I can't agree that Stakelums are a rip off, I shop there for all my shooting gear. I get my Eley standard subs from there @€;5.50ish a box.

What subs did you get, if they were for targets then the price goes up.

They are around €8 in most places.

I'm with clivej on this. I moved to stakelums for buying my gear as he was cheaper to deal with on most things and as a returning customer he'll look after you. Take cartridges for clays. €45 - €50 per 250 everywhere else he does them for €40. I know a lad paying €70 per 250 for Eley superb 28gr i pay €54 per 250. Less if i buy in bulk.

Eley subs are dear enough when you compare them to other .22s from different manufacturers. Take Lapua super club. Perfectly good for hunting and a half decent target round (as long as you are looking for a good group and not pin point accuracy) and only for €4.50 - €5 per 50.

Then theres Eley match EPS. Most places i went were charging €10.99 and up per 50. Sean (stakelums) started getting them in for me even though he normally didn't stock them and charges €10 per 50 when i buy 500 per tranaction.

Moral of the story is, if you're not happy go elsewhere but you'll find the prices the same if not dearer than stakelums. If you don't like paying the money try a different, cheaper round. It doesn't necessarily mean a worst round.

Clive I reckon you are referring to some of the target ammo, solids, in the Eley brand, the hunting ammo is hollow point ;)

I paid €8 ish for them there too. They are very accurate BUT not as good as Winchester subs for humane kills out at 80+ yards.

Winchester subs are best all round hunting sub IMHO and last time I had 'em they were approx €4.50 per box

I have to agree Winchester SuperX subs work the best for me, and at half the price of Eley they are cost effective as well, They used to be in a grey box but the new stuff is in a pale blue box, seems to group the same for me.

Lapua Super Club is solid point, nice rounds for accuracy but not suitable for hunting IMO.

I can't make me mind up about the solid points as against the HP's for hunting. And before you all jump own on me for saying this.

I am using the Lapua Super Club and lately the Lapua HP for shooting rabbits out to 120m with my CZ 22lr. Accuracy seems to be the same and the bunny is still dead.

I'd like to see/know if the HP subs expand or not - I have seen many of the HP subs still exit a rabbit after shooting as do the solid points.

So the next thing is to make sure you have a good backstop ALWAYS.

As for price I got my last Lapua Super Club @€;38.50/500

I have never had a Hp stay in a rabbit?

I would thik the range would want to be in the 100's if not 1000's of yards to get the force down???

Solids, with the notable exception of CCI "SGB", and target ammo is IMO & experience is just that, target ammo. I have seen a few lads I have shoot with head shot bunnies with target ammo and the bunnies run away more often than they die :(

I never hunt with target ammo as target ammo is designed differently ? and seems to disintegrate too easily on connecting with a bunnies head.

Most lads I know who use target ammo only do so 'cause some of it's cheaper than hollowpoints.

When I shoot a bunny I strive for an instant and pain free kill on said bunny. Doesn't always happen but it's what I strive for. Therefore, head shots only at ranges of no more than 80 yards with subsonics and more than 120 yards with high velocity ammo, always hollow points.

 have you disected every rabbit you've shot with a HP to prove this ? Try aiming for it's head :)

 Yet more scientific proven facts ?

You need to go out with someone who knows what they're doing :)
