What sort of controls (if any) do they have in place to stop an eliminated player rebuying in on day 1D?

(Given most Americans don't have a passport for ID, I'd have thought that 'rebuys' wouldn't be that unusual)

You need ID (passport. drivers licence) and a Harrahs players card to register for any event.

So basically a passport in the name James Murphy and a driving license in the name Seamus O'Muireachtaigh (or whatever it is) and you are home free. I'm assuming the Harrahs Players Card is a given if the passport and driving license are good.

I'm guessing (maybe wrongly) that it wouldn't be something that Harrahs would have a big team of security experts working on anyway, every extra $10K in the pool is probably welcomed by players and organisers alike.

You need ID to get a players card, so if they accept a big clunky Irish Drivers licence, which I would not be so sure of, then I'm sure you can get a second players card and do just that. I don't think there are any reasons why you can't at least, other than the reasons why you shouldn't.

Ask James Smyth http://www.pokerpages.com/players/profiles/121089/james-smyth.htm or Marty Smyth http://www.pokerpages.com/players/profiles/91944/martin-smyth.htm :D

I think the uproar of a player appearing at a table on day 2 with the person who knocked him out on day 1 maybe a deterrent in itself

Although a phil laak disguise might work ok ...

    http://betting.betfair.com/canada/poker-canada/let-the-games-beginwsop-260509.html
And every year, there are some new and fascinating items of discussion. One of my personal faves for the 2009 WSOP is the introduction of Rule 44. Or, as we like to call it, The Phil Laak rule (truth be told, in a recent conversation with WSOP Communications Director Seth Palansky, it was confirmed that THEY call it 'The Phil Laak Rule' themselves).

Rule 44 states: 'Players may not cover or conceal their facial identity. Tournament officials must be able to distinguish the identity of each player at all times and may instruct players to remove any material that inhibits their identification or is a distraction to other players or tournament officials. Players may wear sunglasses and sweat shirts with hoods, but may be asked to remove them if they cannot be identified by tournament officials'.

Phil Laak, last year in the Main Event, showed up for Day 1 in an old man disguise. No one knew it was Laak until late into the day. Hence, rule 44. The idea of dressing up for the WSOP isn't a new one, with everything from wacky hair-dos to clown suits making appearances for the cameras. It's one of the many quirks that makes the Main Event such a remarkable spectacle. In protest of Rule 44 (the Phil Laak Rule), I believe I may play Day 1 of the Main Event in a Phil Laak disguise.

Load of bull**** imo, Ivey shouldnt have any say in this.

According to one member of the ESPN camera crew, Phil Ivey's table (table #90 in the orange section) was supposed to be the feature table to start the day. Everyone at the table was not only going to get a chance to play at the feature table with one of the greatest players in the game, but they'd also be lined up to receive about $10,000 in sponsorship money from various companies. Ivey didn't want to be seated at the feature table and he got his wish. Everyone at the table was pretty irritated at this decision. This was all according to the camera crew and we'll have to wait and see if any of the players go after Ivey a little bit more throughout the day.

I made it through to day 2, absoulety horrible stuff for the last 7 hours of play. I had the softest starting table ever and left it with 62k. I then get moved to a new table and I have Elky 2 places to my left and to be honest I was scared ****less of him the whole day, he just didnt seem to make a mistake the whole time at the table and chipped his way up to 120k by opening every other pot and not getting involved in any big hands. Pretty class act, and of course my dumb self tried to bluff him with 3 barrells. Hand went like this:

I'm at the table about 45mins or so and havn't had to show down a hand yet, I've got about 60k and Elky covers, so loose enough player who is starting to get a bit drunk limps in in MP, I isolate him with A7o OTB to 1100 with the blinds at 150/300, elky calls from the BB, which he has been defending quite a lot too, MP also calls. So flop comes KK9 rainbow and both players check, I bet 1700 and elky calls and MP folds. Turn is a 6c which puts 2 clubs on board. Elky checks again. I bet 3.5k and he calls again. River is a blank and I fire the third barrell for 7.5k I think. He thinks for 1-2mins and calls with AcQc. So after this hand I am in bits and quite annoyed, don't play a hand for ages because I am so card dead and also a bit tilty.

My stack dwindles down to about 33k or so and I get it back up to 52k again before the last break. After we come back, I make a bad call in a 15k pot and lose more momtemum, I play maybe 3 more hands after this were I cbet and am raised or I call and don't hit the flop and give up. Table was very very aggressive with there always been a raise and plenty of 3betting also with a few shortstacks who were shoving over raises and stuff. So after the blinds go through me a few times and just missing flops I finish the day on 22,175 chips. Was just glad to make the 2nd day tbh and get a new table draw. That table was easily the toughest tournament table I ever had to play on and was just delighted to get away from it with some chips. Easily the most frustrating day I've had in poker for a while. Also its pretty true that when you can't spot the fish at the table then you are the fish!!

Will be great to have tomorrow off now and I can relax and hopefully the jetlag will have left me by the time Wednesday comes around.

ugh, ul - I hate having a strong player like that at the table. I always tend to compare/contrast how I am playing against that player which inevitably leads to tilt/frustration. gl day 2

Whats your opinion on the payout structure?
I remember think last year that the people who finish around 70th-90th (Hawkeye) could feel a bit hard done by, and it seems to be the same payout structure this year.
I think they could take $1.5M from first, .5M from 2nd, .3M from third, and distribute that extra $1.8M from 36th to around 150th.
