According to todays Evening Hearld they want to bring the show to Ireland.

I suppose Channel 4 did it, so their is little reason to complain about TV3 broadcasting an Irish Version.

I really don't see this show in C4's remit perhaps five/ITV should produce it over in Britain.

    Who would host it though?

Martin King might be good, but I'm guessing TV3 would want a slightly bigger name, and go shopping around for one.

They'll probably give it to Matt Cooper or Trevor Walsh as they seem to be involved on every tv3 show...except Xpose!!

But hope it does happen, would be nice to see the Irish version...and who will banker be??? some dodgy guy from AIB or what?!!

Sure they could look to central Europe for a host or three. ;)

This is the problem we need to let people become slightly bigger, Martin King would be good.

Why do you want to see Irish people opening boxes?

TBH this is just PlayTV during the day.

However I am guessing this will be a prime time show for TV3.

I really hate to "Dis" irish television and broadcasting, but it has come to my attention that TV3 programming is some of the "tackiest" that I have ever seen. For e.g. Xpose. At a recent press conference regarding Ronaldo's move to Real Madrid, an Xpose presenter "sneaked" in and asked ronaldo about his "short" shorts. This in my opinion was terrible for irish television as it portrays to other that all we care about is "gossip and celebrity".

I would implore whoevers in charge not to bring Deal Or No Deal to TV3 as it would be the equivelent of putting a tutu on a bulldog to try and make it look pretty.

I read in Saturdays Star newspaper that Keith Barry is to be the host

    Wouldn't he be bored?

If only it was a comedy

Will it be the UK format , or the normal one used in other countries ?

    Yes.

I thought it was in different formats around the world. But more than likely, in TV3 mediocrity, they possible couldn't bare to waste their hard earned cash on a Set Designer. I could be wrong and TV3 will go in a completely different direction to the English version, but I am guessing that the "You're Fired" show for The Apprentice won't look to dissimilar to the English Version.

A very new and interesting presenter that no one has ever heard off.

Bar those who have watched the Keith Barry Experience. He is an Irish Magician and has had TV shows on RTÉ, ABC and ITV.

I am guessing their is a scratch card involved as this will be sponsored by the National Lottery.

Oh yeah, I saw him put a card into Colin Farrell's boxers once!

The UK version was the first to use boxes instead of cases and to use a banker; the original format used a computer to make the offers. I think it was also the first to have players in the wings, certainly in the US version the people in the wings are models or actors.

    +1.
I'd inevitably be the one to start the Irish 1p club.
Plus, Keith Barry is not a ginormous tool like Noel Edmonds so it's win-win.

I am guessing it will be scratch card entry since the show is sponsored by the National Lottery but I could be wrong about that. I haven't heard anything about the show since.

Not sure if this is already known here but, according to Wikipedia, DOND Ireland will debut in October, and will air on Fridays at 9pm.

If that is true, it will be (for the second half of the show anyway) up against Tubbers and the Late Late.

    Hmm...

Yeah it should be on at 6:30 at the very latest, really just a daytime gameshow. Same goes for most of National Lottery Gameshows.

    Pick a box.
    which box?
    any box!

Anyone get the new scratchcards yet? Won 5euro on my first one. :D

A person only has a chance of getting onto the show if they get a "deal" from the banker in the bottom left of the scratchcard.

Went onto the website - seems like it's gonna go out on a Friday at 8pm, must mean that it'll be 30 mins so won't be as dragged out as the Channel 4 version.

Will Keith Barry still present with all the problems over the last month?

I'd say so anyway - he's on most of the advertising on papers and around those glass boxes where the lottery tickets are kept in shops so he must be doing it still.

the top prize is €250,000, there'll be 26 indentical sealed red boxes, there'll be scratchcard to accompany the show and you must send it in if you get 'Deal' on the Banker's Bonus section to get on it. Drawings will be on Ireland AM and I'm guessing it won't be like the UK version, I'd say it'll be on every Friday in a primetime slot (7/8/9). It'd be good if it was like the UK version as I really enjoy watching the special weeks they have. I looking forward to Trick or Treat week as I saw the trailer for it on YouTube.:D

It's an 8 pm start. It won't be 7 as Emmer and Coronation St is on and it won't be 8:30 because Coro St is on. I really won't be watching TV3 this Friday.

I don't see why it won't have the exact same format as the UK version I could be wrong, why have the same? why bother with an Irish version?

I understand that you like this show but I just do not get the attraction. Do you like Noel Edmunds as a TV Presenter?

It won't be starting this Friday or, according to the latest RTE Guide, next Friday either.

So I guess whoever posted on Wikipedia that it would be starting in October wasn't quite right...

TV3 stated it would be starting in October but with the Family problems that Keith Barry has had, I am guessing they are giving him sometime, which is only fair.

Scheduled for Friday week- bit strange though - it's going to be halved up with Coronation Street in the middle:
    8.00 Deal On No Deal
    8.30 Corrie
    9.00 Deal Or No Deal

Basically doing what RTÉ did with WWTBAM? It allows them to have viewers stay with TV3 rather than turning over to RTÉ One for the News or for EastEnders.

TV3 want Friday night to be theirs from 7pm

Emmerdale, Coronation St., Deal Or No Deal, Coronation St., Deal or No Deal and then we can all tune in to RTÉ One again.

It should work out well for them. Is the National Lottery still sponsoring Coronation St?

Went along to the pilot showing today, and must say the set design is much better than the UK one, and Keith Barry is quite a good host, did a much better than the likes of Marty Whelan and such. Ran alot better than Winning Streak imo. Looking foward to seeing the broadcast versions. And it's one game split over the two shows with Corrie in the middle.

Good to hear they have gone with a different set. Are the rules the same?

I guessed it would be the one game over 2 shows again it makes sense so people will wait until the end of the Coronation St to see the outcome.

I like Marty Whelan on Winning Streak TBH, I don't watch it that often only saw it when he started doing it.

It follows the format used in most countries, 26 boxes, first round open 6 boxes, second open 5 boxes, third round 4 boxes so on...

Box openers are members of the public known as the 'green box club' as well as the contestants family and friends.

The set is two tiered with half the boxes on an upper level and the rest on a lower level, it's decorated with money vaults, which light red when the banker rings, and the screen that displays the money left in game splits in two for the host and contestant to enter.

Aw I actually can't wait to see it now. Good to hear that you think it's better set than the UK one. I was just imagining a cheap version when I first heard the idea - but I really hope this works out for the lotto and TV3.

A friend of mine was in the audience and told me exactly what happened. I asked what about the confidentiality agreement. He said 'oh was that what I signed at the start' ah well.

In what order did the contestant pick the boxes :)

hey there i was one of the players at the pilot and am now a member of the green box club, its a great show, really hard working lovely people and the set and people are wonderful

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 letsbbetter

you should take the confidentiality agrrement seriously, whats the point in going to all that trouble to shoot these programmes where the outcome is supposed to be a surprise, ive done 6 now and would love to tell my friends and family but you just cant...

rules are the same only theres 26 boxes instead of 22 and the box openers are members of the players family and friends, it is un by the national lottery and thats how its different, the players are pulled out of a hat from all entrants

Less than four hours to go now - but pre-broadcast hype has been comparatively very little, hasn't it?

Wonder how much that will say about how well the show is going to do...

hi yea i know were all going out to look at it in a pub in town, id say ppl are just sceptical,, like an irish VERSION, theyre thinkin but i think once they see 1 episode theyll be hooked.... fingers crossed and enjoy,,,,

Shows that give out large sums of money for very little skill often do well. Most National Lottery TV Game Shows pull in an audience. So it will be unlikely that this won't do well for TV3, especially sandwiched between Coronation Street.

I will take a look but TBH shows that give out large sums of money for very little skill don't interest me (unless I am on them). I suppose for me it will just be a novelty.

I'm wondering, given that this thread has mostly dealt with the run-up to DOND Ireland, should it now be locked and a new thread created for general discussion of what takes place on the show, just like with THAT other game show on TV3?

It's not as bad as I feared it would be. Keith Barry was a little stiff but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as it was the first show.

My main problem was that it seemed very dragged out. It didn't flow as well as the UK version.
