    Launch Team is "Go"
    Tue, 27 Oct 2009 01:43:15 PM GMT

The range has cleared the cargo ship and the launch team is targeting liftoff at 9:49 a.m. All launch team members have switched to the same audio channel from now through the end of the flight to ensure efficient communications. Launch Test Director Jeff Spaulding has conducted his launch status check of the prime launch team, including range safety and range weather, and all are "go" for launch. Additionally, the Launch Authority Team and Launch Director Ed Mango have approved launch today.

Range "Red" Due to Pad Winds
    Tue, 27 Oct 2009 02:30:17 PM GMT
Launch Weather Officer Kathy Winters just told Launch Director Ed Mango the range has gone "red," or "no-go," due to wind at the launch pad exceeding the 20-knot limit. She's also less confident about the expected gap in the clouds, and whether there will be enough time to come out of the hold and launch the vehicle before the clouds close in. We're standing by to see how weather evolves.

New Launch Time: 11:04 a.m. EDT
    Tue, 27 Oct 2009 02:50:21 PM GMT

Launch Test Director Jeff Spaulding and the rest of the launch team now are planning to resume the countdown at T-4 minutes at 11 a.m. with a new liftoff time of 11:04 a.m. There are no issues with the rocket; the extended hold is due to weather.

    That's 15:04 GMT for launch.

    Tue, 27 Oct 2009 03:05:45 PM GMT

Launch has been targeted for 11:14 a.m. to give the weather a little more time to clear. The T-4 minute hold would resume at 11:10 a.m. with launch scheduled four minutes later, weather permitting.

Prelaunch polls are beginning as the end of the T-4 hold approaches.

    Oh for God's sake...

New Launch Time: 11:24 a.m. EDT
    Tue, 27 Oct 2009 03:16:19 PM GMT

Launch Director Ed Mango has instructed the team to give launch one more try, and if anything prevents a liftoff, that will be the end of today's launch attempt. Weather went "green" minutes ago for triboelectrification, only to go "red" again due to pad winds. The new launch time is 11:24 a.m.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,962 ✭✭✭jumpguy

They have a 4-hour window and have another 30 minutes of that window left. Why are they scrubbing the launch? They should try every slot until the the window is up.

There would be a strong urge to hit the button at 11:59 and bugger the consequences!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭John mac

why can't they launch through a small bit of cloud?

( don't the jets flying around produce cloud ) :)
