✭✭Misa-san

No, you don't have to take a language. But unfortunately Spanish isn't on offer. Maybe ask, because European Studies do take it and it's in conjunction with them the language is taught, but more than likely it's French, German or AV Tech. That's how it's been for the last few years.

Got accepted this morning, so happy days! Thanks for the info, I think it will be AV technology for me.

Congratulations! See you during inductions! :P

Thanks. could u estimate how many points i wud need to get. i knw its between 300-400 bu wat would i need to be safe? thanks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 114 ✭✭spikeprint

I had 310 points, and the guy interviewing me said this could be enough to get in. There could be extra applying this year, so I don't know if it will go up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 147 ✭✭Misa-san

In the last couple years it didn't get hirer than 315/320. Around that should be fine. I had more then that, so the higher the better will give you the best chance. It's hard to say though ...

One piece of advice I'd give you for day 1 is to specialise. The one big flaw with the course is that it is too broad.

I'll agree with my former "survivor" here and say this is something I would advise you to do

But have fun, enjoy the course as it's lots of informative information and really fun, and get to grips with as much as you can.

You'll also find lots of Societies, such as Photography and Radio etc.. have close links with the course so there's ways of continuing your interest beyond course work and proficiency. As with anything in Media the idea is to just embrace everything with an open mind and a positive attitude.

I still REALLY wanna do this, but I've decided on a different route of courses. I keep comin back though!

    Its on the CAO anyways

Sucks they made it ab inito 4 years! AV ftw :(

It's around 320, so anything over that will give you a pretty good chance :)

Same. The higher your points are, the more relaxed you can be about getting a place. Being honest, I'm sure there are people who'll get 320 and will get a place, unless demand has seriously gone up this year. The points never seem to jump that drastically.
