Sounds good. I aim to be back for about lunch time so a quick enough out and back would be nice.

Reckon I should be in. My back and knees are wrecked, but I've decided to target the Sean Kelly so I have to HTFU and get out there.

possibly in. not been out on the road bike since the W200, what with holidays and stuff. It might need a bit of work first!

Riding your bike is the best way to get rid of a hangover.

Naw, recent research has shown that lying in bed in a darkened room with a bidon of water and a bucket of paracetamol within easy reach is much more effective, especially if followed by a breakfast roll approximately 12 hours after going to bed in the first place.

impressive female:male ratio going on here so far.....i'm interested to see where we'll end up if we're left in charge of the directions? :D

We probably won't get lost so much because you won't be as reluctant to a.) admit we are actually lost and b.) ask directions from a local.

    nice. my kinda cycling :D
I'd say johnny foxes does a mean appletini

Would I be right in saying something like stepaside-glencullen-pine forest road-sally gap-bohernabreena kind of thing. Decent pace so we're home in time for lunch and an afternoon of watching the tour while drinking euro-approved bottled beers??

gluttons for punishment can keep going to laragh.......

That works for me, or even the other way around - that's actually harder :P

I'm in, but might not stick around for the whole day as I need to do a bit of DIY in the afternoon.

There's nothing to stop you turning off to ride the Wicklow Gap on your own.

I'm in. I have to fit my new chain and cassette, but I'm heading out on the beer, so if I don't get it done it's another day of grinding away in an awful gear.

Unless Tonto wants to cycle over, I'll make you a cup of tea before I leave. You can let yourself out :)

    Sorry, working this evening.

Ordinarily I'd do it for you in the morning, but I've a few errands to run tomorrow before the spin.

Ah I was kidding don't worry, I need the practice anyway, haven't changed a cassette yet (don't worry, have all the tools).

I'm also looking forward to tackling the hills with my limited gearing again :)

I'm in. Am on for Laragh/Wicklow Gap, but ideally would like to make it home for 2pm or thereabouts so maybe I'm kidding myself.

I should be in for this. Might go over the Wicklow gap too - I haven't been that way since last autumn.

I'd like to try the WW gap, but I *will* slow people down, so if Laragh in involved, i might do it bacause I love the descent, but i will return via the easyer waterfall.

Where is the wicklow gap on a map?

One of the fastest descents in Wicklow

yeah it's a lovely descent. Bit of a yeuchy drag out to the N81 though once you pass the turn off for Valleymount/The Lakes.

Do you have cycle home through Naas and all? Just to remind you all that Oxegen is on this weekend ans KAOS awaits anyone who travel through there.

hehehehe rain on oxegen day Muahahaha

The descent away from Laragh is long and gentle; you still go over Bohernabreena after it.

Doing it the other way the descent into Laragh is fast, one of the best in the country.

Doing Sally Gap and Wicklow Gap is usually around 115km loop from Dundrum the way we usually go, it is possible to do it shorter though either. Generally go around the lakes and then over Bohernabreena, NOT the N81.

@Dirk- changing a cassette is very easy, just make sure to grease the lockring and put all the cogs on in the right order with spacers in between. Might need a bit of elbow to get the old lockring off.

Cheers for the advice Blorg. I'm not worried by the work, just that I am under a bit of a time constraint, have to head out soon and don't fancy working on my bike. Thinking I will just stick with the old chain/cassette for tomorrow (famous last words?). I don't think I can work on my bike without cleaning it, which also takes time :)

I'm up for a bit of wicklow gap too, stop in Laragh is happening right?

Huh? Any boards spin I've been on that went over the Wicklow Gap went home via the N81. Tis very quick. Anyway, moot point for me as I'll probably have to turn off before that. Unless anyone wants to start at 8?

Only other thing is to make sure you get the splines all right too, it's easy enough to get the smallest cog not quite lined up on the splines.

Any boards spin that went over the Wicklow Gap YOU went home via the N81 you mean. It's a manky cycle through Tallaght. Bohernabreena is just as quick, I have met you in Templeogue more than once where the routes come back together.

No, I meant everyone on the spin went down the N81. I think the only time I met you back in Templeogue was one night we were reccing a race course?

They don't go down the N81 when I am on the spin :) Only reason I would go that way would be if I had to pick something up in Cycle Super Store and even then I don't like it. The descent off Bohernabreena is faster and it is only a short climb up from that side (under 100m.)

I note that Dirk agrees with my distaste for the N81, thanks Dirk.

Yes, I vote no to proposition N81. I much prefer going up over bohernabreena and down through Templeogue.

no chance of an 8am start but definitely committed to getting home by lunchtime if that's any help....

I don't mind where we re going, I have no problem with the N81 or the NAAS road or lunch or anything at all - I prefer to see how it goes when i am on the bike...

I think turn off before the Wicklow Gap in that case. I'm aiming to be back in Dublin around 1pm.

You've also got to factor in going around the lakes, whcih is a lumpy road.

sounds like we might have 2 goups
how about we all set out at 9:30 from Dundrum and we can split at the sally gap cross roads. one set can go on down to laragh and ww gap. other gang go home over bohernabreema.
