just had a glance at my balance there and it's frightening.

    balance: 1450
    savings: 2500

my outgoings per month are roughly 1200 which leaves me with f all money for the month :( oh and i have a loan also which still has another 5k to be paid off (probably not a good idea to have savings then i know). this ain't going to be a charitable month for me.

    loan+rent = torture

You're all going to hate me but I've got more money now than ever.

I don't owe anybody anything and I'm raking it in due to my astute patenting of the phrase "in these recessionary times".

Poor enough I have to live on 100 a week, wealthy enough I can live in a 4 bedroom apartment in Rathmines with only one other person.

Best advice is always try and live within your means.Trust me YOU wil feel a lot better!Member people are not that great with money JUST NEED A LOT MORE SELF DISCIPLINE! O nly pat back the loan when you can on your terms they cant do much! Never go hungry just pay your rent and food take it from there!

Not too bad, a large chunk of my wage goes towards a loan but I have a little bit of savings and if I lose the aul job then the payment protection should kick in.

There was a time when my card was maxed and current account in constant overdraft, so in comparison, I'm laughing.

Small personal loan, mortgage and about to lose my job but I have a few pennies tucked away. Ask me again in a year.

I've about 450 until the end of the month, going away on sunday so i'm taking it all wtih me !

Other than that I tend to be alright, gotta start saving though.

fair play to all those with their money sorted, wish i could say the same about myself. at least i've fully paid off my credit card and that i've no overdraft. although i still get depressed about the whole thing from time to time. job insecurity is not helping matters and i fear i could be on the dole quite soon which would be pain.

No loans, no debt. Good savings, never bought into the Celtic Tiger wealth trap which was really all debt.

I'd have no financial problems if I could just get rid of the 3000 crates of bottled snake-oil that I siphoned out of the septic tank.

    I'm moronic with Cash.
I save on food & entertainment all week but still find myself looking at this crap online every monday morning:

    SAT: 00:22 POS-DICEY GAR -€50.00
    SAT: 02.10 POS-GRFTN ST. AIB -€60:00

Ha, good stuff. Still doesn't compare to me though waking one morning with almost 400 in my wallet. Rang the bank to be sure I hadn't mugged and killed somone. Knowing I had a wedding the next day I dutifully went to the ATM at about 3 in the morning and withdrew the guts of 200 euro. Then, about 7 minutes later in my inebriated state remembered I needed money for the next day and went and withddrew the same again - obviously forgetting I had already just been. Scary.

Wait, how do you spent 1,200 in a month. I couldn't do that if i tried.

Well, ok, i could, but i'd have to buy coke and hookers to make it happen. maybe even hookers made out of coke.

no dole, no job, no savings... odd jobs here and there. wife covers mortgage for now. may turn house into holiday home and split.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 567 ✭✭✭Paulyh

pretty screwed myself!! payout nearly 1000 a month on loan, then 450 rent (half of 900, apartment withn girlfriend).......not left with much to live on. own a house with an ex, which we are looking to sell. so hopefully we'll get a good enough price to clear the mortgage and loan on it:eek:

my life is pretty much on a stand still until i repay my loans in 2 or 3 years!! its quite stressful thinking about it, which i do alot......but as soon as i win the lotto everything will be alright:D

i went a bit wild with borrowing in my younger days......'if the banks offered me the money, i would take it without thinking'. so lived way beyond my means, and paying for it now........
but, there's not a whole lot i can do about now, just keep on truck'in!!

    rent 400
    loan 350
    phone 20
    food 250-300
    petrol 60
sometimes some other random stuff thrown in

    all adds up :(

OP, why do you have savings AND a loan? Doesn't make sense. Pay some of the loan off with the savings and you'll save more money.

I'm on the dole and saving €160 per week, no loans or credit cards, off to Australia in 7 weeks.

(I collected €20,000 in debt and only paid it off last year)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 766 ✭✭✭mkdon05

Theres a little saying in the accountancy world that "CASH IS KING""
meaning you should always have some cash at your disposal.
If the OP paid the 2500 off the 5k loan, i would deem this a bad move.

this is why i'm afraid to pay it off sooner as i don't know if i'll be working in a few months down the line. if i use the 2.5k to pay it off i might not have any money at hand and i'll rightly be up **** creek.

let see.... 600 overdraft from one bank and 650 overdraft from another bank both of which are compleetly overdrawn. bout 4000 borrowed from my parents overall, but in installments of 100's, so i dont actualy have any money. Any saving i had are compleetly gone on rent/food/esb.
work full time for no pay as part of a college placement (dont get me wrong, love the place im working, but money would be a massive help), coz my hours arent set i cant have a part time job at the same time.

have to find 550 of a deposit by next week for my new house, so have a notion what i am going to do bout that.

Just got paid this morning and with rent, food, transport, savings and bills I will have about 270 to spend for the month.

that's actually loads for me so I'm happy! I suppose, it's all relative to circumstance.. no mortgage, credit cards, loans, don't drink or smoke... So thank God for that now...

    Scary times

How do you manage that when the Dole is what 200 notes a week, are you living on a redundancy payout (just as a matter of interest).

Have a mortgage, but no other debt, did have a credit card bill that I could never seem to clear as i was always sticking stuff on it (pure luxuries) but have knuckled down the last couple of months - am now actually saving from this months pay packet :), its been tough having to cut back but its well worth it (just wish i'd done it sooner!)
