guys I am reading my way through the application form and am developing a some questions.

    1) what are exempted animals?

"Do you intend to use the firearm, subject of this application, to hunt and kill exempted wild mammals within the meaning of the Wildlife Act 1976?"

    2) how detailed do I have to explain why I want for instance a .17 HMR and not a .22 lr?

(1)You will be ticking the no box on the exempted wild animals question as this is for deer stalkers and I doubt you will be stalking deer with a .17hmr.

(2)Basicly the reason you would want a .17hmr over a .22lr is that it is a more humane killing calibre and you do not need to get as close to the vermin you will be hunting therefore giving you a better chance of making the kill.

Are you going to hunt wth the gun? Thats all its asking. Vermin during out of season months and mammals and other wildlife/fowl during the seasonal months as outlined in the Wildlife acts.

The explanation does not have to be a novel. " I intend to use the firearm for the purpose of vermin control, on lands owned by me/ on lands of which i have the owners permission to shoot". If you are claiming hunting is the reason for the gun, vermin control needs no hunting licences as oppose to deer hunting/stalking which needs a copy of your current hunting licence granted by NPWS, and both need your wriitten permissions from land owners to shoot their lands.

Follow Stevoman's advice and check out the guidelines at the top of each forum and the NARGC website. Good detailed info.
