Sing is seriously stretching the description, but. Give a belt of might be more apt. :D

Give a belt of. Get Mods to change thread title. That's it exactly. BTW not going to reply to all the posts cos it exposes me for the narcissistic cnut that I am, but haven't seen a bad tune posted yet. I'll sit back and enjoy what's coming and I have seen the later posts lads. Does anyone know the words to "Sam Hall"? It's one of my faves, and there's a pint for any man/woman who knows the words to "The jug of punch"

I usually break into a version of Harry Chapin's Taxi .

You see, she was gonna be an actress
And I was gonna learn to fly.
She took off to find the footlights,
And I took off for the sky.
    And here, she's acting happy,
    Inside her handsome home.
And me, I'm flying in my taxi,
    Taking tips, and getting stoned,
I go flying so high, when I'm stoned

Yes - this is a popular song when we have sing-a-longs with mates when drink has been taken

We also are quite fond of Foxtrot, uniform, charlie, kilo. A group of us went camping last February ad we sang it every 10 minutes or so!

Usually Fiddler's Green if I'm singing on my own.

Or a family favourite, Aul Johnny Bugger. I've never heard it anywhere bar at my family's parties.

    The Parting Glass

Oh all the money e'er I had,
I spent it in good company.
And all the harm I've ever done,
Alas it was to none but me.
And all I've done for want of wit
    To mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all

Oh, all the comrades e'er I had,
They're sorry for my going away,
And all the sweethearts e'er I had,
They'd wish me one more day to stay,
But since it falls unto my lot,
That I should rise and you should not,
I gently rise and softly call,
That I should go and you should not,
Good night and joy be with you all.

If I had money enough to spend,
And leisure time to sit awhile,
There is a fair maid in this town,
That sorely has my heart beguiled.
Her rosy cheeks and ruby lips,
I own she has my heart in thrall,
Then fill to me the parting glass,
Good night and joy be with you all.

    Always.

Back Home In Derry, Black Is The Colour, City of Chicago..

I learned everyone of those songs growing up on the Southside of Chicago.

I even break out the guitar for Back Home In Derry.

"The night was icy cold I stood along
I was waiting for an army foot patrol
And when at last they came into my sight
I squeezed the trigger of my armalite

Oh mama, oh mama comfort me
For I know these awful things have got to be
But when the war for freedom has been won
I promise you I'll put away my gun.

A shot rang out, I heard a soldier cry
"Oh please don't leave me here alone to die"
I realized his patrol had run away
And left their wounded comrade for me to slay.

Oh mama, oh mama comfort me
For I know these awful things have got to be
But when the war for freedom has been won
I promise you I'll put away my gun.

"There's nothing in this world I would not do
If there's mercy in your heart you'll let me live"
And in his eyes I saw a look of pain
As the mussel of my gun moved towards his brain.

Oh mama, oh mama comfort me
For I know these awful things have got to be
But when the war for freedom has been won
I promise you I'll put away my gun.

The dawn was breaking as I reached my base
I will not forget the look on that boy's face
Fear, agony, and torment where all there
Oh but to your memory, mother, his life I spared.

Oh mama, oh mama comfort me
For I know these awful things have got to be
But when the war for freedom has been won
I promise you I'll put away my gun."

Beautiful ballad. Sang it tonight infact :)

    Black is the colour

recently was at a wedding in spain- we ended up in the jacuzzi at midnight screeching every song we knew and more we didnt, ended up with a dark blurry video of what is now known as the jacuzzi gang howling "he's got the whole world in his hands" *inserting name of random spanish guests* ..........

The Streets of New York is a favourite when I'm drunk. The Fairytail of New York is another. Thankfully I can sing both well.

When you are travelling and you see the long haired wánker with the guitar checking in to the hostel - that's you when you get up to sing anywhere at any time.
