Started Persona 3 the other day on a long bus ride. Enjoying it so far.

I'd played 6-7 hours of Persona 4 previously and have kept meaning to go back to it. Think I'll stick off with 3 first and see that through.

I love Falcom's RPGs. Glad to see the rest of the series is coming to PC.

I have that giant Falcom 30th Anniversary book but haven't checked if those games are in it yet. When was the first one released? It's an exhaustive encylopedia of everything Falcom have done. Soundtracks, games, merchandise etc and art. Hopefully it's featured in there. Trails in the Sky and Y's are just gorgeous.

If you buy Killzone before Persona 4 I'll call over to your house and personally slap you.

Don't worry if I was to get one it would definately be Persona 4 but I've just waaaay too many games to play right now.

By the time I have time to play it ill be able to pick up a physical copy for about 20quid is say. It's one I'd want the physical copy of anyway.

As for killzone I'm not a huge modern fps fan to be fair I was more so just mentioning the value really. Only modern fps I play is the halo series.

On a sort if related note Mario 3D World arrived today in the post to my shock. Ordered it weeks ago thought it was lost in the post actually. Christmas miracle.

Legend of Heroes has been going for a long time, it's a spin-off of the Dragon Slayer series. The first two Dragon Slayer: Legend of Heroes games were on a load of different platforms. Namco released the first trilogy in the series on PSP and absolutely messed that up. The localisation was terrible and they released the games out of order with the second game being released first and the script being destroyed in the process of trying to make a new continuity fit.

Trails in the Sky is the start of the second trilogy. Some of the guys in XSeed had been fighting for years to bring the series to the West.

We are now 5 games behind the series in the west. I just hope XSeed find a way to bring them out here. They are really fighting for it even if the only viable platform for them seems to be steam.

I played the first dozen hours or so of Trails in the Sky recently. It's a well put together game, no doubt, but the gameplay, story and characters just didn't grab me the way they did in Ys Seven or Oath in Felghana. I drifted away to something else, especially since the general consensus is it's a rather long game indeed. Must get back to it - a really good game, but have just been spoiled by Ys!

Persona 4 is my favourite jrpg of all time , you go in alone in one amazing journey coming out with characters you wish your friends were half as interesting and fun as :L

Really keen to try Y's Seven. The PSP LE is pricey though... :(

I don't think you find anyone talking about the orginial persona , that is very personal

Would you not just buy the dirt cheap digital download version  Whatever about wanting to own an LE copy, bit crazy to not play it because of that!

Always find it a strange little coincidence that both my favourite game and film are both called Persona, even though they couldn't be further from each other!

The original Persona is kind of weird. It's very old school and along the lines of the SNES Shin Megami Tensei games being a first person dungeon crawler. Some people love it, mostly due to nostalgia though since it was quite a big RPG release on the PS1 just before FFVII threw the whole genre in the mainstream. The general consensus I've heard is that's not very good and what I played of it's it's a very slow game.

It does however have one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. It's unfortunate that Shoji Meguro recomposed the soundtrack for the PSP release because while it's not bad it's a no where near as good as the PS1 release.

On the other hand the PS1 release of the game has about 50% of the game content cut from it in English.

I've tried to get into Persona 1 twice now, and while there were moments when it captured my attention, the pace was aggressively broken when I came up against another bland first person corridor full of seemingly endless random battles. The balance is just off, a fight taking place every couple of steps. When there's a corridor that could hold an item, it just boils down to 'Ugh. More fights. Is it really worth it?'. I know that's half the point, but christ it gets frustrating quickly. Of its time, no doubt, but nearly impossible to get into after the near perfection of the PS2 games.

I really don't mind first person dungeon crawlers, in fact since Etrian Odyssey I absolutely adore them. However for them to work they need a very fast paced battle system and the one in Persona really drags. It's a shame especially since it's an SMT game, a series known for fast paced battles (you aim to finish in one round otherwise you are in trouble).

I think Atavans wimmins go through a few of them.

Christmas eve, lashing rain, all is settled, all is well, a tipple at my side & I'm off to free Zelda from Turtle Rock, & then on to battle Ganondorf....ah yes, Christmas as it should be :)

I'm playing Tomb Raider 1. I bought the GoG 1,2 and 3 collection. It's a bit of a joke though because it didn't work for me straight out of the box, I had to do a lot of fiddling with it to get it working and can only get it working properly in a Window.

It's also the 3DFX version of the game which is far inferior to the Power VR version which is how I remember playing it. It had loads more subtle graphical effects.

My 7 year old and I played Monkey Island today, pretty cool fun.

That's the one I had, the latter, not the former, very nice indeed.

Spent some time last night playing Image Fight II. What. A. Game.

My God is it difficult but it is so rewarding. Fast becoming one of my favourite STG's ever. :)

At the parents house for crimbo, so got a gaming area setup. See attached.
Have the SNES with Mario Allstars, DKC, Zombie Ate my Neighbours and Sunset Riders.
Got The Last of Us on the PS3 for ~€25.
The 27GB download took 7 hours. Not bad for the sticks in Offaly.
    Happy Xmas Arcade and Retro.

Realised the wii that I hadn't played in yonks has great games (I know :P). Got donkey kong country returns, it seems somehow even better than originals. It also has time trial features which I don't get the hate for, people say they are cheap way of gettin replayability but I like the specific challenge. Took me about 100 or so goes to get a gold on the first level but it was the most satisfying bit of gaming I've done in years.

Also super mario galaxy. Never was the biggest mario fan and it is quite straightforward but the artistic and game design creativity is an absolute master class. It inspires me to even want to make games again. Just pure ingenuity. I'm only a small bit into it as well so getting all the stars hopefully will be somewhat challenging.

These two games have made me want to game again. Maybe nintendo games have been my gaming-soulmates all along I just never really found them. They are making the most out of every bit of hardware without it being tacky or forced.

Really good stuff. Galaxy 2 will be a definite future purchase as I've read it improves on the first. Any other good shouts for wii? Never played zelda. I like platformers so Rayman Origins seems like another definite purchase.

Galaxy 2 is the game no one was looking for but became an essential title in the Wii library.
    No More Heroes is impressive.
Mario Kart Wii, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Excite Truck, Sin Vs Punishment, Rayman Origins, Zelda Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Pikmin 1&2 and that's just off the top of my head.

Decided to fire up the cab tonight, swapped out ESP. Ra. De. for Strikers 1945 II (o1s1n reminded me I hadn't played them in ages). Levels are short but great fun, the bullet patterns on some of the bosses really are lovely (and deadly! :pac:).

What are you doing up in the middle of the night playing your cab? Couldnt sleep with the wind and rain?!!

I've played more Strikers I I than any shmup. It's nice and short so you can bung it in and get some satisfaction in 15 minutes. I can't loop it yet but I got to the last boss once I think.

Did you have a heart attack when you realized the house you were in at the start of the game and then looked at the map? I know I did! :)

Finished Mass Effect 3 last night, can't see what all the fuss about the ending was about. Shoot aliens, blow up stuff, game over :)

Same here. It was a great game and despite the ending sucking the story wasn't any great shakes to begin with, it was just a bog standard fantasy story with a sci-fi reskin. Take away the sci-fi look and you've got the same story about the big acient evil that was sealed away coming back to destroy the universe but whis time with space elves, space dwarves and space orcs.

I've moved to the dark side. I played basically no retro goodness over the Christmas and instead got stuck into Forza on the Xbox One :o

I've been away from my arcade machine so thats my excuse :)
