I was coming out of my mother while U2 were on stage at Live Aid (about 17.30 in the evening). The nurses kept coming into the room talking about it and the tellies were on all over the hospital. My mam was like STFU and get this baby out of me!

Nuclear tests were being carried out in the Nevada desert which didn't result in the end of the nuclear arms race .

By todays standards , not very exciting .

    " . . . . the company's worst rail accident occurred. On 1st August,
1980 the Friday of the Bank Holiday weekend, the 10.00 hours express
from Dublin to Cork was derailed as it passed through the closed
station of Buttevant, resulting in the deaths of eighteen people. A
notable feature of the accident was the almost total destruction of
some of the carriages in the train, while others were virtually
    unscathed.

"Spenser: For Hire," struggling along with the rest of ABC's Saturday night programs, had its best rating of the season with a 14.2 and a 26 share, and finished 42nd. The show prospered in the absence of NBC's "Hunter," which was pre-empted by "Christmas in Washington."

"Sidekicks" and "Sledge Hammer!" both on ABC, had their best Saturday night ratings of the year, although they were ranked 54th and 546th in the A.C. Nielsen Co. survey released yesterday.

The Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions pulled ABC's "Monday Night Football" into the top 10. The game had a rating of 21.9, more than three points above the season average, and the second-best rating of the year behind the Bears-Green Bay Packers game early in the season.

NBC had the usual four programs atop the ratings: "The Cosby Show," "Family Ties," "Cheers" and "Night Court." ABC's "Moonlighting" was fifth, CBS' "60 Minutes" and ABC's "Growing Pains" were tied for sixth, followed by NBC's "Golden Girls" and two from ABC, "Who's the Boss?" and "Monday Night Football."

    July 4th:

    obviously America gained Independence.

...but on the exact same day and year, nothing apparently! Well I did keep the family tradition alive...my aunt and great aunt are both born on the 4th of July too!

Malia Obama was born on the 4th of July 1998. Imagine having your birthday in the White House on Independence Day?! Almost as if she was meant to be there!

Edit: Oh wait, I did find a few things!

    What does "booring" mean?

I found the lifting of the ban quite interesting. It also lead to the end of ridiculous voice-overs. Well, apart from Radion ads.

My birthday is actually now! I think the most significant events of the day was that Karate Kid Part III was released in the cinema and Charlie Haughey announced he was resigning from the office of the Taoiseach.
