Pure Mule was a pretty accurate account of claustraphobic small town life where everyone knows everyone else's business.
The "last weekend" series was ok, but weaker than the first series with many questions left unanswered-
-Many of the original characters were not present.
-Scobie's Mam had a personality transplant with hair like a dead badger.
-Cliff was walking around the house in Scobie's boxers like he owned the place.
-Jen's sisters Cop hubby was played by a different actor- "we'll be grand!"
    -What happened "Aubergine" restaurant?
-Poor old Bomber was sadly missed.
    -Where was Scobie's buddy "Nialler's?"
-Where was the publican's wife who had the boob job?
    -Overkill of the word "Jaysus"
-The sadly missed Tom Murphy as the virgin "Shamie" in Oz with Bomber's ex and fellow virgin, "Therese"

All in all, a satisfactory conclusion to the series which was filmed in Birr, Banagher and Shannonbridge (The Power station Chimney stacks which can be seen in the background of the street scenes were demolished a few months ago)

    Pure F***ing Mule BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The full DVD set comes out in the 13th November, that was the info I got from the net anyway.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

I think this series is acted, scripted and shot very professionally. And it is one of the best mini-serials of its generation.

I will be the first to admit that it has too many silent moments of reflection with superficial (but well produced) shots of the midlands.

Is it funny? no is it supposed to be? well their is Humour in it but it isn't the be all and end all of the series nor should it be for any drama but it should be included.

I think it is a reflection of Ireland not just the midlands. It also makes the point that we all have to grow up at some stage.

But what are people comparing this series to? The Wire? And to be honest I can't think of any thing really really good that you could compare this series to.

Look at the fake and immature programming coming from the states and Britain. Pure Mule is way above the superficial lives of characters in: -

    The Bill
    Private Practice
    Grey's An...
    Lost
    CSI
    Law & Order
    Skins
    90210
    Gossip Girl
    etc etc

Do any of these shows reflect life in any way? NO.

Well not sure if you can compare Pure Mule with any of those programmes. Lost for a start is pure escapism.
Yes but Pure Mule very good and felt if they had the budget they could have stretched it to a second series.

Another good Irish show you should check out is Bachelors Walk
it was made in the early 'oo's. the first season was brillant the second not as good as they start bringing in too many new characters.
