I have done it there times saved about €800 on one rifle straight forward to do apply for licence when you get licence ask for article 7 but at the moment the article 7 is a bit of an issue with some supers sound it out with your fo or you can get a southern dealer to do the import for you for a small fee and all you will need is just the cert

AFAIK, it has to be imported through a dealer now , or has that part of the legislation not been enacted yet?

Why not take a drive up and have a look. Tannyoky Guns in Newry. Great selection of shotguns, rifles, air guns etc. Was looking at a DT10 Trident for £3850 (€4400). Same shotgun down here was between €5500 and €5800. As meathshooter said well worth it. As mentioned by sparks the personal import ban/restrictions are not yet in place so a licence and article 7 are all thats needed then you can go collect it yourself.

your pretty much bang on, it takes about a week for the dealers importation doc's to come through and then, provided you have the gun paid for the dealer this side can go and collect the gun and bring it in....then you just gotta wait for your license to come through and go collect it.....I know Martin and the Dealer that he works with in Donegal very well, they will keep you on the straight and narrow.
As for the OP, you would be mad not to get it in from the North, thats where all mines come from, saved a fortune ;)

Lucy, you live in the sensible part of this island as regards firearms legislation and registration-down here in the rest its through the looking glass, black is white and white is black :D and at the present minute in time we are all stuck in a huge grey bit!:D

Am afraid thats not always the case, im in Derry and bought my rifles in Lifford, Co Donegal, at a far better price, saving in the region of £130 than the Strabane gun shop, so all in all i think its down to dealing with the dealer, and your approach,
    just like hunting.;)
