clasic , how far did the dog fly?

About 30 feet. I should say I actually like dogs. I have a German shepherd myself. I just don't like being constantly attacked. The most galling thing was the fact I ran into Milly and owner head on. The canal is long and straight. She would have seen me coming and would have had plenty of time to put his lead on. I could understand if I startled the dog/owner by running up on them from behind.

not a nice experience ( the bite part that is , i am sure their was some satisfaction in the throwing the dog in the canal )for you but i sure it would have been hilarious to see :D

LMAO - Well done. Bloody thing deserved it. You should have flung the owner in after him

Milly is walked along a public walk way on the Royal canal and should, by right, be on a lead. I have pointed this out to the auld bitch who owns milly.

Was it before or after the dog went splash that you pointed this out?! :D:D

Brilliant move... can't stop laughing at the thought of it... I think Milly/owner might try to avoid the canal for a bit too!

In hindsight it was the owner I was most pissed at. In fairness dogs generally follow the lead of their owners

I'm not too sure I was so fired up everything is a blur. I have pointed it out to her (very politely I may add) in the past though.

Just keep eyes peeled for who is walking the dog next time in case her son is a tree logger and ex romanian olympic shot putter or something and decides to accompany his ma' n milly on a canal bank stroll ;)

She might also replace Milly with a rottweiler.....that puts the canal out of bounds completely.

Nice run today to flush lactic from legs. Had to wear matching Lidl running gear I bought yesterday as I forgot to bring clean stuff from home into work with me. I looked great :D

Took yesterday off. Plan on taking roughly 1 day (and sometimes 2) off per week for the next 6 weeks. I think it's a good idea as it allows the body to rest some of the little stress and strains that have caused me problems recently. I'll have to introduce some sort of activity or cross training though as I feel very sluggish the day off after a complete rest. On the plus side it is definitely helping me physically.

Ran a preplanned route from the house today. I had the GPS watch with me but purposely messed with the screen so I couldn't see pace or splits per mile just the total mileage. I also didn't wear the heart rate monitor, just wanted to run by feel. When I finished I was happily surprised to see I was just under 7 minutes per mile. It felt like 8 minute plus miles. I'm kind of raging I didn't wear the heart rate monitor now, it probably wasn't as easy as it felt and the HRM could have given a good indication.

Proper marathon schedule starts next week but before then I'm going to race the adidas 5 miler. I'm kind of dreading this as I am not as fit as I hoped I would be but more importantly I'm carrying too much blubber. The fitness and blubber issues will be rectified in the coming weeks hopefully. I was actually thinking of not doing the race but I need to do this to help me focus on my training.

My weight is shocking though. I'm 13 pounds heavier than what I was at the end of April ! It's not rocket science though. I am consuming too many calories (and not getting enough miles/sessions in). Furthermore, I'm eating way too much junk. Tomorrow is the start of a mini diet. Diet is the wrong word to call it as I will be still eating enough to feed a small village I will just start to cut out unnecessary foods. I'm hoping to reduce my caloric intake by 500 calories per day and for me that roughly equates to a pound a week in weight. Cutting out 500 calories is very easy for me. Take away my 2 after dinner biscuits, my extra bowl of cereal in the morning and mid afternoon scone and I'm home and dry. At the moment I'm carrying 2 medium size babies (or a Christmas turkey:)) on my back compared to the end of April

Ran some fartlek today, mostly on grass. Had company again and we were zipping along nicely. Felt great to be moving at pace. I'm nearly looking forward to Saturdays race now. That will inevitably change by Friday :)

Arranged to meet Shels at lunch time today. Plan was to run 2.5 miles to park, run 5 mile loop in park then run 2.5 miles back home. Ran down but didn't feel great so ran 6 miles on grass and got a lift back. Garmin battery was dead so don't have stats for distance/pace etc. Going to take it handy tomorrow and have a physio session planned late tomorrow night

Did an easy 6 miles on grass. It was pissing rain but I really enjoyed it.

Shins have been a bit tight lately so visited physio again. It was torture but he managed to massage the knots out thankfully.

We discussed possible reasons for the pains in my shins and he reckons orthotics would probably be wasted on me. He suggested that my pelvic alignment could be responsible for the pains in my shin. Funnily enough my right hip flexor has been very tight lately so when I mentioned this he worked on that for a little. My right hip was ridiculously tight but is nice and loose now. More importantly I have some stretches that will help keep it loose. It's all well and good getting physio on the problem spot but it's great to be able to potentially locate the problem.

Today is a rest day. I'm going to race the 5 miles tomorrow. Not expecting very much so anything under 29 minutes would be acceptable. I'm debating whether to wear my racers or not. I don't want to cause any unnecessary damage to my lower leg.

I plan to take Sunday very easy or take it off completely depending how the legs feel.

Missed the 5 mile race on Saturday. Something popped up Friday evening. I ran Saturday afternoon and planned a 4 mile tempo run but had to call it off 3 miles in as I was running myself into the ground. Took Sunday off as an additional rest day and feel the benefit of it. New regime started this week. Easy run Monday and a lively fartlek today. 8-10 miles planned for tomorrow, starting to really enjoy my running again. Looking forward to the training now

End of week was a bit hectic so was just glad to get out running. Missed a session but all things considered I did well to fit some running in so no complaints.

Long run today was great, ran first 6 miles slowly with a couple of lads from the club and the the last 10 on my own in around 70 minutes. Felt easy except I have some tightness in the hip again so need to keep an eye on that. Happy to get my first 50+ mile week completed in a long time.

Don't know what the plan of action is for next week yet, should find out later.

Did 6 handy miles today, plan was to keep HR below 140. I averaged 140 on the button. Ran on the canal and may avoid so in the future as it is becoming difficult under foot in certain places leading to elevated HRs and a risk of potential sprains etc.

I also received my new kinsei and Kayano runners in the post today so will start wearing them for now on. My old trainers owe me nothing at this stage.

I have a 40 minute tempo run tomorrow. I tried to get specifics on pace/HR etc but have been told to run it just below 10 mile race pace. Not too sure what that is at the moment  so will have to run at perceived keeping an eye on my HR. I have a very handy 10-12 miles penciled in for Wednesday so might try to make it into the Phoenix park for that.

Today I was down for a 40 minute steady run. Didn't sleep well last night and I felt like **** today. To top it all off I didn't get out at my normal lunch time so had nobody to run (even warm up) with. After 5 minutes I felt like packing in but I managed to push on through and overall I'm jut happy to have done what was prescribed albeit probably not at the desired pace.

I ran the first 20 minutes at 6.26 pace and the second 3 at 6.13 pace. The second 20 minutes were into the wind so I definitely improved as the run went on.

I really to get some plasters for my nipples I'm getting really bad nipple rub and the plasters I currently use as about as much use as a lolly pop that tastes of dick. Because of the nipple problem I'm not wearing my HRM. Today would have been a perfect day for the HRM, at least it would have given me an indication of the quality of the 40 minute run.

Haven't gone near a scales in a couple of weeks. Will give it another few weeks before I do.

Did my long recovery run on the road today. Would rather have ran on grass but time and location didn't suit. Average pace was 7.16, I find I run roughly 10-20 seconds a mile quicker on the road versus grass with the same amount of effort. That was definitely the case today as I was expecting 7.30+ average per mile.

Headed away for the weekend. Did a handy few miles Friday before the drive. Got out unexpectedly on Saturday but it was little more than a handy jog. Ran a great 16 miles on Sunday along a superb beach felt really good. Took Monday off as was wrecked after the log drive back. Did a 6 mile fartlek today and it was very tough. I probably had too many late nights , pints and nice dinners over the weekend but it was very enjoyable.

Was down for 12 miles yesterday but after 9 I was heading back into the club house, luckily enough two of my club mates were heading out so I turned around and ran an extra 3 miles with them. Really enjoyed this run.
