Hi guys, been trying to think of this movie for ages, i'm pretty sure its set back in the olden days and this young girl is forced to marry this older man. I think the young girl starts writing these dirty books behind her husbands back and sneaking them out of the house to be published, and the young girl falls in love with the painter/decorator or something. Any ideas? thanks

    I need help also........

I am looking for a film which I thought was called "A Winters Tale" It was made in the 70's or thereabouts - American - it was about a female musician (piano player I think) who gets kidnapped. She is held in a large house by well to do men, and tries to escape which results in them cutting off her fingers). It is winter and snowing in the film. The woman bears a resemblence to Mary Steenburgen the actress married to Ted Dansen but I don't think it is her.

I think "Winter" is in the title of the film

    any help appreciated

The 70's? Are you sure it's not just The Piano?

no, on reflection it may not be a piano she played it could have been a violin. The point was that, that was the reason her fingers were chopped off. I'm nearly sure it had the world 'winter' in the title.

    Oh right :p

Her fingers get chopped of in The Piano though.

Okay, well .. I know you said that Mary Steenburgen wasn't in it, but this was the first film that came to mind, it has Winter in the title and I'm pretty sure she gets one finger removed.

thats it - thank you so much. Funnily I had thought it was an older film when I was watching it on tv (which was actually in the 80's). But that definitely is the film. Thanks so much - it was bugging me trying to get the name of it - also the reason I didn't think it was mary stenburgen was because I thought the film was from the 70's and though she might have been too you - apologies for the wrong information and thanks for your detective work

they should show it on tv here - it was a really good film.

I saw this one on a VHS about 10 years ago.

I only saw one scene. There's a couple having sex on a bed, the woman is on top, both having a great time, and then she reaches for a knife (I'm sure it was behind them on the bed, although maybe under the pillow) and she slashes him across the face. I remember it was quite graphic, I was fairly young when I saw it and couldn't get that image of his face out of my head for ages.

    Sound familiar to anyone?

Basic Instinct, I remember that disturbed me as well, shows the knife going right into his eye. Was not happy, considering I was hoping it would be my first porn for one of my first ever ****.

Easier than I thought, thanks. Just looked up that scene on YouTube, not nice, but I remembered it a lot worse. :) I might have been 11 or so.

I'm looking for the name of a horror movie. The details I have are extremely vague as it's years since I watched it and was quite drunk at the time (it was on late one night after I had been out on the lash)

I think it was set in an airport and there were orb-like monsters or something similar which were taking people over.. that's pretty much all I've got I'm afraid! =/

    Anyway...

Help greatfully received. Think it might have had the word "attitude" in it, but not sure. IMDB can't help.

EDIT: Thanks to whoever moved this here - didn't know we had such a thread - and apologies for starting a new one

    sounds like The Rescue

Okay, I've been trying to find it for months. & have had no success at all.

I remember seeing it on RTE a few years back. (5-8years ago) & LOVING it. I was young at the time, & really want to see it again. So, if ANYBODY could help me out, it would be very much appreciated. smile.gif

    I'll tell y'all what I know:

Basic plot is that a woman (possibly a mother) is diagnosed with a terminal illness, leaving behind her husband (possible children). In the end, she dies. I remember that the final scene is: Swings. As in, swings in a playground. It had something to do with swings. She had gone back to peace, and was now on the swings. Or something similar. smile.gif

A couple of scenes I remember are:

One of her (& family) going out to get a Christmas Tree.

Also a scene where she's resting in bed, her husband has made her a smoothie / health juice, and she's discussing her illness with the husband and nanny/housekeeper. smile.gif

If any of you know it, or even vaguely remember it, could ye please take the time to post here.

    Thanks so much.

    is it The Family Stone?

Ok, this is probably the vaguest one yet!

I remember watching a film when I was very young. It was a very old black and white (possibly 40’s) and was set on a train. The only thing I can remember is a scene at the end where there was a character who had their entire face wrapped in bandages. I think there was murders on the train as well.

    Any ideas?

    Strangers on a Train (1951)?

No I don't think so, I had IMDB'd Strangers on a Train before and I don't think it's the same movie. I think the one I mean was set entirely on the train and there was definitely a character whose face was covered in bandages. I remember thinking it was fantastic when I was about 5!

Long shot, but the original Invisible Man has a famous Train scene and his face was in bandages, you'll see a few seconds of it at the end of this trailer:

I don't think that's it either, I'm sure the one I am talking about was a murder mystery and the person in bandages at the end had major importance. I have a vaugue memory of a body/person being thrown over the side of the train.

Thanks for the suggestions though, they both look like great movies, might download them over the weekend and have a B&W marathon! :D
