    and its over

David Bach Wins $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. World Championship ($1,276,802)

On the stroke of 10 a.m, after an enormous 20-hour final table, 492 hands and 7-hour heads-up battle, David Bach has emerged victorious over a valiant John Hanson to win the Chip Reese Memorial trophy and $1,276,802 in prize money. Bach overcame 94 of the world's greatest all-around poker players to remain the last man standing, and earn the respect of his peers and the adoration of his friends and family. It was a bizarre final table that was subdued for the most part, but in the end Bach was a deserved victor and the unique and intense contest made you feel like you were, in the end, part of something special. Thanks to the railbirds for keeping us somewhat sane and please stay tuned to PokerNews for our continued coverage of the 40th annual World Series of Poker. Until next time...our pillow is long calling! Good night...err morning from the Rio!

Was playing 2-5 in the Venetian last night with a guy who had 10% of David. One of Bach's backers. Illiteration ftw. I'd say he's happy this morning.

Maybe I'm not looking properly, but I can't find any list here of Boardsies or other Irish players in the ME... does one exist? I mean, the ME did start yesterday, correct?

Just had a quick look through the day 1a chip counts, and the Irish I spotted are:

    Andy black-56k
    Jude Ainsworth-50k
    John Magill-45k
    Roy Brindley-45k
    Nicky power-33k
    Albert kenny-28k
    Derek Murray-15k
    Paul leckey-9k

I just had a quick glance, so probably missed a few. I didnt go back double checking so chip counts are from memory and very much approx.

    Connie

PS: After reading nickys post, add these :

    Big Mick-75k
    Thomas Finneran-30k
    Smoothcall-33k
    Reesy-60k
    Padraigh parkinson-23k

Thanks Connie. There just doesn't seem to be the attention and hype over the ME we had here in other years, although it is only Day 1, I suppose. Maybe I'm just getting old and cynical anyway...

Its sick that one day of poker can produce so many coolers!

On a board of {J-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {8-Spades} {7-Spades} {J-Spades}, a player bet 1,500 into Radek Stockner. Stockner made a large raise to 6,250 and his opponent reraised to 12,000. Stockner moved all in and his opponent immediately called for his last 25,000.

    Opponent: {A-Spades} {J-Clubs}
    Stockner: {9-Spades} {10-Spades}

That's right - the river brought the ultimate action card, giving Stockner a straight flush and his opponent quad jacks.

Radek Stockner eliminates his opponent and takes the large pot with his straight flush, moving up to 67,500.

We caught this hand as the chips were being counted on the river.

Patrik Danzer held {8-Hearts}{9-Hearts} on a board of {5-Spades}{7-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{J-Hearts}. Unfortunately for him, that wasn't good enough to win as his opponent, Christian Jeppsson held {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} for the royal.

Danzer still has his starting stack of 30,000 while Jeppsson has 50,000.

A player on the button opened the pot with a raise to 900, and Troy Gibson made the call from the big blind. The flop rolled out {K-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} and Gibson checked. His opponent made a continuation bet of 1,100 and he called.

The turn card was the {K-Clubs} to pair the board. Gibson checked again, this time calling a bet of 1,200. The river card came the {4-Hearts}, and it didn't really look like an exciting card, but it sure brought the action. Gibson checked again, and this time his opponent made a real bet, flicking out 6,000 chips. Gibson paused for a moment before moving all in with the covering stack. The other player instantly called, turning over {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts} for the top full house. But it was no good. Gibson tabled {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} for the stone-cold four-of-a-kind kings.

The table all stood from their chairs, some with their hands over their mouths and faces, and some passing along the story to adjacent tables. Brad Garrett was clutching his chest. "My heart was beating," he said, "and I wasn't even in the hand!"

Paul didn't play yesterday, he's playing tomorrow (1c) or Monday.

Well done to all the Irish lads who played yesterday. No reported casualties.

Other Irish I know of still to play:
    Gary Clarke (1B - today)
    Me (1C)
    John "dagunman" O'Shea (1C)
    Peter Murphy (1C)
    Francis McCormack (1D)
    Pauric "Digiman" McBrearty (1D)

Looks like this year's numbers will be down on last year

Catching the action on the turn with the board reading {A-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, the action was checked to Gary Clarke who fired 8,000. His opponent in the small blind made the call and the {7-Diamonds} on the river was checked down.

Clarke tabled {4-Spades}{4-Clubs} for a set and the small blind could only sigh, "Nice hand..." and revealed {A-Spades}{6-Clubs}.

Set versus flopped top two pair sees Clarke up to 48,000 chips.

cant access the full counts for 1b, but from what I see:

    Marty Smyth-55k
    Gary"McLovin"Clarke-40k
    Alan Smurfit-22k

    Connie

Looking again, i see Smurfit lost most of his chips late on, now 2,500.
And unfortunately, looks like Marty was busted in the last hour of play.
And cant see gary clarkes chip count at end of play.

    also, Patrick o Connor--3,500

Two other names get me thinking, Irish?

    Steven Mclaughlin--63,800
Michael Sullivan--55,500 (is that Mike (Mickey Ned) from cork?
