Figure some of the folks in here might be interested in this.
Video Games Live are performing in the National Concert hall.

They're an orchestra that play video game themes, with a big video screen showing clips from the games. Most of it tends toward the retro.. donkey kong mario etc..

Gotta get myself to this, although it does sound like a Nerd magnet, an accident here and no one will be left to buy retro goodies, hmmm......

You guys all go, I'll be buying some fertiliser and some timers online....

The only album I have of theirs is Run/Stop Restore. It's really great though. Must get some more.

I've seen them live a couple of times as well. Very good. Rock and C64 all in one. What could be better? x-)

That Tommy Tallarico guy did the soundtrack to Cool Spot, very memorable. I think I'll check this out.

And the earthworm jim soundtracks and advent rising. Think his soundtrack for advent rising was the only decent thing about that game.

Rock and Megadrive...although nobody has really done it too good yet. Megadriver is good but a little meh, I want something with a bigger production value :pac:

Love chiptune/circuit bending stuff though. Usk, Nullsleep & Bit Shifter to name but a few. This years Blip Festival was just on a few days ago I think. Wish I could have gone!

I am going to so drag the Girlfreind to this. :), Geek fest ahoy! now Who would be wearing there Gaming shirts to this?

It's kind of hilarious looking at the youtube videos of this. There's a philharmonic orchestra playing yet at the start of every song you'd swear the crowd were at an AC/DC gig and Thunderstruck had started up.

I'm trying to go but I have no mates who are into this, damn, just bought tickets to Kila and Eddie Izzard as well, may be tricky to swing another concert! Especially if I'm going solo!

I wonder if there will be a leaning towards Tallarico's own compositions, because they are simply less known than the great Nintendo themes, I mean, do we really want to hear Earthworm Jim or would we prefer a medley of Zelda pieces?

Just bought the tickets Whoop Whoop! My Gf is all for the bioshock music which will rock!. We will be dressed as mario and peach so look for us:confused::confused::confused:

(Just in case you didn't see in the other thread)

There are tickets still available, but I don't know about buying them at the door. I have to pick my tickets up at a machine so would imagine they'll have a box office too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 519 ✭✭✭TygerKrash

Looks like there are only tickets for the 3.30 show, not the 8pm tomorrow. (at least from looking at the website).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

Who's going to the 3.30 show?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,565 ✭✭✭✭Tallon

That was excellent and the meet and greet at the end was brilliant as well. The guys were really sound. Got my CD signed by the guys. I'll be there nextr year!

Great show last night.Even my wife enjoyed it and she doesn't do "video games".Pretty funny comments after the 14 year old had done the Guitar Hero challenge:D.Definitely going to this again next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 693 ✭✭✭rgfuller

I went to the 3.30 show - thoroughly enjoyed it even if the hall wasn't full, will definitely plan to see it again if/when they come back.

Also bought the CD which I listened to last night - great stuff for a tenner!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 276 ✭✭Dark Savior

Did the person at the 3.30pm show win the arcade challenge?? The guy at the 8.00pm show came close with 2 maybe 3 invaders left.He must be sickened to be so close to winning a nice mame set-up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 693 ✭✭✭rgfuller

No such luck - his strategy was wrong - he left a full width of invaders for most of the 2 mins and had quite a few left when the time ran out - he also used about 7 'lives', not a space invaders player at all I'd say.

How did the guitar hero guy do at 8pm - the 3.30pm kid tried on expert but failed before the end (maybe a bit of lag looking at the big screen), he got to retry on hard and scored about 140k.

We had Chris from Family Guy play at 8pm. He got well over 200,000 in expert but failed at 93% mark. I say it was due to lag during the end solo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 170 ✭✭djsim

I must admit, I thought that it was a great show. The family travelled up from Limerick to watch it, and even though we kinda got lost travelling from Dublin (ended up on the galway road) the show was great.

I was well impressed with the musical score of warcraft (never played it:pac:)
I also liked the retro section at the start. Will attend next year again the show comes back.

    Yeah There was annoying lag.

You did really well. I can only struggle through the easy songs on hard at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭ghostchant

Was a great show, loved the megaman, chrono trigger & metroid sections. Fair play to you Dean, what exactly did you win? (can't remember the list of things he'd mentioned beforehand)

Kudos for asking to play on Expert (knowing that you'd score more points with more notes ;))
