I concur completely! If twats like Bob Geldof can get an honorary degree in TCD then they deserve a posthumous degree!:cool:

Agreed, my first time in UCC always admired the grounds. As a mature student this time around, I should be spending saturday finding future quiet places for my evening nap. :)

Gonna be hitting this tomorrow instead of heading to Galway. Didn't register for any of the workshops though so i'll just have a wander around the different stalls on campus.

I discovered today that being 17 and in first year is a load of bollocks!

Even the events organised by the Students Union are for over 18's cos they're in pubs, clubs, etc.

    It's discrimination!!

Why not hold the event somewhere that won't stop you at the door cos you're 17, and if they're that bloody bothered about it, have them check I.D. at the bar when you're buying alcohol. It's so ****e, I can't go out to anything for my entire first year, and my friends won't go either cos they wouldn't leave me at home :mad::(

    +1

I think if there are students in place, there should be a system where if you are under 18 you have a stamp on your hand or somethung. at least then you can still go to the event, albeit marked so you cant buy alcohol.

But, I guess its a good idea in theory and probobly wouldnt work so well.
pretty crap though if you are under 18 :(

Will taking your college I.D not work?I saw posters that said I.D required but i just assumed it was to make sure you're a UCC student and not someone who just tagged along?

I have to say that's a good idea,But as it's the law,Something like that wouldn't be enough and the guards wouldn't allow it.

What time are people heading into these things? I'm not interested in any of the workshops, I just want to sign up for clubs and societies.

Yeah what did everyone think of the workshops and stuff? I thought it was a really good turnout, considering it was raining earlier on! :)

Btw Karl Marx did ya come up to our stand today?!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,281 ✭✭✭Ricky91t

I took a quick glance over at your stand but didn't come any where near it. I busy talking with the Atheist society guys.

On a slightly off topic note, can anyone tell me if the visitors centre is open tomorrow? I need to return something that was purchased there today.

Why are you returning it? And the Atheist society, tch.

I'm joining the pro life society. :)

Well hopefully there will be a pro-choice society allowed soon to stop this ridiculous scenario of the 'pro-life' (anti-choice) being the only one allowed. It is a thundering disgrace in this day and age that such a society is not allowed by the Societies Guild constitution.

    /rant

Btw I signed up for the atheist soc as well! :D

Yeah I met a lot of people last year who were extremely irked by the absense of a pro-choice society.

To be honest I don't know why anyone would want to spend their social time in either society, whatever happened to a good old Film or book society?

Slightly specialised is it not; meeting once a week to discuss abortion?

Aren't you joining one of them though?

As opposed to Student's for life discussing... em... life?!

Sorry if I come across stubborn but I'm just very frustrated with this issue! In Labour we have many who are pro-life and we can agree to disagree no bother. I'd just like a chance to just talk about the subject at society level in UCC, is all. Good luck with the Society anyway :)
