Muscular male bodies, which do you prefer?

After a small discussion with a friend about gyms, bodybuilding, etc. etc. it came up in conversation about (two main) different types of muscular bodies that float about the wrestling world (we were originally talking about WWE).

So my question (while primarily aimed at the females, but more than open to men, too) is which type of body do you think looks better?

Do you think the better of these two is the bulky, thick, big muscular body Like Batista or Lesnar have...

    batista1.jpgBrockLesnar.jpg

Or do you think a thinner, sleaker body like Orton or Angle is better looking...

    orton_280x390_415899a.jpgkurt-angle-wrestler-366x350.jpg

Of course both body types would require a lot of maintenance etc. and would be rare enough amongst the average joes of the world, but I'm just quite curious to other people's thoughts on it.

Which do you prefer? 14 votes

if i had to choose one, id go for the sleeker one, but to be perfectly honest i find them both a turn off.

They're both waaaaaay too muscley for my tastes tbh. Think I prefer a runner's or swimmer's type of build rather than the steroid-esque type (not to say all big muscle men are on steroids, but you know what I mean!).

I like skinny little fellas tbh, a bit of toning is okay, but any bit of bulk is a real turn off

Once they start glistening i tend to run a mile, I dont like any muscele at all, it really puts me off!!

Where's the 'Both are awful' option? :p

I would be afraid of being broken in two by all of them!!

Personally I'd prefer a lot smaller, still toned though. I do like Ami James though...generally less muscle and baby oil and fake tan.......

The 2 on top main put off is the built up muscle from shoulder to neck,...not attractive

seeing as all the options abuse steroids/prescription meds I shall pick none.

I always thought that the statue of David was the perfect example of a sleek yet muscular body:

Personally though, I'm not into muscular men. Mainly because I'm a boy and not a homosexual.

    Orton's quie hot!
    I like big thighs :p

Although, alot of the guys I tend to go for in real life are thin/average...

There's not many muscle guys out there, and I don't mean the body builder type..when they're huge it's a turn off

    They both look yuck.

I always go for skinny guys though, big muscles and six packs and all that are always a huge turn off for me.

+ 1 million. Wouldnt touch either of them with a barge pole.

I like nerds, especially cuddly nerds. They tend not to have bodies like that (thank god!). I'm not attracted to muscles in the slightest.

Yeah, they're both horrible, but the thinner ones are the lesser of two evils IMO.

Imagine going at it with someone as muscly as guy in the top photos. He'd be all oily and slippery and squishing you because he was so giant.

    ugh

I'd agree with Frada. That or the daVinci vibe.
Pillar8-Thought-and-Art-Vitruvian-Man-Leonardo-da-Vinci.jpg Looks more balanced somehow. Far more achievable too.

The wrestler look is a bit homo-erotic, in fairness. I can't really see many women being attracted to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭Hermione*

They all look awful imo. Wouldn't touch any of them.

    Athletic/sporty = good
Ability to snap me in two = bad.

Meh, I dont like the overly muscly look, but I dont like a guy that is too skinny either, Im with Frada on this one.....I like a mans back & stomach...Ive seen a pic recently that was one that made me go ohhhh now that is hawt...not to big...not too small....juuuuussst right. No pic Im afraid as Its a friends bod & Im sure he wouldnt like to see his pic here.

Yes, because they go around with oil on them ALL the time....

I love muscles...but I'd go with something in between the two options the OP put up. Just because I'm awkward. Don't like skinny men at all, there's too many skinny men around, I always want to give them a nice piece of steak.

    Definitely the leaner one!

I'm not big on muscles though, I don't like what they can represent.

I don't like the thought of men beefing up to impress women. There seems to be this growing pressure on both men and women to have a specific body type and shape to be desirable to the opposite sex. The idea of a man slaving down at the gym, killing himself to get a six pack, makes me really sad. It's sickening how shallow the world has seemingly become.

If I like someone, it's because of who they are as a person, as opposed to how big their pecks are!

I think people should improve themselves for themselves. I try to improve my body for me and I assume men who put that much effort in do it for more than trying to impress us ladies. Also it can be linked to a sport.

Although I don't find those men especially attractive, I do like a toned tummy (esp. tummy no "beer belly" allowed bar mine ;)).
I don't think a person's prefrences regarding the opposite sex can be deemed as shallow, to judge the whole person based upon their physical appearance alone would be shallow but to judge their physical attractivness on their appearance just makes sense.

That said I know I'm deemed shallow by some as I don't date fat men, it's a personal prefrence, I judge a man on more than looks but I need to be physically attracted to them.

The images shown are also not achievable by the average guy down the gym as three out of the four guys have been done for steroid abuse via the WWE's own wellness program and Sport illustrated busted a huge steroid ring last year which two of those guys were listed as part of.

No, i am implying that it is entirely possible people can just look large and ripped because it's a personal goal...rather than a way to attract the opposite sex.

Most of the really in shape people that i know....the physical manifestation is completely secondary to what they can actually do and acheive.

I think most of the ladies here are lying their arses off.

I agree I'm not built like any of them im very slender but I have maintained my goal in how i want my body to look and continue to maintain it and I'm very proud of the work i put in...

    I kinda have to agree.

I'm my experience a lot of ladies go down the whole "uggh i don't like all that muscle" route, but throw a few beers into the mix and they're all "oooh you're sooo big you must work out loads"!!

Plus isn't it an inate thing to be attracted to biggers guys who would have good proginy etc??? Like guys being attracted to girls with a slim waist and big hips??

actually no big guys like that normally equal small man bits and low sperm count as they only look like that due to drug abuse.

Secondly it society and culture that tells us that we must find this attactive but base attraction is almost always on smell and not on looks. You wouldn't find guys looking like that in a hunter gather society as massive bulk would be of no use, speed and mobility is more important. Read any wrestling bios and the guys will talk about being able to go out and move for the 10 to 20 mins they are in the ring but outside they are in bits.

I meant in an animalistic inbuilt way, and that comment is very unfair tbh.

Unfair on guys who put in hours and hours of training just for someone to pass it off with an "ah thats just steroids" comment, regardless of wether the person chooses to use or not

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 13,425 ✭✭✭✭Ginny

No attraction to those guys at all, I see a good number of big guys in the gym everyday and honestly feel no attration to any of them.
I much prefer a normal guy, neither skinny nor overtly muscular.

Over specilising is slow death though. If you take any top end athlete and ask them to do something physical that is very far removed from there normal actions they would be wrecked as well. When you make you body really good at certain things it tends to suffer a little at others.

To be honest, i think society and culture tells people to like a whole different kind of man....the same architype that is repeated over and over in the "what makes you drool" thread.

3 of the 4 guys used for this poll have used drugs to get their current forum, this isn't just a random comment. Randy Orton was listed in March '07 along with a bunch of other wwe stars in Sports illustrated as part of a big steroid/internet pharmacy bust. He obtained testosterone and a bunch of other drugs illegally. Kurt Angle was also listed in the sports illustrated piece and he failed a WWE wellness policy steroid test. Bautista was accused of anabolic steroid abuse in August 07 relating to a piece by ESPN on a crack down on a clinic in south Florida. Look at Angle's forum during the Olympics and look at it now at TNA to see the difference.
