I can be your long lost pal
    I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
    You can call me Al

    on musical scales
the musical scale is based on twelve even logarithmic steps in frequency

    2^(0 / 12) = 1 THIS IS THE BASE NOTE
    2^(1 / 12) = 1.05946309
    2^(2 / 12) = 1.12246205 the second note
    2^(3 / 12) = 1.18920712
2^(4 / 12) = 1.25992105 this is the third on the classical music scale
    2^(5 / 12) = 1.33483985 this is the fourth
    2^(6 / 12) = 1.41421356
    2^(7 / 12) = 1.49830708 this is the fifth
    2^(8 / 12) = 1.58740105
    2^(9 / 12) = 1.68179283 this is the sixth
    2^(10 / 12) = 1.78179744
    2^(11 / 12) = 1.88774863 this is the seventh
    2^(12 / 12) = 2 the octave

    note:
the fifth frequency is 3/2 as large of the base frequency
so three wavelengths of the fifth match two wave lengths of the the base note

why is a doubling of frequency called an "octave"?
when twelve keys span across each pitch doubling
where middle c is twice low c and half high c

octave indicates the eight white key notes

why not "dodecave" for all 12 notes?

I was under the impression that they didn't match exactly.

they were based on fractions multiples of the base note frequency

    2^(0 / 12) = 1 THIS IS THE BASE NOTE
    2^(1 / 12) = 1.05946309
    2^(2 / 12) = 1.12246205 ~ 10/9 the second note
    2^(3 / 12) = 1.18920712
    2^(4 / 12) = 1.25992105 ~ 5/4 the third
    2^(5 / 12) = 1.33483985 ~ 4/3 the fourth
    2^(6 / 12) = 1.41421356
    2^(7 / 12) = 1.49830708 ~ 3/2 the fifth
    2^(8 / 12) = 1.58740105
    2^(9 / 12) = 1.68179283 ~ 5/3 the sixth
    2^(10 / 12) = 1.78179744
    2^(11 / 12) = 1.88774863 ~ 17/9 this is the seventh
    2^(12 / 12) = 2 the octave

the third, forth, fifth, and sixth will resonate with the base note over 2, 3 or 4 wavelengths

the ear finds this resonance to be harmonic
the second the third fill the gapes in the 8 step scale

Hi Ghost! We are sitting next to each other in a very boring lecture, trying to stay awake while the prof drones on and on and on, without taking a breath. He probably thinks were are taking copious notes, when in fact we're chatting with you on TCN. Ha!
