    Congratulations you have ears.

Flaming Lips are 90's band, actually from late 80's!

This is true. But I just think that in the 70's this was the best decade because there was a hell of alot more artists that are more inspirational or technically better than recording artists these days. Im not saying theres not any as im a huge Muse, Biffy, Bon Iver, KOL fan. but I do know in ten years or so when I have kids if I give them a few records to stick on will I hand them over the Strokes? the libertines the artic monkeys albums instead of a Zeppelin album a Dylan record or Neil Young album with some Nirvana and Guns N Roses. I know what wins for me.. Not this 00's anyway.

My mistake mate, sorry. Been listening to their new record so much this last week that I just instinctively put them into this generation. Schoolboy error though!

Picking just three is extremely difficult, but I went with:

    Radiohead - In Rainbows
    Cat Power - The Greatest
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Dig!!! Lazarus, Dig!!!

Others I considered were Radiohead - Kid A, Arcade Fire - Funeral, M.I.A. - Kala and The Breeders - Mountain Battles.

    Radiohead - Kid A

LCD Soundsystem - Sound Of Silver
    Arcade Fire - Funeral
    KOL - Aha Shake Heartbreak

Radiohead, Burial and Josh Ritter could just as easily be in there but gotta pick 3!

It took a while to choose but came down to these 3. Solely based on enjoyment of listening to the albums

1: The Streets - Original Pirate Material
Fantastic album, not necessarily vocally or rhythmically but a wonderful insight into Mike Skinners life and times in the gritty urban concrete jungle of Birmingham.

2: Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
I cannot fault a single song on the album.

    3: Burial - Untrue
Amazing sounds, blew me away the first time I heard it.

Other honourable mentions would include The Decemberists - The Crane Wife, Roisin Murphy - Overpowered, Fight Like Apes – Fight Like Apes and the Mystery of the Golden Medallion, M83 – Saturdays = Youth, Arcade Fire – Funeral, Kings of Leon – Because of the Times and Death from Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine.
    Soooo much more though!!

Myself and my housemate tried to predict the end-of-decade lists.
We expect Radiohead,Wilco,TV On The Radio,Modest Mouse,The National,Sufjan Stevens and Yeah Yeah Yeahs to come out of them very well, with Bright Eyes,Iron & Wine,The Libertines and Dizzee Rascal crawling into the odd Top 10.

Ryan Adams and The Cardinals - Cold Roses
    Jay-Z - The Black Album

    MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
    Kasabian - Kasabian
Kings of Leon - Aha Shake Heartbreak

so many of them but i'd say they're about my favourite!

Yeah, I found it really hard to chose between that album and Chutes Too Narrow

    Radiohead - Kid A
    Arcade Fire - Funeral
    The National - Alligator

First 2 were easy enough but picking between Alligator, Turn on the Bright Lights, Boxer, Boys and Girls in America, Is This It?, Youth and Young Manhood, Blackened Sky, In Rainbows, Whatever People Say I Am..., Up the Bracket, Neon Bible, Aha Shake Heartbreak, Origin of Symmetry and Vampire Weekend was tough though...

Picked Alligator because it prob won't get too many votes...

Don't suppose the full list is up anywhere?

Did they talk about the albums, or just play tracks?

I don't know if the full list is up anywhere yet but the top 5 was:

    5. In Rainbows - Radiohead
    4. Is This It - The Strokes
    3. Kid A - Radiohead
    2. Whatever People Say I Am... - Arctic Monkeys
    1. Funeral - Arcade Fire

They played a couple of tracks from every album and they did say at least a little bit about each. For some too, they had a short interview clip from the artist involved saying a bit about the album.

I'm very happy with that #1, but other than that...

Florence & The Machine shouldn't be on that list by any stretch, and no way in hell should Arctic Monkeys be that high.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,906 ✭✭✭✭whatawaster

It's a pretty decent list. But "Is this It" should be three places higher

Have to agree with you on funeral and Florence and the machine. Arctic monkeys was definitely top 5 at least though. Can't believe hail to the thief was n't higher and as for fleet foxes, i'd like to see where they'd place this time next year. ;)
