Have you ever lived with people that you found annoying, or did they ever do something anoying. I had 2 flatmates last year, knackers, that where messy *****. They paid 315 each a month to stay in the flat but they only came to my flat to get a shower, so i got this huge flat to myself for the whole year. only had to pay my share. and they paid 315 each for not even living in it. they think their smart too. Whats youre experiences from living with other people? good or bad?

When I was in college I needed someone to share my apartment with and eventually took in a Chinese dude called Jiao. On the 3rd night after he moved in he was brushing his teeth or some **** in the bathroom and I heard a thud.

I passed no remarks at first and then heard a glass break so I ran into the bog only to find Jiao having some sort of seizure on the floor.

I was somewhat drunk at the time and remember asking him if he wanted a glass of water as his mouth was foaming and he seemed in some distress.

Eventually I called an ambulance and it turned out to be epilepsy

He's a sysadmin in Shanghai now, and I'm posting his biography on a forum :o

i almost ended up in private residents tenancies court with my landlord.
one of my "flatmates" was having personal problems and decided to say to the landlord that i was messy and stealing food etc. of course the landlord just decided to believe her. i laughed when i read the letter of termination of contract... i was being a nuisance...ha ha...
i went stright to citizens advice and explained the case. they thought the landlord was definately at fault.. i was i suppose bullied by both the landlord and tenant. both of which i managed to show up...i remember ringing up my landlord and listing out all the regulations she was in breech of...silence.....i enjoyed that
the agency got through to landlord after much debate and tenant also moved out
i later moved out...because she didnt fix heating
she should be named and shamed

Once i stayed over a friends place. I woke up at 8.30 still drunk and had to leave at 10 but didn't want to wake my firend. Looked for a good dvd to watch and found some porn. At 10 I put it in his dvd player, paused it at the worst/best possible moment and left.

He was awoken at 12 by some guy who had come to fix his dish washer.
He showed the guy into the kitchen/sitting room and.....

...well you can guess the rest :pac:.

TBH they sound like GREAT flatmates?

Not a horror story by any means, but an illustration of how annoying my flat mate is: she cleaned the bathroom the other day. You know the glass in which you keep the toothbrush/toothpaste? She removed mine from the glass and left them on the little shelf thing. OK, she owns the glass, but really? How petty.

  • Yep living with a terrible one right now. The only nice thing I can say is she isn't noisy, so I always get a good night's sleep. Other than that she's a nutcase. She seems to project all of her problems onto me - she's really dirty and messy and the place is a pig sty, yet she acts like it's my mess and asks me to clean up. She gives out if I leave a cup next to the sink in the morning, yet has left her dirty pots in the kitchen for 2 weeks (so I can't cook anything). She's had loads of free time, she was home before 7 the other night, yet couldn't find 10 minutes to wash her dishes. She frequently locks me out by leaving her keys in the door so I have to bang on the door at 4am after a night out - ffs it's like living with an elderly aunt or something! I'M PAYING to live there yet she treats me like an unwanted guest. Nightmare. Leaving soon and thank God.

And you don't return the compliment by saying anything to her? Is she a bodybuilder or some kind of ninja/wizard/daughter of a ninja or a wizard?

How messy could they have been if they were never there and only came home to have a shower?

I had a few flatmates over the years like that, they were either from the country and went home the weekends or they were staying at the girlfriend's most of the time. No bother there, really. It was great having the place to yourself at the weekends!

My worst one were three czechs (a couple and the girl's brother). They just took over the place to such an extent that I wasn't even comfortable being in the same room as them. To cut a long story short, it was clear within three months that the dynamic wasn't working and they were asked to leave.
They'd have been better off in their own place, not sharing with strangers.

I#ve lost count of the amount of people I've house-shared with! Last year, I just had enough of it and moved into a one-bed apt, happy days :)

Yeah - it's not like it's possible to NOT leave your keys in the door as if you were the only person living there. I guess I should never go out past my 'bedtime' in case I can't get back in.

Had a flatmate who was in to S+M. Girlfriend was getting a check-up and the surgery reported the wounds to the Guards. Skip to 7 am Saturday Morning I am leaving the house to be surrounded by 4 of Kildares finest. After explaining I was not the guy the seargent explained " We have pictures of X's arse down at the station and its not a pretty sight". They took away a load of weird stuff and equipment( a frame shaped like an X). Dont know the outcome as I moved before he was released.

Are you my flatmate? If so, just stop leaving your keys in the door, and I'll be able to get in on my own. Into my own home, that I pay a lot of rent to live in. Thought you'd have figured that out after the first three times, but some people are slower than others I guess.

What's she supposed to do, sit in the doorway until morning? Her flatmate is locking her out! Are you suggesting a curfew or what?

If someone woke me up at 4am stumbling in from a night out they wouldn't be my flatmate for much longer!

Bit of respect and common courtesy goes a long way.

Yes, but if she didn't leave her keys in the door for no good reason there's be no need to wake anyone up... Once could be a mistake, several times is just baffling

Guy we lived with came home drunk one weekend, went about making oven chips. Fell asleep, woke up, went to bed.

We woke up the next morning and the place was covered in smoke. He'd left the chips cooking all night.

We could have died, doesn't really get much worse than that.

Usual small minded Ireland. Bet none of it was remotely illegal.

Had a housemate once who objected to me and one of the girls in the house sleeping together, on the grounds that she had a boyfriend... Thing is that we weren't sleeping together.

We rectified that problem though... :pac::pac::pac::pac:

When I was a student there were five of us in a big house in Newcastle.

Four of use were pretty sensible mature students, one wasn't.

The one that wasn't was a spoilt little rich kid. Her dad had made a fortune selling time shares or something like that back in the 80s and the family wanted for nothing. Her dad wore chunky gold chains, a Rolex and a sheepskin coat.

The odd thing as that she wasn't actually a student, she had decided to give the student life a try before deciding if university was for her.

The problems with her were many. She refused point blank to do dishes, it wasn't a case of her just leaving them in the sink, she actually said "I'm sorry, I don't do dishes". She expected everyone else to do them for her, she would buy beer and leave it in the fridge for us as payment. She would explode when we ignored her instructions. "I've offered you beer, what more do you want?" She constantly bought fresh glasses and crockery to replace her dirty ones.

She took up two rooms, her own and an empty room that she wasn't paying for. When the landlord found out and had words with her, she exploded and then wortte him cheque.

When paying for her share of the bills she would throw bank notes screwed up in balls at us.

She actually said the following -
    - "Please don't touch me, my skin is very special". (she generally had issues with what she seen as unclean people bieing near her)
    - "My dad has high hopes for me and god help anyone who interferes"
    - The only card I would use is Amex, Barclaycard is for people who work"
    - I need you all out of the house this weekend as my parents are visitng" (we stayed and acted deliberately intimidating)

She took my TV and ONdigital box (remember them?) from my bedroom and in to hers and bought me a slab of beer thinking that would placate me. (the doors had locks, but could be pushed open easily). She was loaded, why didn't sher buy her own?

This all came to a head one day as her dity dish pile got out of hand. It had got to several feet tall and wide and we were getting a little concerned about hygene and the like. So we left a post-it on the pile asking her nicely to deal with the dishes. I have never seen anyone explode like that before. She was kicking us and spitting at us and using swear words I didn't know existed. She then called the police in claiming we had assualted her. The assault beuing the note we left "it hurt my feelings and thats assault" she said tery eyed. Obviously the policeman told her that she needed to get her prioroties in order before leaving.

I had to endure 9 months of allt hat prima-donna behaviour, it was hell.

What part did you not understand and it has been spelled out to you .

If someone leaves the keys in the inside lock in the door you can not open it from the outside.

I would be banging down the door until I got in .

Oh my God, there's MORE THAN ONE person who thinks like this. It's been spelled out to you that she is the one locking me out, forcing me to bang on the door, yet all you see is that I'm waking her up at 4am. Can you explain why you think I'm in the wrong here, because it baffles me. Every time the flatmate acts put out and expects me to thank her for opening the door - if I locked my flatmate out, I'd be apologising profusely for my stupidity and lack of consideration!

I had an Italian flat-mate once. He was ok, apart from one bizarre incident. One night, at about 2am, I got up to go to the jacks. When I opened the bathroom door, he was standing in the middle of the floor with his pants around his ankles, schlong out. His girlfriend was there too, kneeling down in front of him, examining his flaccid lad - it looked as though a medical examination was taking place. They both looked up, startled, and I said something stupid like "oh! sorry", and beat a hasty retreat. Neither of us mentioned the incident afterwards, and he moved out two weeks later (for unrelated reasons; he had planned to move before the above took place).

Definitely not the worst flat-mate ever; I've had far worse. But why couldn't they have used their bedroom to do whatever the hell is was they were doing? Or at least locked the bathroom door?

Jaysis, you meet when some absolute nutjobs when you rent! I worked in a town in the west where I knew noone for a seven month contract. I moved in with a woman as a lodger. She was a good bit older than me, and was single and obsessed with finding a man. To the point of desperation, it was a bit scaryn I remember once the binman passed by the window with the bins and she was all like "OMG! Did you see him, he was totally checking me out! Should I go out and say something?" Literally, the man had just walked past and was probably looking at his reflection more than herself.

I left for the weekend once and (I didn't have a lock on my bedroom or bathroom) when I came back on Sunday night, it was obvious that someone was after staying in my room and sleeping in my bed. When I went into my bathroom, there was vomit everywhere!!

She was a good 15 years older than me and so immature.
