    Hey guys,

I heard on 2fm earlier on the Will Leaghy Show I think that 3e are moving up on the Sky EPG to position 105, just after TG4 and just before Sky1.

I had a look around the tinterwebs but cant find any info on it anywhere. any one know if its actually happening??

i hope it does move up cos its a pain in the arse having to go all the way down to 182

Anything worth watching on this channel? I suppose I'll be in a better position to find out if it does move

It seems like the most appropriate location for it. I doubt I'll watch it often but the Mrs. might.

You obviously dream a lot! You'll have to wait for RTÉ to build their fancy new complex!!!!

'Odd' being the operative word, I suppose it'll be good to see the 105 slot used on the irish EPG, but 3e is possibly even worse than Channel 6, anybody remember it ?. Don't be holding out for any additional RTÉ channels on sky I really don't think thats going to happen any time soon.

    3e is/was Channel 6

    Hi

Is 3e in the same Mix as RTE, TV3, Ch4 etc or is it still in the Sky one Mix.
Do they now broadcast in widescreen the last time I had the channel they didnt. When Channel 6 became 3e at least TV3 moved up one notch in the ranks of irish tv to 4th place :D

    Cheers

Yeah, I actually used to watch the odd show on the old '6', whereas I deffo cant remember watching anything on 3e. And in reply to the next post, Channel 6 did broadcast 16:9 but 3e seems to be permanently in 4:3 and it's part of the 'Entertainment Mix'.

The picture quality is woeful and it seems to be 16:9 in a 4:3 frame. I will be amazed if it moves to 105. I remember Channel 6 didn't appear on satellite for ages due to wranglings over their EPG position.

Sounds like wishful thinking again from TV3. They dont deserve 105. They still have not fixed the widescreen issue after nearly a year. Those involved must not watch it themselves as the issue is so obvious!

It looks like it's true. This can only be a good thing for Irish Telly.
TV3 ANNOUNCES NEW HOME ON SKY FOR 3e

    TV3 GROUP RELEASE
    IMMEDIATE: Tuesday 29th September 2009

TV3 ANNOUNCES NEW HOME ON SKY FOR 3e

TV3 today confirmed that SKY Ireland will move TV3’s second channel 3e to SKY 105 on the SKY digital box. The move will take place in October 2009.

TV3 CEO, David McRedmond said, “We are very pleased by SKY’s decision to move 3e to a prime position on their EPG. This reflects the change of the status of 3e to a public service channel. We are grateful to SKY for recognising the importance of Irish broadcasting to viewers in the Republic of Ireland”.

    ENDS.

Since when has 3e become a public service channel? They are delusional over in Ballymount.

Its a pity about the grovelling tone of Tv3 being grateful to Sky etc...When are either RTE or TV3 going to realise Sky need TV3/RTE more than the other way round. At the end of the day we are still paying twice for our own domestic channels. When they are made FTV, now that wud be something to celebrate, not moving channel numbers!

Can only be good for 3 though. Being up the top of the epg will only highlight the channel more can only increase viewership. If not then something has gone terribly wrong. I think they show a good shows.

What they could do is move their ITV "spin-ff shows" like the XTRA-Factor over to 3e now without loosing as much views if it were at 182? Maybe...

I laughed hard at the words "public service channel" in that press release. I can't think of any public service programming on 3e other than their (very short) news roundups in the evening. At least TV3 has a claim to public service, holding as it does a national analogue television programme contract that carries with it public service obligations. 3e is just another cable and satellite channel. Even as an Irish station, what gives it the right to 105 over either Setanta Ireland or City Channel (yes, I know the latter's not on Sky, but say it were...)

Setanta Ireland could be refused on the grounds that they are not an entertainment channel. That's the section that 105 sits in. I have no idea what City Channel is about.

Was watching a repeat of The Apprentice last night on 3e, saw a few ads on there.

Hells Kitchen is gonna be shown there first before TV3 i imagine. Also the new series of Fringe is starting there on Sunday night at 9pm, a hour before it starts on Sky.

There expecting increased viewers because of this perhaps they need to do something different, surely it will just help Sky One since 3e is just a poor mans version, which is bad when you think that Sky One is only a rich mans Virgin 1 since you have to pay for it.

This is the first time that TV3 have ever stated that they are a Public Service Broadcaster. I mentioned it to some one and they said that they weren't and then I rephrased it that they were a National channel and the said no actually they consider themselves a commercial operator.

I suppose now that they receive some funding from the licence fee.

If they do move, maybe one of their staff will actually watch the channel and suddenly realise they have been broadcasting in the wrong aspect ratio for nearly a year.

maybe someone should send a text to Ireland AM about it, Cagney seems to know everything about everything!!!

3e has great programmes on. They got the rights to Season 5 of The Office while in the UK ITV hasn't even shown Season 4. Plus, they got the rights to House and In Treatment before Sky. It's great for US shows that aren't available on other channels.

Other than great American shows that are shown an hour later on other channels what use is 3e at least when the began as Channel 6 they had some Irish music programmes, a film review show and even their own expose.

All of the shows bought for 3e by TV3 could easily be shown on TV3.

I wouldn't mind if TV3 were planning new shows for 3e but they can't call them a Public Service Broadcaster. 3e is a commercial entertainment channel just as much as Sky One.

In Treatment wasn't pick up by Sky AFAIK and I don't think it has been on British TV, I would have though it would have worked well on More 4 or BBC 4. Well done to TV3 for picking it up but it seemed very out of place on 3e.

In Treatment is to be shown on Sky Arts ( not sure if its 1 or 2). I mailed TV3 and 3e on a few ocasions about the widescreen issue ages ago but I got no reply, I dont have the channel any more.

To explain myself: - I stated that In Treatment doesn't suit 3e and I was thinking that Sky Arts was a bit Ironic. I have never seen either Sky Arts 1 or 2 but I am sure they are 20times better than any other sky channel.

Yeah they've had some good shows, but I've noticed that they've been seriously dicking around with the schedule lately. Heroes ended up dumped in a Sunday afternoon slot, The US Office danced around the schedule as well. Not to mention that now that they're owned by TV3 they've become a bit of a dumping ground for rubbish like the Xtra Factor and Corrie repeats that I'd have no truck with :)

Well, whatever about the merits or otherwise of 3e or Setanta being on Sky, why would you reckon that a local Dublin TV station should be on it ?

    Why not Channel South ?

RTÉ LIVE HD is what is required, a Sports/News channel with live sports and News when there is no live sports.

Fair point, there would be no live sport on it and the news would be the same as the live news on the rte player.

I Read a piece from during the week about this whole move on the Sky EPG and as I think was already said here TV3 went to the BCI and got the license agreement for 3e changed to coinside with TV3 as a "public service broadcaster". With this being the main reason BskyB allowed the move, I was thinking, does this not mean that TV3 could or maybe should broadcast 3e on terrestrial as a public serivce channel?
