You might get a Tesco store selling it on the Thursday. They sometimes do that for new titles.

It's been leaked on the internet for like 3 weeks -.-

Every 10 year old girl in the world is going to buy this.

If they make as big of a leap with this as they did when going from 1 to 2 it will be a great game. Unfortunately, they milk the expansion side a little too much...Trailers look interesting - a lot of scope.

    🤪

I get stupid over the Sims :D

I never got any of the expansion packs for Sims 2 cos I dunno, they cost so much and they keep rolling them out and it's like g'way Maxis leave us alone...

Sims 3 looks good though, I like the idea of the new personality stuff and the open plan town (I work in a game shop so I'm supposed to know this stuff - not wierd honestly:p)

Don't think we're gonna be selling it early...

Any one got it yet??? Whats it like?

Im in hungary at the moment and its been on sale here a few days already...costs €60, wondering if im better off getting it here or at home?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 217 ✭✭rororoyourboat

€60? That's pretty steep, though I'd imagine it's more expensive here.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭MooseJam

no way pc games are never 60 - probably be 49

I had it delivered this morning. Haven't got chance to play it yet, but it looks brilliant from looking at the manual!

I'm playing it at the moment (don't judge me!!!!), and I'm loving it. There's some bizarre elements to it and some really hilarious elements too. It's a big improvement on the original games.

    ooh whats it like!?!

How does it compare to sims 2?

As far as I know the collectors edition is €50 in Smyths. That includes a free 2GB USB flash drive and some extra content.

As I said, it's a big improvement. Being able to walk anywhere in the town makes it a lot more imersive, and the interactions with your neighbours can be quite funny. There's lots of little things that you notice as you play, like the fact that you can leave your job and go home during the day (handy when you set the kitchen on fire), or being able to hack computers to gain a bit of extra income.

There's a bit of a problem with time though. Time moves more slowly, but it still takes ages to do something. For example, when you get up for work you have a choice between eating or showering as there's no time for both. But so far, that's been the only thing that really annoyed me.

It's 44.99 for the Collector's Edition in GameStop.

I got it yesterday, it think it's great! There are a few things I'm not into (the time being so slow and when they're all asleep even the ultra fast speed is like...bleurgh) but mostly I'm all over it. Especially the sim creator it's fun!

    *nerds out over sims*

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 705 ✭✭✭yurmothrintites

Just been playing it there and it looks great. Gameplay is slow due to the massive town in view but quick graphic changes help that. Customizing is brilliant and so far the only thing that bothers me as well is the time. Especially with sleeping.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,742 ✭✭✭Branoic

Never really played Sims before but picked this up on a whim yesterday. Next time I looked at the clock it was 5am and fully bright, so I went to bed and tried not to wake the missus. Completely addictive.

€60 for Sims 3???? I got it on play.com for €39... still hasn't arrived yet, was hoping it would come yesterday, but at least one more weekend sims 3 free

Can't wait to play it, heard that time doesn't suspend for other characters when you are playing with just the one character. Was always annoying when your Sim grew up but all their other friends stayed the same age unless you played them. On another note, just realised I've been playing Sims for almost ten years now! Got hooked while on French exchange in 2000... my OH considers himself a Sims widower :D

It's slightly annoying that you can't really change the town though...in the Sims 2 you had loads of different ones to choose from, and you could built any type of community lot you wanted. Now it's restricted to the types they have set really.

    Also, where's the piano? :(

Whew thought the time thing was just my computer! Hopefully they fix it in the first expansion pack. It's really annoying

Anyone experiencing lots of crashes with this? I don't have any issues with requirements and everything runs very smoothly but I often crash particularly in build mode. Incredibly frustrating

I got home from work and played until 5am as well. Been playing all day today too. Addictive!

Yeah, it's crashing a lot for me. It also keeps telling me I don't have a legitimate copy even though they were happy to accept my serial no on their registration site. I can only assume a patch will be out soon, so hopefully it'll be sorted soon.

Tesco, XtraVision, Smyths & Gamestop sold out in Sligo.

What does a guy have to do to get his Sims 3?

Has anyone else had problems getting a laptop/pc with high enough spec to play it?
I'm raging, I only just bought a laptop & it has all the correct spec except the cpu (its only 2ghz).
The cheapest laptops I can find with 2.4+ ghz is about a grand.
Wouldnt mind but I bought the game on Friday, so annoying having it to hand but not being able to play it!!

Chances are your CPU is fine. It's the graphics chip that will hold you back as I mentioned previously, you'd really want a machine with dedicated graphics like the NVIDIA 9600GT or ATI 3650.

    Sim's 3 was €39.99 in Xtra-vision last night.

I was considering picking it up, but I think I'll definiitely check the specs of this laptop before doing it.

    Hiya Karsini,

I downloaded a programme from the sims 3 website 'can you run it' and it said that the cpu is not fast enough to run the game, though I may be able to exchange the laptop for one with an NVidia games chip so might give that a go :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 705 ✭✭✭yurmothrintites

I think I spent around 10 hours playing it today...seriously addictive. I could have gone on for longer but everyone in he house was complaining about my unsociable, unhealthy habits.

You would be better off with Sims life stories, they are made for laptops in mind

This is easily the best Sims game for me. I used to get bored with my Sims in The Sims 2 as they were all very similar - you just kind of had to pretend they were different. Like if you wanted a Sim to be a right prick you just wouldn't give him any nice points and then always choose the mean interactions. What I love about Sims 3 is the fact that they actually have so much more personality. I have a Sim now who's evil and actually gets wishes for really weird stuff, and he can have an 'evil slumber', whereas my sporty sim likes to take an 'extreme nap'. Heh. With the personality traits you don't have to pretend your Sims are evil or crazy, you can actually set them up to act that way.

I can see myself playing this for some time to come, whereas with The Sims 2 I got bored after Open For Business came out.

Yeah, I created a Satan sim and it's hilarious being evil.

Also, some of the slapstick moments from the others just seem so much funnier in this one. Like I had my Satan try and repair a broken tv. He electrocuted himself and his clothes burnt off and his hair was all frizzy. The tv went on fire, so I had to put that out. I then tried to fix the tv again and electrocuted myself again, this time actually dying because of it. So along comes Death to take me away, and while he's doing that, a fire woman comes along (being automatically called when there's a fire) and because she doesn't see any fire, fines me while my corpse is still twitching in front of her. I love this game!

What are the Sims like for independant thought in this one? Would it actually be possible to leave them to their own devices and will their personality traits take over?

Also, is there as much micro-management. i.e. The constant cycle of food, toilet, wash hands, call someone on the phone (because for some reason you don't talk to anyone at work! Go on boards.sim ffs! :D).

Finally, I know ye said that other people go about their business but will they try to complete their own personal goals? Or could someone you create die without doing anything they wanted because you didn't play with them too much (and again, is there independant thought - e.g. you create a flirty sim...could you see them on dates with different people at different times?).

Or am I getting ahead of myself? (c) Ideas copywritten for Sims 4 or Sims 3 related expansion packs! :)

    🤪

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

When you start a game you can set how independent they get. You cna pretty much leave them be and see what happens. I haven't really done this, so I'm not sure if they just do the minimum needed to survive, or if they try and get to the top of their careers etc. That's something I'll have to look into.

The micromanagement is there, but it's not as annoying as the last games. And as you achieve life goals, you get points to buy special abilities, like the ability to not use the toilet or to not have to clean yourself etc, so you get more time to focus on what you want you sim to be doing.

And again I haven't set Sims off on their own, so I'm not sure how they do. I've seen other sims flirting with each other, but I don't know if they create relationships or anything.

I'm loving this game and all the new features. Also happy that the sims don't have to befriend tons of other sims just to progress in their career - you just mainly meet/talk to whoever you need to during work :pac:

Really like the work/skill challenges also.

    Hi Caprilicious,
Could you please put a link up for this as I have looked on the website and cant seem to find it! :(

I wasn't going to bother with this, because I got bored with the Sims 2 very quickly and it didn't seem like much of an upgrade. But of course all the hype got to me and when I saw the weather this weekend I figured I wouldn't be leaving the house anyway :p

It's pretty fun! I like the fact that the Sims independence has been improved massively, it's pretty entertaining to watch my Evil/Insane sim tormenting other people and cackling to himself, and being happy when other Sims around him are upset. I made a Charistmatic female sim in the hope of experimenting with making babies- the first thing she did was hit on a girl that wasn't interested in being her girlfriend and fall in love with her >.< It actually feels like they have personalities now, the Sims 2 lacked this which is why I got bored so quickly, and if you leave them to their own they can actually take care of themselves well enough, they don't end up going mad surrounded by pee puddles.

Not impressed with the slowness of time passing- apparently this is because of all the stuff that's going on in the neighbourhood at the same time.

My computer's fairly rubbish though and while it runs it okay, I'd like it to be faster and have nicer graphics so I can really tinker with the editing and customisation features. Definitely going to pick up some RAM and maybe a new graphics card at some stage.

Bit disappointed with the lack of objects, but for all I can remember the Sims 2 was probably the same when it was barebones without expansion packs... kinda get the impression Maxis are hoping that people will start buying items from their store :/

It comes with a little mini Prima guide, nothing to write home about really but a good introduction to how Sims games work for those new to the games.

I really think they have put out a fairly polished game, although it does have some of the glithes that The Sims 2 had. Most importantly the game is a lot of fun. If possible I think The Sims 3 could have an even wider appeal than the first two games.
