tversity and ps3 problem

wondering if anyone here can help, been trawling the net with no luck.
basically, installed and set up tversity to stream to ps3.
opened ports on the router, and on the firewall.
tversity can "see" the ps3, its listed as a device with teh IP number corresponding
If i search for tversity using the PS3s web browser i can access it
BUT when searching for a media server, the PS3 fails to find it.

    any ideas? Im lost.

I have never been able to get TVersity to work properly it takes a lot of setting up. I got Twonkyvision and it worked perfectly straight away required very little setting up.

You get a 30 day trial for it.

if your on NAT 1 it wont work,

use ps3mediaserver, free and works out of the box, as long as your on nat2/3

installed ps3mediaserver, it says its found the ps3, but again when i run a scan, no media server found by ps3, something to do with my router perhaps?

If you go onto network settings and click the top item, something like display network settings, it will tell you if you are NAT 1 or 2 or 3. As has been said NAT1 wont work on tversity. NAT1 is PS3 connected to internet through router but not on your home network, am open to be corrected here. NAT2 is connected to the internet and on your home network but with no restrictions and online gaming works with no issues this is generally the most balanced for all. NAT3 online and on network but the systems detects some settings are optimised and as a result you may get some issues with online gaming. Hope I helped somewhat but I'm sure that I'm over simplifying as it's just my understanding from all the issues that I've had with TVersity and online gaming.

Have you enabled Media servers on the PS3 ?
Its in settings > system settings ( i think)

Yeah, thats enabled. Running nat3. Its working through the web browser but not showing up as a server when searched for

Can you get it to go to Nat2. I've never had Nat3 so not sure if it would cause any problems. When I use TVersity I dont have to search for the mediaserver as it usually self discovers. Getting it to work in the first place however took a bit of doing. If you get it to Nat2 and have TVersity running it should show up under the video/music (and photo I think). Sometimes though I find that it's not there and I have to click on restart sharing on TVersity annd then it comes back.

    hi,
cool thats its found ps3, your 99% there,
you shouldnt need to do a scan from here, (ps3mediaserver instructions) go to video on xmb scroll up/downthere should be a new icon a green "play" button, this is what you want ...
    can you see it ?
should be able access your pc/laptop from here..c:>downloads>lost.avi or whatever,
your on nat 3, so that shouldnt be a problem

Ive the same problem.Im currently on Nat1 through PPPOE--ie directly connected to the internet so the media servers dont show up.

If I set it up to go through the router ie give the ps3 an ip in the same range of my network I get NAT3 and ps3 media server works flawlessly but some online games dont even connect.

Im told I need to get nat 2 for the best balance of both so does anyone know what ports I need to forward and do I forward them to the ps3`s ip address or the pc`s?

Im on eircom using the netopia modem.I know how to successfully forward ports but when I give the ps3 an ip it gives the option to forward to either the pc or the ps3?

Im pulling my hair out with this.

I had a problem with this before and I had to rconfigure the windows vista firewall, even though tversity was being let through already, I don't think it knew the correct port.

found a setting and it fixed instantly! still on nat 3, found a "special applications" setting in my router which i added it to, and instantly both ps3mediaserver and tversity worked, both showed up on the menu without a scan.

For future reference, what type of router do you have? It might help other people with the same issue.

Did you actually turn the laptop off or just close the x on TVersity to shut it down. If you just closed out using the x TVersity still runs in the background and should still be active in the task manager in the bottom right corner near the clock.

you cant get nat 2 with eircoms router, daft i know but true, only 1/3
if you have latest router firmware there is on option in custom services, drop down menu, automatic port forward for playstation network, you need to have your ps3 turned on. click playstation network from drop down menu, enable, and then host machine, this will be your ps3 ip number that come up on screen if its turned on,
you'll still have nat 3, but thats the netopia flaw, unless you pppoe trick

Before starting anything below make sure you have all the information lined out below as it wont work.
You're on NAT1 which effectively means that your on the internet on the wrong side of your home network. Your PS3 ipaddress should be the same as your external ipaddress. You can check this on the PS3 Settings>network setting>(cant remember what its exactly called but it's the top of this list. If on your PC goto start>run>cmd> the type "ipconfig/all" at the cmd your ip address should be something like 192.xxx.xxx.xxx. Also here you should have subnet, DNS servers and also default gateway please write these down for later. This IP address will be very different to what you PS address is. The way I got around this was to set it up manually. I have BT BB so it may be slightly different. (working for memory here so I may miss the odd step)Start the network set up and select custom scan for the wireless network network select it and use PPoE it then asks for your username and password. You should already have these but if not either call the ISP or someone else may be able to help. I could post mine but with BT they give you your own individual one. Next on the DNS select manual. On you PC from before you should have the DNS and subnet address and also default gateway input these. It asks also to input in a IP address. You should also have an IP address from before of you PC assuming its something like 192.168.1.2 so for your PS you select 192.168.1.xxx for xxx you can stick in anything from 0-256. You cant use any that are already in use so for ease sake I just use 135 as it's unlikely that i'll have 135 items connected to my router at any one point. I can remember everything else from here on but for MTU i use 1500 and I have uPnP disabled. I'll be on tonight at home and edit this to make sure that I've included all the steps that I've left out from the above. Hope it helps a small bit. Talk later.

Edit: Sorry for not getting on at night football was on last night and I totally forgot, anyway heres what I do

Settings>Internet Connection Settings>Select a setting method=Custom>Select a connection Method=Wireless>WLAN Settings=Scan(Select the correct Network SSID)>WLAN security settings=WPA/WEP(whichever security you have enabled on your betwork)>WPA/WEP Key=What ever password you have>IP address settings= Manual> (heres where you enter all the details/IPAddress/subnet mask/Default Router/Primary DNS/Secondary DNS>MTU=Manual>MTU= 1500>Proxy server=Do Not use>UPnP=Disabled. Press the X Button to save these settings then test connection. If all details entered then you should have NAT2 as your PS3 should now be connected to the internet and on your network.

I found some setting on the router, changed it and it worked. If you're on the same router, click on tools at the top, then Misc. at the side, and check those settings.. u need to enable the UPnP here, I also have xbox support enabled

ya can get nat 2 with the 2247-nwg but i could only get nat 2 with the 2247-02, i know of someone that said they got nat 2 with the 2247-02 by givin the ps3 a static ip and forwardin every single port to the ps3
dunno how true it is though

    He guys,
Just discovered that this could be done only the other day and I have tons of stuff on a HDD I would love to be able to stream from laptop to the PS3.

I downloaded TVersity yesterday followed the setup and surprise surprise it did not work :-( I had used Vuze before and it worked perfectly!! Both PS3 and Laptop saw each other immediately. I tied PS3mediaserver as well but it could not find the PS3??

Anyhow I'm on an NTL\UPC 10M connection and have the standard Cisco router\cable modem they ship with it. I don't know which NAT I'm on but has anyone got TVersity working with their NTL setup?

    Cheers,
    M

    Hi lads,
Anyone got it working with NTL Cisco router\cable modem and PS3?

    Cheers,
    M

PS: How do I check which NAT I am?

Update: Just done an Internet Connection test on the PS3 and it says there I am NAT 2....that looks promisning from what wassais here earliere but the PS3 still does not see the media server when I search? Are there any ports that need to be enabled on the Cisco EPC 2425 router for this?

Can you check what IP address your PC is and what IP address your PS3 is?

Only thing that has ever worked for me with the PS3 is the Windows Media Player.

Won't work with the 360 - TVersity does that.
Also tried the PS3 Media Server - but again never got it to work.

Media player works fine though - from memory I think once it was on and upgraded I had to do a search for it to discover my PS3.

    In terms of the PS3
    > fixed IP address via the router
    > opened the ports that I found on the various websites around Nat2 /3 and sharing

Been working now for over a year with little / no issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,369 ✭✭✭madmoe

IP address of laptop is 192.168.1.10 and IP address of PS3 is 192.168.1.11

TVersirty is made to work for PS3. I just don't understand why its so feckin' hard to get going!!

    M

Update: I switched the network settings on the PS3 to Wireless lads and forwarded the ports on the Cisco EPC 2425 and surprise surprise the PS3 can now see TVersity!

The only annoying thing is its so slow playing even SD content :-( Ideally I would like to have the PS3 using the wired connection to the router as they are right beside each other.....oh well!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,369 ✭✭✭madmoe

I tried to connect the laptop to the router via a wired setup with the PS3 also wired in and when I did the PS3 picked up TVersity immediately.

That would lead me to think that the issue is something to do with when the PS3 is hard wired to the router and the laptop is connected through wireless.

    Cheers,
    M

Just an update on this. I got PS3mediserver going once I connected the PS3 wirelessly to my Cisco EPC 2425 router. Its streams all SD content OK but with .MKV files it seems to stutter :-(

When I connect the PS3 to the router via the wired option I can't see PS3mediaserver at all.... anyone know why this would be?

    Cheers,
    M

I've had the same issue with mediaconnect on a mac I just use wireless now I must say though I rarely see any slowdown or struttering but I can only stream compatable files it doesn't transcode on the fly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,369 ✭✭✭madmoe

There has to be some way to get it working when the PS3 is wired to the router!! I'm not giving up yet!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,329 ✭✭✭wcarey1975

Mine is currentlly working. The PS3 is hardwired to the router and the laptop is wireless from acros the room

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,369 ✭✭✭madmoe

I had a feeling it could be done! What is the playaback like for .MKV files wcarey1975??

What router are you using? I have the Cisco EPC 2425 from NTL....I think its a combined cable modem and router.

Have you used PS3mediaserver at all?

    Cheers,
    M
