Considering that WB have the rights to the films they can continue milking the Harry Potter franchise for as long as its making money. I think Harry's story is complete and they may look to other character to continue with it. Which characters story would you like it to be?

I would like to see what exactly happens to the Malfoys or the Weasley twins.

That meant to say Weasley twin! Can't remember which one died and which got their ear cut off.

Surely they only have rights to adapt the seven books and no more. I'm pretty sure Harry Potter, its' universe, characters etc etc still belongs to JK Rowling and nothing can happen without her say so.

However in the spirit of the thread, a look back on James, Sirius, Remus, Snape etc etc would be nice. :)

I thought I read somewhere that WB have all the rights as JK signed them over. Not sure, must check it out.

i think it would be cool actually to see the story of Regulus Black and the process of him turning against voldermort.

Dunno if idlike t see if on film but id like to read jk's prequel to harry potter,
the original order of the phoenix etc.

    wonder how that turns out?:pac:

I'd like to see a back story given to Voldemorts character development, think it would make an interesting film. Although this has been alluded to in the series, it was never really given the time it could have been.

I've always had an interest in more of the minor characters - McGonagall, Flitwick, Binns, Grey Lady etc. Finding out about them would be very interesting to me.

Maybe a look back at Dumbledore's youth. His time at Hogwarts, his short friendship with Grindelwald in Godric's Hollow etc.

I'd like to see something about James, Sirius, Remus, Peter Pettigrew and Snape in school. Lupin and Sirius must have ahd a lot of stories they never told Harry about in the boks, would be interesting to see something there. Or the original Order of the Phoenix as well, be pretty interesting like. Most likely one to actually happen seems to be the one about the kids though, considering the end of the last book.

I'd like to read the chapters that were dropped from the books, on Rowling's site she comments on chapters she had to drop to make the books read better, like information on Dean Thomas and his Dad and Draco Malfoy's friendship with Theodore Nott, Mafalda (Ron's cousin).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭Hermione*

There's so much I'd love to see, but the original order and the Regalus Blaack story would be especially good. More Snape stories would also be good!

I remember reading somewhere that J.K. Rowling had a whole back story for Dean Thomas that she never managed to get into any of the books. A friend told me that Rowling has lots of information on the Potterverse that never made it into books that she plans to publish it when all the films have been released. I would love to get such a book!

Yeah for me a prequel would be good, particularly 'The Rise of Voldermort'

    Dobby!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,234 ✭✭✭thetonynator

I'd like to read a book where she develops different characters, without going into too much detail, and have each one maybe 5 or 6 chapters long, and put several in the book.

e.g., Story of Dobby ( as mentioned above) would be prettuy short, but the story of Dobby, together with Voldemorts rise/dean thomas and whatever else she has written together might not be a bad thing!!!

I've always thought the films must be hard enough to follow, if you haven't read the books. Although that must be a small percentage of the film goers!

    /mod mode
RoRo Cullen, I edited your post to add spoiler tags. You need to place the text you wish to spoil within the two labels, i.e. SPOILER tag text to spoil SPOILER tag
    /mod mode

Yeah I know, for some reason it wouldn't work for me.

I agree with hermione . . must be impossible to follow without reading the books . .. .
especially the horcruxes seeing as they left it out of the 6th film . . .

But they have a big bonus in doing DH in two parts! They'll be able to exaplain everything! FINALLY.

Thats what I keep thinking everytime she mentions she might write another book.. It would be prefect, "The Mauders Series" !

    Please post on-topic!

i always thought Neville Longbottom would have made a great protagonist in his own novel, he really comes in to his own in Deathly Hallows and i was half thinking he might secretly be the "chosen one"

the bloke who plays him in the movies is actually a decent stage actor too

I'd like to see a background of the minor characters. The teachers, other students, the other two schools, Dumbledore and Voldy's youth, the original OOTP and the Mauraders and such. And the deatheaters, why they went to the dark side.
Basically everything that JK hasn't already been covered :o:D

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,661 Mod ✭✭✭✭Faith

I'd like to know things like, are any of the teachers married? Where are their husbands/wives?

Ohh I had a question the other night and I've completely forgotten it!

apparently JK Rowling is writting an 8th book. but this one will focus on Dudley. she said that Harry has had enough happen in his life and that the new book would focus on Dudleys and his son.... who... you gussed it, is a wizard and has to attend Hogwarts with harry and Rons kids (not the ones that had with each other :p).

    http://inewp.com/?p=2601

    its all there

i think it could be quite interesting!

This seems a bit suspicious since its on a publish your own news type site, and there's nothing about it on Leaky Cauldron or Mugglenet. I know JKR said before she has enough billions and gave the impression she wasnt delighted with the way it went with Warner (harry potter underwear etc), so basically said she wasnt writing any more books in the HP landscape unless it was a charity thing or whatever. She seemed to want to write a book under a pen name to prove that she could do something outside of HP.

Edit: er actually I see thats back in April, maybe there's an old news article on one of the sites somewhere...

A tv series would have been better IMO.

As for future books, the Marauders series has actually got me so excited.
    If only it would happen.

Oh and on an unrelated note, Sirius was NOT hot enough in the movies.
That truly disappointed me but then again all apart from DH disappointed me!

To be honest I would take any character being developed further as long as it was written by J.K.

Perhaps more of a historical background, the founding of Hogwarts.

For a split second I thought, sure isn't there already a book about that? Then I remembered it's "Hogwarts: A History" and it doesn't actually exist outside of the HP books. :o

Rise of Voldemort would definitely be something I'd want to read, plus original OOTP but that would probably be incorporated.

I'd love to see the story of Harry and Ginny be expanded on. Just to see how their future is dealt out, with the kids, etc. It'd be a very interesting read!

Tbh, Harry and Ginny always bored me, maybe it's just because I find the actress who plays her tortuously boring, but I never got excited that they were going to get together.

Ah really? I loved them! Luna Lovegood is one character who'd probably be very interesting to read, but the story couldn't really go anywhere!

Gary Oldman wasn't hot enough?! Get outta town. The man's a prince.

On topic though, I'd say a bit of background on Voldemort would be a great movie. WB wouldn't even have to change the format of the other Harry Potter films: show his early life, growing up in the orphanage and the like. Something to really get inside his head. IMO Warner Brothers put too much of a silent-movie-villain spin on him. Had he a moustache, he'd have twirled it.

Same applies to a book/film about the Marauders. No major changes to the story arc at all and it'd be great to see just how much of a dick Harry's dad was in school.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,816 ✭✭✭Acacia

I agree with the previous poster on Voldemort's back story getting devloped properly, as it was in the book. It's the least WB could do really, after leaving most of out of this crucial plot information in "The Half-Blood Prince" film to concentrate instead on Ron and Lavender's boring-ass relationship.

    *grumble* *grumble* *hates "HBP"* :p
