Kevin Levrone back in the gym after 4 years

This is just a transformation blog/vlog that's been running for the past two weeks or so. For anyone who doesn't know, Levrone is one of the most accomplished bodybuilders of all time. He's been out of the sport, and apparently hasn't trained with weights for four years now. He's considered by many to be the most genetically gifted guy out there, in the past he'd take 8-9 months of the year off from training, and then put on 40+ lbs in the 12-16 weeks leading up to a show.
He's now documenting his transformation from 206lbs up to 245lbs, and is doing it naturally. It could be interesting to see.
I know that many people will hop on the "he's just back on roids" bandwagon, but remember, this guy is a genetic anomaly. He apparently turned pro while still natural, which I'd be inclined to believe as he made some serious size gains quite suddenly upon turning pro .
His first day back in the gym he's benching 315lbs to gauge where his strength's at, I'd say give it another 3 weeks and that'll be 405lbs....

Some coincidence, i had to get an early bus this morning, and the books i'm reading at the mo re a little too heavy for 8 in the morning, so i picked up Muscle by Jon Hotten to have a quick re-read thru, was looking at some photos in it thinking that Levone had some brilliant lines if he'd just got the breaks when he needed and actually put in more than a weeks lifting a year!

I hear Ruhl is back in contest prep for the last while too

Yeah Ruhl did the NY pro just a few weeks ago and placed 3rd I think, might have been second can't remember. He looked good, definitely some oil-related stuff going on all over the place but good nonetheless.

The blog is very impressive, I don't think many other bodybuilders would let people into their lives/training as much as that, and show pictures that aren't his best (although obviously a lot of us would be pretty happy to be the size he is right now). I guess a lot of it is just about free publicity, but still, its interesting to see.

Look at the difference hes made in 3 weeks, alot of it is muscle memory, have you any idea how big this dude was!

And he had the best of coaching, nutritional advice and aaaam "Gurus" going

I know who he is. But, I don't care if he is super man, theres no way in hell he puts that on in 12 weeks
    Thats impossible.

Kevin Levrone is THE biggest freak ever in bodybuilding. Even the freaks think he's the freakiest. His genetic ability to put on staggering amounts of muscle in a short space of time is completely beyond comprehension. The fact he walked around at 260+ for many years, and is now down around what, 200?, would lead me to believe that he'll regain a sh!t ton of muscle in a short space of time without steroids (and even if he is using, so what, it's still an incredible transformation).

What part of the guy is a genetic freak is so difficult to comprehend. I think we're all in agreement that a normal person couldn't do it but this guy is far from being normal!

40 pounds in 12 weeks, bollocks.
So we have 84 days. He puts on 1 pound of muscle mass every 2 days. You do realise how absurd that is.

 Almost as "bollocks" or "absurd" as someone considering themselves "strong enough", but you didn't see people giving out about that did you?

How he never won an Olympia is beyond me. He was unfortunate to be competing at the same time as the two most dominant bodybuilders ever!!

I'm glad you all think you can add 1 pound of muscle every 2 days.
Could you please post that in the biology forums, those poor fellas could do with a good laugh. lol
Thats 1 kg of muscle in just 4 days lol.

I was reading a little bit on a thread in a different forum about him while searching for pics/vid for this thread, and thought he'd be a lightbulb or have no back, but he's definitely got great legs and the size of his back! incredible.

Now you know why not everyone gets to the level he was at. Lifting will only get you so far but when your genetics are like his, you'll go far. Is that too hard to understand?????????????????????????????????

You can see a massive difference from day 0 to day 14.

Could you please shut up? You've displayed your ignorance again and again on this forum. You compared a block of cheese to a frickin Mars energy drink just the other day. You wanted to know why people need large quantities of protein while dieting... You've NO idea about bodybuilding, or anything related to gaining muscle, so what you think is irrelevant. Kevin Levrone's probably lost more muscle in one off season than you carry. I'd be pretty happy to take his word and claims over yours.

    Uuuurrrgh.

Well for starters the guy hasn't done a tap in 4 years, is now past his best and claims to be clean and he has gone from this:

    0211.jpg?w=300&h=225

    to this:

    033_33.jpg?w=300&h=225

    in two weeks.

No one is saying the first time Levrone picked up a barbell he added 40lb in 12 weeks.

The guy was unconventional in how he structured his season to say the least. He just took most of the year off to play music and live the life then hit the gym and the juice and stacked it all back on. That's the key he put 40lb back on in 12 weeks.

I wouldn't dismiss the ability of top level bodybuilders to add muscle using a few months of starting strength as your guide.

250g of muscle a day, its doable, theoretically. If you have prime anabolic conditions, in this case, jam packed with anabolic steroids on top of an almost perfect genetic basis for muscle gain, combined with crazy calories and protein intake, it might be possible. Particularly if someones epigenetic state was such that their body has been at such a large size before and they are training with insane intensity.

Again, 250g of muscle weight also consists of a fair bit of water, doubly so if androgenic steroids are used, which they'd have to be to put on that much mass so quick. So in terms of protein synthesis you're talking less than 100g a day.

Massively unlikely as it sounds, in these ideal conditions, I think it could happen.

I agree, and I think that he could cash in on this if he wanted, there's plenty of supplement companies that would love to attach themselves to this transformation, but he's keeping it "for the fans".

"I'm doing this steroid free. I'm coming from a low weight and I haven't trained with free weights in over four years. The muscle memory and the fact that I'll be ramping up my calories from 1,500 a day to 3,000 a day is why I believe I'll be able to do 5lbs a week. I'm going to do this safely and I'll be telling you what I'm eating and what supplements I take, if any.

    Kevin"

    That's how it's possible apparently

He's eating 3000 calories a day and using no steroids.
If he weighs 200 pounds, then, he will need roughly 400 grams of protein per day.
How efficient do you think this man is at using that protein?
    400grams * 4 is 1600calories
    Whats his maintenance calories? 2000?
How much energy does it actually takes to BUILD 1lb of muscle?
    How much is entropy?

I'm sorry but your all wrong, none of it makes any sense !

I'm sorry but your all wrong.

Can you stop repeating the same thing over and over. Nobody said he was going to do those gains on his current diet, only that he did it once. Also, nobody said it was all muscle. If you have some evidence to the contrary, please bring it to the thread, but do so in a way that doesn't say "40lb's in 12 weeks, impossible" please.
