Played through Typing of the Dead last night. Been wanting to play it again for ages but never got around to it. The stress of typing on a keyboard I'm not used to!

I forgot that it analyses your typing, I consider myself pretty quick with typing so I must practice with the keyboard and get my scores up.

As I said before, Skyward isn't a bad game. It's just what you describe gets very tiresome before the end.

Not sure if this counts, but I just finished AM2R tonight (on PC). I thought Nintendo had yanked this years ago, but after recently finishing Zero Mission, I said I’d take a look, and not only is it available, but it has its own site and is at v1.5

Suffice to say it’s absolutely excellent, and I can’t recommend it highly enough to any Metroid fans (or any metroidvania fans for that matter)

As a Nintendo release, it would be top-notch, but for a fan-made game, the polish and quality is just amazing

Nintendo got a lot of stick for yanking that game but they did the right thing. Just like Sega with the Streets of Rage fan made game they let it be released before they sent the cease and desist. It meant the game would still be out there and distributed while they protected their own IP.

And have to agree, the game is awesome.

Played some Downhill Domination on PS2. It's like SSX but on mountain bikes so lots of big air and tricks. Mountain biking isn't represented much in gaming so I was expecting some budget title but it plays decent enough from what I can see. Might be worth picking up at some point. It's cool to see a lot of big brands in the game so there's actual bikes, branded upgrade parts, real world clothing brands etc.

Not sure how much I'm enjoying Sonic Mania - sometimes I get into a zone with it where it feels like the Sonic game I've been waiting for years, amazing little game mechanics throughout the levels, gorgeous visuals, level remixes from the original games which really press the nostalgia button, brilliant little touches like the Shinobi sound effects for one of the ninja bosses...

But then I find myself hoping some levels will just bloody end when I start hitting the 5 minute + mark, similar to Sonic 3. There's nothing more enraging than spending 5-7 minutes on stage 1, the same on stage 2 and then dying stupidly somewhere towards the end. Chances of going back to try it again? Not this evening anyway!

I'm currently doing one Zone a night, up to Hydrocity tonight which I am sure with all the drowning and terrifying countdown sounds I'm going to rage quit at some point

Yeah the levels are a little bit too long I found. There can be a bit of a whiff of Sonic CD to the level design at times as well but it's nowhere near as bad.

Felt Mania strangely takes too many cues from things like Freedom Planet in terms of level pacing. Which is some "The Simpsons aping Family Guy" levels of being derivative of something that was derivative of you in the first place.

As soon as it installs I'll be playing Quake, from the comfort of my sick bed, on my Switch.

    Loved that game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,507 ✭✭✭DaveyDave

That's how I feel. It's good fan service and there's a lot to like but it drags on at times. The game was a bit broken when I played it too, I beat the oil ocean boss after a surprising amount of attempts then it glitched and I died somehow and haven't touched it since, that was back when it came out. I was thinking about giving it a go though but it's the first game I've rage quit in a very long time.

An FYI for Quake, on Switch at least.

They've included two brand new episodes made my Machine gun Games.

    And, they've included Quake 64!

You download it in the add-ons menu.

They don't mention the superb Saturn port by name though, just that it was on a "32 bit system" which is a pity.

But the N64 port looks pretty good, lower resolution but it has very nice lighting effects.

    Plus, it's free!

I wonder if they have anything else planned.

It plays like a dream on PC. Rumours of a Quake announcement at Quakecon but this release might just be it. 25 years old now....

Related to Machine Games involvement in this version of Quake, they’re apparently making a port of Exhumed which will include PlayStation and Saturn versions.

Thanks @Retr0gamer! Not sure how I got them confused.

Nightdive worked on the Quake port, Machine games made the two new expansions. Easy mistake to make in fairness!

I like to give Nightdive their fair due as they are doing gods work on PC when it comes to retro games. Their Turok remaster made me realise that it's actually a really good FPS game.

Agreed about Turok remaster, I had blast playing it on PC without the fog!

Looking forward to Exhumed. Played the Saturn game a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it, felt like a proto Metroid Prime and I still don't know how they got it looking and running so well on Saturn. I never played the PS1 version but heard it was pretty good as well so interesting to see what a combination of PS1 and Saturn entails.

For some reason the Saturn got Quake while the PS did not.

And the Saturn port was pretty great.

Now, yes, they had to make allowances, but it still played like the PC game.

Still have that, upstairs, along with Exhumed

Very impressed with how well multiplayer Quake runs on the Switch, it's really calling out for a gang to get together and play through coop!

They did everything right with that port. From the myriad of settings and extras to the very reasonable price. Deserves to sell by the bucketload.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

It's pretty much free as well on pc if you own it on steam.

    I wholeheartedly agree.

It's part of PC Game Pass, but I'm probably going to buy the Switch version - Hard to say no at €10.

I was the same, I have it in Steam and Gamepass, but the Switch version is great

I liked that game for a very early ps1 game but when the ps2 was out I picked up a copy for 2 euro and at that stage it really felt like it had aged badly and wasn't all that great.

Uncharted 3 Remastered on the PS4 Pro. About half way through now, short enough game so far. Enjoying it though, being a sucker for highly polished linear narrative driven games! It's odd though, the last big AAA game I played was TLOU2, so it's weird going into rooms in Uncharted 3 and not scavenging every corner of every room for ammo/supplies etc. I plan to finish this, and play Uncharted 4 maybe over the Christmas, and finish out the series.

I remember when it came out and how so many people loved it, while simultaneously learned how to pronounce "trilogy".

But Alien Resurrection was so much better, though it was much later in the consoles life, plus it came with mouse support.
