Ensomnia has taken a heap of their Dublin business especially those that want to sit down, their offer of E5 for any sandwich any coffee has been going on for months.

GOOD RIDDANCE! I haven't eaten in O'Briens in about 4 years and it was a rip-off back then.
Why would you want to pay 7 euro for two slices of bread with a bit of salad and some (probably mechanically recovered - why do you think they put so much mayo and sauce in there?) liquidised chicken/meat filling!

I only hope Pret a Manger move into the Irish market now...they make delicious sandwiches and salads and aren't a rip-off.

    NOOOO,my precious tripledeckers. :(

I'll have to eat as many of them as I can before the company goes bust.
For me, O' Brien's sandwich bars epitomise the type of overpriced-but-it-dosen't-matter-cause-we-have-so-much-money food outlets that sprung up during the Celtic Tiger to cater for a generation of wa'nkers.
Too lazy and spoilt to bother making their own sandwiches the night before work/college for perhaps a euro.

The same goes for all the fat cnunt school-kids whose parents were happy to give them a fiver a day for their lunch during secondary school so that they could buy crap like rolls out of mace, rather than make the kids lunch at night and fill a plastic bottle with water for them.

Glad to see them going. Couldn't stand the sight of them. They stand out in my mind as having been a particular rip off during the boom years. In fairness, the price difference between what it costs to make your own sandwiches at home and what it costs to buy them off these cnunts would surely indicate that they didn't stand a chance of surviving this recession.
The only situation this particular company could survive in is one where they have a large supply of cash-rich, time-poor middle-class drones looking to emulate the lifestyle of somebody living in new york who meets their friends for coffee while they type up their novel.

Buying sandwiches for 6-7 euro isnt the Irish way folks.
Bread, butter and a slice of ham is.

Oh, and I've never bought subway.

Shut up. I'd rather have a nice lunch instead of "bread, butter and a slice of ham" , cheers.

There most expensive sandwhich is 5.65 as far as I know anyway and it's feckin massive. Any of the 6-7 euro things come with a drink and soup as far as I know.

What annoyed me about O'Briens is how they could justify charging an extra €1 to eat in than if you takeaway the same sandwich. No wonder the place was always half empty anytime I ever went in. Pity about jobs going though

You are exactly the type of "Celtic-Tiger cub" that allowed these robbing bastards to survive in business for so long.

Twenty years ago you would have been lucky to have the slice of ham between those slices of bread by the way.

Dunnes are doing a €3 special at the moment. a dunnes stores premade sandwich. a choice of blt. chicken salad or ham and cheese. a bag of their own brand hand cooked crisps. and a own brand 500ml btl of stiil water. a good deal in my opionion.

Whatever happened to Ben Dunne's promise to revolutionise the sandwich industry in Ireland with his €1 sambos?

I hope they're better at liquidation than they were at making sandwiches...

Nothing worse than going into a sambo shop / deli & asking for example, a ham cheese, lettuce & tomatoe sandwich on white with mayo... the person behind the counter inevitably gets the bread, puts on the mayo, then goes, "ham and what else?"

I mean cripes - they only hae to remember 5 things, but only seem to have the mental capacity to memorise the first 3 (if your lucky).

To be honest, I don't care if they've employed a lot of people for a long time. They employ people to make profits, and, judging by the price of the sandwiches they sell, they have milked the air-head image-conscious new-Irish wan'kers for an awful lot of profits.

Yeah well maybe you should. When your wage packet gets further eroded this coming December you might change your mind.

None as of yet. But when I complete my medical degree I could find myself doing a greater service to people than simply employing them, although I could eventually end up employing a number of people.

Eh, right. I'm a reasonably intelligent person. Stop getting agitated because I like bursting the bubble of self-contentment that the modern-day Irish poxy image-obsessed, facebook picture cnunts like to live in by frequenting places like "insomnia", "bagel factory", "o 'briens sandwich bars", "costa", "lemon". These places are all image, no value for money.

When I was in secondary school at the height of the boom I never got sucked into this spoilt bastard attitude to life. All the Celtic tiger cubs should be taken out and fcuking shot.

There's another side to the recession affecting sandwich bars, cash only business. A few place I've been to won't accept cards. Strikes me that the tax man should start a tour of sandwich bars across the country.

I'm sorry, but I think you're being very condescending for someone who was a kid during the boom, and a student now.

I'm not saying you're completely wrong, just very patronising. How old were you 20 years ago when we'd have been lucky to have a slice of ham?

€3.95 for my regular meat + salad with 10% student discount. That's for the last few months at least, in Dublin City.

The only proper sandwiches it's possible to get anymore, especially in some branches where they make a decent effort with the quality.

Well, I'm assuming that a slice of ham in a schoolkids sandwiches in Ireland 20 years ago wasn't something that was taken for granted like it probably is nowadays, because my primary school lunch consisted of bread and butter sandwiches, a bottle of water and the odd petti filous youghurt or 2 digestive biscuits or mi-wadi drink sometimes. This was up until about 2000 when I started to get filling in my sandwiches :o
    I'm 20 by the way..

you talk about what it was 20 years ago when your 20,
what about petit filous - that wasn't seen as a a given either or bottled watter or digestive biscuits, what I'm trying to say is stfu and gtfo.

Well yeah, but I'm sure a potato wasn't taken for granted 150 years ago. We shouldn't feel guilty for enjoying different foods to what was available in another era.

A ham sandwich in a standard shop around my office is not going to be all that cheaper than what O'Briens charge for a triple decker sandwich, which I liked and found very filling. I'd say there's no more than a euro in the difference.

A bagel and soft drink is usually around a fiver with a lunch deal in a bagel shop, and again - I would take that any day over a "ham sangwich". That might make me a celtic cub who should be taken out and shot, or whatever it is you said - but I have absolutely no problem saying that I'd rather spend an extra 50c/€1 on something I much prefer.

Hence my use of the words "odd" and "sometimes". I bet that you frequent the exact type of places I listed, hence the obvious sense of agitation in your post.
