Jumping Around: Acceptable Tactic or Cheap Move?

This is in response to a thread on the xbox forum regarding acceptable tactics for a noob. One poster suggested Bunny hopping jumping around, which I responded to as being frowned upon. To which someone replied "Frowned on by who" I've always witnessed abuse of a player that's used it. Personally I hate bunny hopping jumping around. For me, there's nothing worse than seeing bunch of players bouncing around like they're played Halo. So given the question I'd like to gauge the depth of feeling here.

Do you approve/disapprove of Bunny Hopping in COD 40 votes

Approve: It's perfectly acceptable valid tactic.

    Disapprove: It's an unacceptable tactic.

I dont like it when people do it no but sometimes I find myself jumping around a corner etc just from reflexes the odd time.

To me I dont think its a noob move exactly. The person the hopper is trying to shoot should be able to easily recognise the predetermined path where the jumper is flying through the air and where hes going to land. So if you have any sort of good aim you should be able to pick him off most of the time. This is on the pc now with a mouse. I dont think it would be as easy on the console. Also the only real way the jumper has a chance is if he surprises you in which case you deserve to die anyhow. As most of the game is about knowing where your enemy is around and being ready for him.

Its not that its a n00b move its more a sign of a bad gamer, and any decent player will quickly dispatch hoppers. I aint played COD in a while but can you shoot while jumping? they got rid of that in BF2 making hopping pointless really

Yea, you can shoot and jump at the same time. I don't use it very often, just the odd time. I don't mind others that use to sparingly, but all the time would piss me off. Its fairly annoying though when your sniping, and an enemy randomly jumps over your shot though.

Jesus H Christ, the whiners are out in force again. Let me just say this:

    BUNNYHOPPING IS IMPOSSIBLE IN COD4

It cannot be done, end of story.

Thanks Kami! I voted "Approve: It's perfectly acceptable valid tactic" because it's impossible to bunny-hop in CoD4!

No. It's doing jump after jump after jump after jump. If you try to jump twice in quick succession in CoD4 you'll find that you're not actually going anywhere fast on the second jump!

I believe it was actually possible to bunny-hop in CoD1 when it first came out but so many people complained about it that IW implemented an "anti bunny-hop" (in a patch) that has been in CoD games ever since.

going prone suddenly or "drop shotting" someone is the only slightly cheap move in cod because its just taking advantage of being invincible during any sort of annimation such as throwing a grenade or hoping a fence. still, dont hate the player, hate the game. :P

that is clearly 3 things then :

    1. a l2p issue
    2. get reactions
    3. get aim

I only hop to take potshots at someone who is beyond a wall that's slightly too high. It's a funny way of killing people.

On the consoles (PS3 for sure) you do see a lot of people jumping up and down as soon as you try to shoot them and that counts as bunnyhopping in my view. They may not be travelling around the map much but they are trying to take advantage of changes in animation to avoid being hit.

Noooo they are just jumping, that's not even close to what bunnyhopping is. You know you can aim up and down as well as left and right you know?

I did say 'in my view' right, you know? :p;) Just because you can't actually bunnyhop in COD does not mean you don't have idiots attempting it ;)

It kinda does... they are trying to avoid getting shot, not trying to repeatedly strafe jump in order to increase their speed.

I noticed that. It usually means they have no idea where you are, makes it all the more sweeter when you kill them. It's pointless on COD4, it just doesn't work. I think it's just panic, and people mash the keypad

And that's bunny-hopping in CSS (and this is exactly what is impossible in CoD):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea0ByYCPWOA

Jumping to avoid being hit is a "normal" / "natural" reaction AFAIC. I do it all the time! If I didn't I die 50% more IMO... And yes, it's perfectly acceptable.

Exactly, I've been banned from a ridiculous number of public servers for "bunnyhopping". When in reality all I did was jump around a corner shooting when I knew an enemy was there

Amazing! The number of people who give out about truly legitimate game perks such as juggernaut or the n00b tube and yet think jumping around is legitimate.

Are you saying jumping should be removed? If so, just go burn your console.

I'm saying that constantly jumping up and down to avoid being hit is stupid and that those who do this and then give out about legitimate game perks are the ones who should burn their consoles/PCs.

Riddle me this so, why have all the promods of CoD4 removed the nooby perks but left in the noobiest of moves jumping?

Because promods are like all archaic bodies, they can't get used to change. They are afraid of change because they might be shown up as gamers who can't actually adapt to new challenges. I've no time for promods at all really so it's an arguement that holds no water with me. Simples! ;)

    For the pedantic...

The poll is about people who constantly jump to avoid being killed. The fact that it isn't the textbook definition of bunny hopping ala CS is irrelevant.

    Nope, guess again.

Theres a difference between pedantic difference and completely wrong. And bunnyhopping isn't just in CS, its in the Unreal series, the Quake series, the HL1 and Source engines and tbh most FPS games.
